Anyone who is familiar with Minecraft is well aware that the game’s general graphics are pixelated and primitive. While this has a touch of simplicity and nostalgia to it, some may find this aesthetic to be rough and stale after awhile. So what does one to do freshen up the graphical experience of Minecraft? Well, Sonic Ether’s Unbelievable Shaders is a great way to reinvent the game’s graphics from bland to breathtaking.

Patrick Cines, a recent college graduate who mined in his dorm room at Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania, was particularly innovative. To regulate his room’s temperature in the August heat without air conditioning, he hacked together a ventilation solution out of Home Depot dryer tubes. “The ones that people usually connect to their dryers in their houses to put out all the heat,” he explains.
While Mark’s encounter with bad actors left him relatively unscathed, Rahul, the Stanford graduate, suffered a much greater loss. In December, 2013, he spent a couple thousand dollars on an ASIC to mine bitcoin. Within the first three months, he mined what was at the time worth $10,000, he (According to CoinDesk, the price of bitcoin during that time averaged around $800.) Confident that the price would rise, he purchased another $10,000 of bitcoin with his own money and placed all of his holdings on Mt. Gox, then the largest and most trusted bitcoin exchange in the world.
Currently, only the Star Wars Collector’s Edition model appears to be available from Nvidia. While these Jedi Order cards certainly look great, cosmetic features add nothing to the mining performance.
Each mining rig works at a different level of efficiency and uses a variable amount of electricity. On the low end, miners typically draw ~100 W at their maximum load, but this can increase up to over 1000 W with more powerful and less efficient miners.
Hi Elmer, unless you are using the six pin connector on a discrete card, it will pull wattage from the PCIe slot — and you will overdraw if you use more than one RX 460. I apologize for not making this clearer.
A Field Programmable Gate Array is an integrated circuit designed to be configured after being built. This enables a mining hardware manufacturer to buy the chips in volume, and then customize them for bitcoin mining before putting them into their own equipment. Because they are customized for mining, they offer performance improvements over CPUs and GPUs. Single-chip FPGAs have been seen operating at around 750 Megahashes/sec, although that’s at the high end. It is of course possible to put more than one chip in a box.
I’d say only as an experiment. The technology behind Ethereum, a big leap over Bitcoin’s underlying technology, may one day prove to be valuable. But cryptocurrency is so ridiculously speculative, it’s only worth taking a moderate risk on. I wouldn’t invest thousands into mining unless you really have thousands to spare, and make sure you’re aware of the risks What You Need to Know Before Investing in Cryptocurrencies What You Need to Know Before Investing in Cryptocurrencies Read More before spending any money.
That’s what I mean though – FPGA + DRAM setups are way more expensive than GPUs in terms of MH/s per $. Scrypt was able to just break-even because the memory could fit on-die and there were time-memory-tradeoffs which are not present in Ethash.
Mining Ethereum at this point requires a 3GB GPU because of the size of the DAG file. DAG stands for Directed Acyclic Graph and is essentially a database of the existing blockchain. In order to mine the next block, your hardware needs to be aware of all the existing blocks. As of this writing, the DAG is just over 2GB, and it only gets bigger with each new step, which happens at least once a week. The vast majority of miners load the entire DAG into VRAM. Without sufficient capacity, the GPU can’t even begin mining operations.
Then again that is not always the top concern. One consideration is if you run a miner in a cold climate, then heat effiency can become the dominating factor. The reason being there is 0 cost to run a miner in a cold climate as it simply replaces the energy you put into a heater and it is as effective as a heater at heating your house. So as long as the amount of heat you produce is not in excess of what you need to keep your house heated, then there are 0$ electrical costs to run it. Once you pass this point then your profit margin diminishes as you will produce more heat than what is needed to heat the house (in other words you will open a window to help cool the house a little). Therefore Hash rate to heat output (equivalent to hash rate to energy consumed) would be more important than the initial price for the hardware.
[ALSO LETS SAY… you bought this and it flops.. so? (but truth is, it doesnt)… but on the other hand if you sell (or don’t buy) you will look back to 2017 when trueAlpha wrote the prophecy of the gods on the misc and cry yourself to sleep every night]

  1. I absolutely ADORE this mod. It’s a huge throwback to the days when I play The Aether mod on Minecraft beta 1.7.3 almost 5 years ago. Unfortunately, there are problems. Problems like lag(Although my PC should be more than capable of running it at 60+ FPS), text repeating mainly after boss fights, background music colliding and text in the book of lore being “squashed”. Some tweaks I’d love mainly include: being able to equip accessories in Creative Mode and the option to choose the old zephyr model and texture just for nostalgia reasons.
The mining demand has driven prices well above their normal retail price. That said, the card achieves a hashrate similar to the GTX 1079 Ti and 1080 models. And it’s a fraction of the price and lower power consumption, at least compared to the 1080. However, you must keep in mind that this older technology will have a lower resale value than these Nvidia models (once it’s no longer suitable for mining).
The difficulty is rapidly doubling, so in a year (2019) your 14 hash rate(Can be as low as 11) on your $1500 non over gouged S9 (or $2500-$3000 gouged) is going in effect has the same as 7 in what’s it worth to you. Increases of 10% a month or so. At btc current prices, and current electrical prices (using avg of .10) , you will cease to pay for electricity in a yrs time taking the complexity of the work it’s doing rising at that rate. Add on top of that the fact it’s a machine, running 24/7,you’ve really… Read more »
Ethereum Mining rig requires certain specifications on the hardware as well as on software side. In order to mine ether, you need to have a computer with Graphics card/GPU or CPU. GPU’s have a higher hash rate, i.e. they are much faster in solving problems and are therefore 200 times faster than CPU. It is wise to use GPU for your mining and there are also mining rigs being done in which hardware containing 6-7 GPU’s together are built to provide faster performance and more power.
