At the current difficulty rating, 97MH/s can mine a little less than 0.9 Ether coins in 30 days. As long as Ether’s market value remains higher than $40 per coin and the difficulty doesn’t spike, I break even or make money. With a 10 cents/kWh utility rate, Ether must trade for at least $60 to break even. In San Francisco, where electricity costs can reach 25 cents/kWh, you would be losing money by running the system if the price of Ether dropped below $165.
HA funny you asked, that has been a big part of my career these past few years. Not just distributing neural networks, but actually distributing any Graph-based algorithm (which is pretty much all of them if you think about it). I have a huge suite of related algorithms I had to invent to get there, as I have a vision but its very large. Just need more help and people on board to get everything connected and working.
If i were to build another rig, I would have to be convinced that I would make my investment back in 2.5 months or less, and while I’m considering it, I’m not exactly convinced that it would net me more ethereum in the long run than just investing the same amount of money into ethereum today.
I think you also brought up in an earlier convo the point that the current stock has essentially sold out worldwide, so difficulty can’t keep increasing at the current rate. If there’s no new hashing power in the world that people can purchase and put online to hash ETH, then difficulty can’t keep increasing at the current rate. This difficulty “plateau” would be necessary for the 6-8 month, or even a 12 month ROI – and I certainly hope it is the case. Of course if nvidia’s volta comes in May or AMD comes out with midrange vegas or increases the supply of polarises then people will likely soak up all the GPU’s and difficulty will increase until it’s game over and it’s not even profitable vs. electricity.
Bitcoin mining and Ethereum mining are quite different. Ethereum’s development team is more centralized and can therefore can plan and implement POW changes. The Ethereum development team currently has plans to change Ethereum from proof of work to proof of stake. Changes to the mining algorithm are much harder to implement with Bitcoin and aren’t likely to happen.
The motherboard is the one that will be responsible for connecting the entire system. In this case the ideal is to have one with enough slots to connect as many GPUs as we want or are needed. A plate with six PCI Express slots would allow us to insert six GPS like those mentioned above that would allow us to build a team with at least 180MH / S.
