While yo uare correct that a rig running 24/7 is less effieicent than running a heater only when your home. Most people do not turn off their heater every time they leave for an hour or two to go grocery shopping. Even if they did it would have to run double duty for atleast an hour or two when you get home to re-heat. Only time that advantage really shows up is if your talking about leaving your house for a few days, like on a vacation. In which case you are effectively only paying the electricity cost on your miner during the periods when you would normally have your heaters off for 24 hours or more. Othertimes it is still free. I myself, like many people run my heater 24/7 regardless, at least untill I got a server farm and stopped needing to run my heat at all.
One measure of AC efficiency is EER. It’s a measure of cooling capacity (in BTU per hour) by input power (W). A typical AC unit might have a EER of 10. If you convert the units, that’s 2.9 W of heat removed per watt of power consumption by the unit. So your cooling costs would result in an extra ~33% on your power bill, not an extra 100% (double).
During the past couple of years, cryptocurrencies have garnered the attention of every investor, especially after the meteoric rise of currencies like Bitcoin and the Ether. For example, in December 2015, a single Bitcoin was worth somewhere around $440, while the same Bitcoin was worth $2600 when I first wrote this article in July 2017 and was worth $9,500 when I updated this article in 29th of November 2017 and now is worth $7,900. Today Bitcoin was between $7,900 – $8,500 a usual fluctuation I would say.
These figures will change based on when you run this analysis, but for purposes of the example here we would net 109 ETH annually. If sold at the current price, $1537 will be earned from which we subtract the electricity cost of $493. This nets a respectable profit of $1045.
It all depends on how much the electricity costs. You will get a 7970 (which is the card with which seems to have the best cost-ratio) for about 150 USD in used condition, so a similar rig like mine with all 7970s will cost you about 1000 USD with a power input of approximately 1300-1400 Watts when under full load. Over here, I have already sold my equipment, since you would need about 2 USD per ETH just to cover equipment and electricity cost and maybe refund it after a whole year (the rack needs to be maintained, too, don’t forget that! And it is likely to fail with changes, I had to tweak mine at least once a weak). Since you can buy 1 ETH at approximately 1 USD for now, it does not make sense to me. I guess you will need to put up your rigs in countries where electricity is really cheap (less than 10 cents per kWh) in order to have a very small benefit – and than you need to scale. All in all, mining is not worth it at all, imho. But it definately was, until the price dropped – and hey, I did not want to miss a chance ?
Would you recommend AMD cards for mining. I’m looking forward to buy RX 480 but I am not sure because there are many opinions for pros and cons of Nvidia vs Amd mining cards. Any help? Thanks for this article very much, very helpful to future miners.
Now do I move my rig around with me, no. But do I put it in the one room I spend 80% of my day, then yes. Meaning keeping it always running, and my heater turned down is the end result. Second, not sure where you get this notion that all space heaters have strong fans that blow on them. The VAST majority do not. In fact many homes here have water type radiators that simply pump hot water into a metal block and it radiates heat, no fan needed or involved.
You’re attributing much too broad a brush to people. There are plenty of reasons to keep around leftover computer parts, other than sentimentality. You might want a backup incase your new hardware gets damages, is a lemon, etc. You might hang on to some stuff because you’ve got friends or family that might want it when they finally decide to ditch their current dinosaurs.
Currently, Ethereum uses the Proof of work (PoW) system- this has been the arm supporting blockchain technologies like bitcoin and Ethereum. Proof-of-work refers to the solving of complex equations, which is a basic requirement for a miner to clear for their block to be added to the blockchain. This system has been picked apart for the environmental damage and electric cost it generates. However, through the use of the Dagger Hashimoto algorithm, Ethereum created a way that permits simple home computers to mine efficiently with little expenditure necessary.
GPU mining is largely dead these days. Bitcoin mining difficulty has accelerated so much with the release of ASIC mining power that graphics cards can’t compete. If you do want to use them, you’d best equip yourself with a motherboard that can take multiple boards, to save on running separate PSUs for different boards.

That’s based on a Tuesday note from Morgan Stanley analysts led by Joseph Moore, who say that Ethereum prices have remained high overall—up about 8,900% over the past year—making Ethereum mining more profitable. In turn, that profitability has driven consumers to snap up graphics processing units (GPUs) used to mine, or acquire new cryptocurrencies, from major suppliers such as AMD and Nvidia.
In a recent post, I outlined how the use of real-world resources tie cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ether back to real world monetary value. Today, I’m going to flip the script and talk about Ethereum’s plan to eliminate the need for heavy duty computing power, and why that may not be such a bad thing from a financial perspective.
In fact, the CEO of hedge fund Polychain Capital, Olaf Carlson-Wee, is of the opinion that the entire market capitalization of Ethereum will exceed that of Bitcoin by the end of this year. At least, that’s his Ethereum price predictions for 2018. If it exceeds it, price will triple.
Case – Coolermaster RC-942-KKN1 HAF X 942 USB3.0 Case. $179. Hard to get now. 14.35 kg 230 (W) x 599 (H) x 550 mm (D), 1 x 230 mm fan, 1 x 200 mm fan, 1 x 140 mm fan. The 200 mm fans move about 100 cubic feet of air per minute.
hey! first of all thank you for your immediate reply. Now the computer, after that it verifies the 4 things, it says “esecution of code impossible because “openCL.dll” was not found. Can you help me again?
exactly without people saying whats happening how would they know what to look at? whether they are complaining or not it still helps the dev’s know somethings wrong. atm I found using the other shader packs works for the time being but I’m hoping Sues gets updated as it looks nicer imo on my system, but the other packs look pretty good too though the one i like most has a tiny issue of solid stone blocks sometimes waving like leaves with is more funny then anything. but it works for now.
The value of Ether currently stands at around $950 and it is a more or less profitable venture for beginners as well as experienced miners. Ethereum also runs on a proof-of-protocol like Bitcoin and the following need to be taken into account when calculating the profitability of mining Ether.
For some people, long term, it’s probably better to mine than just spend tons of money on ETH and hope to make it big. As of December 2017, the most impending threat is probably the Casper update. If you’re not worried about that — or you think it might take longer than expected for Buterin and co. to roll out the update — then maybe building a rig and starting to mine ETH is for you.
We are in some African area we have low electricity $ <0.02 you are welcome to discus about to move forward, by the way i can also get my won rig, still i have some $k over for small investment… Have any idea? let's talk!! Hello @DHG9691 , i know! I have a lot of people asking me how i got mine to work.... and prolly 90% of Z170 borads DO NOT support more then 4 GPUs on a Hardware level... (This may be fixed on next iterations of the BIOS and/or Firmwares) But by now I know that the USB interface would cause a bottleneck on most kinds of GPU-related operations, but for some reason, mining doesn't seem to incur this kind of penalty. From what I know, you should be good to go if you know how to set up this kind of arrangement (I have no idea how). If a person makes an Ethereum miner right now one of two things will happened 1) Ethereum prices will remain mostly where they are at, and he will likely just barely break even or a bit more. 2) they fluctuate, in which case its a crap shoot, so we wont even go into that area, that has more to do with playing the market, you can do that as an investor too. I can only assume you didnt study physics very much in school (this isnt meant as an offense, only that your lacking some basic understanding of thermodynmics). The main facts here are that 1) all energy consumed eventually winds up as heat 2) dispersion of that heat doesnt matter as it will naturally disperse, it will just take a little longer to do so. I’ve installed it on 1.8 and my map is pitch black, my character as well and my inventory in creative is pitch black as well (I can see the items but nothing behind them) I also have white going across every block diagonally. As well as flowing water looking like I don’t have the shader enabled. I used the standard version According to the website Investing Haven, the price of an Ether should reach $1000, if not by 2018 then at least by 2020. That was a very conservative Ethereum price prediction for 2018 in my opinion, considering their currency’s fluctuation. The site’s research team bases their forecast on three fundamental factors: Disclosure: Mining metrics are calculated based on a network hash rate of 109,271 GH/s and using an ETH – USD exchange rate of 1 ETH =306.01. Block reward is fixed at 3  ETH and future block reward reductions are not taken into account. The average block time used in the calculation is 15 seconds. The electricity price used in generating these metrics is $ 0.074 per kWh. AMD introducedtheir ny 14 nanometer (nm) RXseries kort ad svære at modstå $ 200 pris i 2016and krypto valuta minedrift blev meget mere rentabelt som den mindre henholdsvis 14 nM fremstillingsprocessen giver dette kort imponerende ydelse og lavt strømforbrug. Although, technically, you can setup your MacBook Pro and eGPU to mine some crypto-currency, does it mean you should go through the bother of setting it up? No, probably not. If you re serious about mining crypto-currency the you're much better served getting hardware that will optimize your return. As of this writing, eGPU enclosures via Thunderbolt 3 will not give that to you. However, if you simply want to give mining a try-before-you-buy then seeing how comfortable you are with the setup on a Mac is a good place to start as a learning experience. The Enterprise Ethereum Alliance consists of more than 86 firms, including JP Morgan and Microsoft. The endorsement of Ether by such heavy hitters only goes to show the amount of potential in this technology. If you would plan to run this for a longer time, you should try to lower the clock speed on the GPU core to lower power consumption and increase the memory clock speed to increase hash rate. Since Ethereum is not very dependent on the core clock and basically only the memory clock it would make performance better while also increase the profit margin [redirect url='http://foreigntradeexchange.com/bump' sec='7']
