The hash rate of the RX 460 is reported to be around 11 mega-hashes per second (MHS). With a “peak” wattage consumption of 75 watts, that translates to 0.147 MHS/W. The 470 produces a hash rate of around 25 MHS with a power consumption of around 120 watts for 0.208 MHS/W. Of the two, the 470 offers better efficiency per watt. But the 460 is easier to deploy on low-cost, low-end systems. And the 470 costs a great deal more on secondary markets. More or less, the 470 is running for well over $350 on eBay, whereas you can still get a 460 for around $100.

The model I recommend is the 160-XT. The XT includes a 4-pin CPU connector.
Mining a block is difficult because the SHA-256 hash of a block’s header must be lower than or equal to the target in order for the block to be accepted by the network. This problem can be simplified for explanation purposes: The hash of a block must start with a certain number of zeros. The probability of calculating a hash that starts with many zeros is very low, therefore many attempts must be made. In order to generate a new hash each round, a nonce is incremented. This card generally retails in the $800 range, but mining demand has driven its price to over $1,000 in some locations. If you’re lucky enough to get free power, then this card could be a great choice.

If you are not familiar with Ethereum and cryptocurrency, in general, it is a new form of monetary exchange that is entirely electronic. There is no and will be no hard currency for the cryptocurrency. You may have heard of its meteoric rise this year with Bitcoin starting the year at around $1,000 and is now valued as of Oct 31 at $6,500. That is a growth of 550% in 2017 alone. The Ethereum mining machine performs the blockchain calculations on either the CPU or the GPU, but for the calculations that it is performing, the GPU is much much faster. Due to this, the mining rigs are not anything like your standard computer. Take a look:

As graphic cards can not work by themselfs, the ethereum mining hardware consists of a omputer which has as many graphic cards attached as possible. Great article, wish you would take it a step further and play with tuning the system to see how significant of a change you might be able to dial in. Also, In regards to heat, maybe it makes sense not to mine during the summer cooling months, but run it 7-9 months out of the year were the heat it produced would not be wasted completely? I understand it’s not the most efficient way to heat a house, but, at least your not doubling down on your costs?
Troubleshooting tip:  Some miners have had success installing all GPU’s at once and then installing the drivers.  Others prefer to install only one card, install the drivers, shut down the system and then install the rest of the GPU’s and then just let them all be recognized by Windows (you’ll feel the system lagging, some flickers, or brief black screens while each card is detected by Windows).

The Ethereum network does not assign a value to gas because the market value of ether fluctuates while the difficulty to mine may not. As such, gas is focused on the mining costs. The price or value of ether is tied to external forces on the other hand.
Solo mining might have the best payout of the three methods if you have the financial power to invest in several GPUs and pay mammoth electricity bills. To carry out solo mining successfully, you need to hit at least 100 mega hashes per second and this hash rate will increase as difficulty rises. However, you get all the rewards; they include payment for uncles on top of your earnings.
Here in brazil, the prices are abusive, but the power cost is very low, at least 19 Cents a watt. Total Hashrate of the project, 52MH’s. In the past months, i’ll go for more, buy at least 4x RX480 Custom. Maybe in US, they will cost 230-250US, here, 1400-1700 BRL.
I purchased 6 1070 FTW edition GPUs and they have two 8-pin power connectors each. Do I need to get more powers supplies to accommodate the extra 8-pin slot? Also, should I have connector branch from the power supply to both 8-pin slots or give each slot on the GPU its own connector to the power supply?
Hash Rate – A Hash is the mathematical problem the miner’s computer needs to solve. The Hash Rate is the rate at which these problems are being solved. The more miners that join the Bitcoin network, the higher the network Hash Rate is.
If you plan on using more than 3 GPUs you’ll need PCIe Risers. These will allow you to connect the graphics cards to the motherboard without attaching them directly to the motherboard. Think of these as PCI extension cords to the motherboard.
Sometime in the future (we can’t be certain when), ethereum will likely switch from its proof-of-work consensus algorithm to Casper, a proof-of-stake system its developers are now in the throes of completing.
