As blocks get added to the chain, new validators then stake additional crypto on new blocks that are added on top of prior blocks. As chains grow, validators are incentivized to validate the chains that have the most crypto staked in their contained transactions, as well as to validate chains that contain crypto staked on previous blocks that they’ve put crypto up against.
You can buy GPUs from two main vendors: ATI and Nvidia. High-end cards can cost hundreds of dollars, but also give you a significant advantage over CPU hashing. For example, an ATI 5970 graphics card can give you over 800 MH/sec compared with a CPU, which will generally give you less than 10 MH/sec.
Mining Ethereum at this point requires a 3GB GPU because of the size of the DAG file. DAG stands for Directed Acyclic Graph and is essentially a database of the existing blockchain. In order to mine the next block, your hardware needs to be aware of all the existing blocks. As of this writing, the DAG is just over 2GB, and it only gets bigger with each new step, which happens at least once a week. The vast majority of miners load the entire DAG into VRAM. Without sufficient capacity, the GPU can’t even begin mining operations.
The Titan Xp can be overclocked to 42 MH/s, it will consume 300 W when pushed that hard. It achieves an excellent hash rate without too much expenditure of power. Meanwhile, its top-end AMD rival, the RX Vega 64, achieves a very similar performance for about half the price.
Well yeah, we are still early in the grand scheme of things. Until I’m showing my friends/family how to use crypto I’m still way ahead of the game. Figured id missed the boat on apple once the i phone came out but in reality the ride was only just beginning.
That’s why miners ‘pool’ together their computational power into ‘mining pools’, to improve their chances of solving the cryptographic puzzles and earning ether. Then, they split the profits proportional to how much power each miner contributed.
It looks even better when you chuck on some of those higher resolution texture packs. 64x64s and 128x128s packs don’t look out of place anymore but look right at home with these shaders on. Big call but I think we may have hit a new age in minecraft. One where minecraft can actually be described as a good looking game. :tongue.gif: Oh and I see what you mean when you mentioned shadows in the sky. Very unsettling having those dark shapes looming over you. haha
PD: The motherboard says if you want to connect more than 3 GPUs you should connect the 2 molex extra power to the MOBO but I have powered risers and as far I know only data go trough the connectors that goes into the MOBO I suppose I don’t need to connect the extra molex. Do anyone have a comment about this confusing recommendation of AsRock?
AS THE bitcoin price continues to fall, sceptics have started to wonder what will happen to the industry underpinning this digital “crypto-currency”. Around the world, hundreds of thousands of specialised computers have been built to create (or “mine”) bitcoins and, in the process, validate transactions and protect the system. How does bitcoin mining work?
When it comes to the functionality of Ether, the technology behind smart contracts is what interests people most. However, as we just saw, the building of new applications on top of the Ethereum blockchain will also drive up demand.
One thing to take into consideration is the heat, in summer time it’s a problem. If you have 2 servers with 6 GPU each (total of 12 GPUs), a 150000BTU is not even enough… You need a system to extract the air outside.
Regardless, I’m going to pick up where Eric left off. With a stack of graphics cards at hand, I am ready to go down the mineshaft. Will this be a fool’s errand, or is there still gold to be found? Let’s find out.
