Ethereum is currently but it is going to switch to Proof of Stake within a few months which will likely eliminate the profitability. Starting with Ethereum and then switching to ETC or another altcoin seems like the current best option!
WeTrust (TRST)- Found only really on Bittrex and a few smaller exchanges, this coin has Vitalik, Bo Shen and the CEO of Open Bazaar on their advisory board with a bunch of brains from google making it work, with their RASCA peer to peer lending product launching shortly.
Another idea is to use my own laptop (toshiba R700), at night, using the same USB extenders but maybe the laptop power is not ready to supply the GPU. What is your opinion on this? In the case that it would be advisable to use laptop, would this interfere with my normal working or would it be advisable to let it work only when I am not using the laptop?
I think is better to install Linux onto this 60GB SSD and then install Ethminer software rather than installing Windows since space is so limited for that SSD ( Windows 7 or 10 may take almost all of the space).. and this also will give me an option to install another mining software for another crypto-currency later on, rather then installing EthOS…just for Ethereum…What do you think about it?
How much hash rate increase do you think you can get by getting a 2nd stick of 2gb ram in there? And is it better for power to use a single 4gb stick or 2 x 2gb sticks? What would be the increase in hash rate with say 8 or 16gb?
However, there’s a caveat here. In some cases, you’ll be using your computer to run the mining hardware. Your computer has its own electricity draw on top of the mining hardware, and you’ll need to factor that into your calculation.
If you are using the RX series cards you’ll need to BIOS mod the memory straps and over clock the memory and set the driver to compute more or else it’ll program very poorly (we’re talking almost double the hashrate in some cases).
Also space heaters are considerably more effecient than central heat (assuming both are electric), and a gpu miner is equally as efficient as a space heater. The reason being with central heat you must heat the whole house and get less control over focusing the heat in the areas used by the house. Even when you close vents a lot of heat tends to leak into unused rooms. With a space heater you can place one in every room and only heat the rooms you care about, or occupy at the time. In that way you use MUCH less heat with a space heater or mining rig than you would with central heat. Even if you want to heat the whole house it will be almost the same since you’d presumably also have your mining rigs spread out throughout the house to heat it effectively, one in each room.

Hi Charles, Sounds like a cool setup, hope you’re having fun with it and making some good money. I think your auto-correct is changing Claymore to Clayton. Anyway, as of Claymore v8.0, you can choose between mining Ethereum alone, Ethereum & Decred, Ethereum & Siacoin, Ethereum & Lbry. Based on something said by an old-time Bitcoiner in a video (I’m no expert on altcoins), I’d say Decred is the best choice. I haven’t heard anything about the other options and don’t know what they do exactly, except for some vague notions about “decentralized storage.” I’m not an expert on Ethereum… Read more »
The Ethereum Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) file is stored in VRAM by miners. The DAG grows in size by remaining proportionate to the mining difficulty. About once every epoch (or 30,000 Ethereum blocks), a new DAG is generated, which must be downloaded in order to continue mining.
Mining Ether takes up a lot of electricity. On the plus side, though, if mining practices are carried out efficiently more income is generated through the sale of Ether. Ethereum mining calculators are available for calculating profits. So, there’s no need to get worked up since you’ll still get a profit at the end.
I had a contract yesterday for ether. Everytime I going into my account bitcoin is allocated as being mined 100%. I have changed this to ethereum 5 times and it keeps saying bitcoin. Is the normal? But, I am still mining ethereum, because I bought an ethereum contract! Thanks for any help
In brief, Bitcoin ASICs are specialized computers used for mining Bitcoins, Bitcoin mining rig or Bitcoin generators as others would choose to refer to them. It is very important to note that there is a major difference between Bitcoin mining hardware and the Bitcoin hardware wallets. The first ones are used to mine Bitcoins, while the latter is used to store this digital currency.
The card should have at least 3 gigs of RAM or it won’t be able to properly mine Ethereum. This is due to the growing DAG file (directed acyclic graph) used in the Ethereum Proof of Work hashing process.

Unfortunately it’s hard to troubleshoot without any error message. Do you ever get problems running graphically intensive applications like games? You could also try downloading a stress testing app for your GPU and seeing how it performs:
Power consumption is another major factor. Some GPUs consume as much as 500 Watts of power while there are others which consume as less as 150 Watts. This can be further broken down to power consumption cost per day which stands in at about $1.44 at the highest and $0.43 at the lowest.

Crypto mining has become a divisive issue. Miners gobble up popular graphics cards by the armful, depleting inventory and driving up prices. Gamers are left to pay exorbitant prices, sometimes as much as double, even for mainstream GPUs. A little animosity between the two camps is therefore understandable.
Bitcoin and Litecoin prices tend to move together; Bitcoins stratospheric leap over the past month – it’s down from a high of $1200 (£730) but trading at $870 (£530) as I write this – has created an odd situation where it’s easier to mine Litecoin and then convert LTC to BTC, than it is to just mine BTC to start with.
Hashes per watt is absolutely not the metric you want to judge a card’s merit on. Case and point: you pick an RX 560 and the ilk as the ultimate card, even at a pittance of hashes per card. Usually, the increased coins earned from the extra hashpower outstrips the extra power usage significantly (up until you hit that steep portion of the performance exponential curve). If you’re scaling anywhere past a few cards or a single rig, 75W vs 100W on a card isn’t your primary concern.
Anyway, I was looking for a case for 7 GPU mining, but could not find since all of them are made for 6 GPU mining, so probably it has to be custom made, unless, i place 6 GPU’s in a case and the 7th one i can place outside of it, probably not a good idea, can you tell me where i can buy a good case with decent airflow for 7 GPU’s since i would like to buy this mother board…
