GPUs were the next available option for miners after noticing that the CPUs were becoming slower with each given day. They realized that the energy consumption of graphics cards was quite high, and so they could be used to mine Bitcoins. AMD GPUs are actually the best in this regard.
Machine learning is something I’ve studied and experimented with only a tiny bit by comparison. My own background is very heavy on decentralized networking. The algorithms, programming, and economics behind it have fascinated me for years and I thankfully ended up in the position to pursue it full time.
As there is a huge demand for Ether across the globe, in the long run the price will eventually keep increasing. Now is the best opportunity for people looking for investing. If you have keen knowledge about trading, you could also make some good profit day trading Ethereum.
The way I understand it, the problem wasn’t with the Ethereum code, it was with the the way the DOA was programmed. Someone found a loophole in the code and utilized it to drain the company. Since it wasn’t with the Ethereum code, the hard sets a bad precedent.

Anyone who is familiar with Minecraft is well aware that the game’s general graphics are pixelated and primitive. While this has a touch of simplicity and nostalgia to it, some may find this aesthetic to be rough and stale after awhile. So what does one to do freshen up the graphical experience of Minecraft? Well, Sonic Ether’s Unbelievable Shaders is a great way to reinvent the game’s graphics from bland to breathtaking.
you have usually two options: you can use the software that comes with the GPU or use one that you like, but note that it takes some time for third part software to catch up with new GPUs, but they are usually better… (for 480 and 470 you can use WattMan, that comes with the driver…)
I wrote this headline in June 2017, not sure if I should keep it when I will update the article next time. The price of an Ether should outperform that of a Bitcoin for the coming duration. What this means is that a dollar invested in Ether will return a higher ROI than investing the same dollar in Bitcoin. This indeed can be hard to believe in January 2018 when looking at Bitcoin price, but we all know that less than 10 weeks ago it was under $6,000. Most likely Bitcoin its being used by short term investors these days. Also, the assertion is based on the growth of Ethereum between 2015-2017 while Bitcoin was between 2009-2017.
I would normally recommend using an Intel Atom motherboard. Unfortunately, no consumer-class Atom board offers full-sized PCIe x16 ports. Also, there’s some confusion regarding how much power the PCIe slot produces. According to its specifications, a PCIe x16 slot can deliver around 75 watts. That should be enough to handle the 75-watt draw of the 460, but some 460 manufacturers include an optional 6-pin connector — for added safety.
Hey there! Could you maybe try to get this to work on macOS as well? When I start it then it gives me a bunch of “invalid program:” and then several different things. (composite, gbuffers, final and others)
The logic behind the “more revenue than cost of electricity” definition of profit is like if someone were to say “Give me a million dollars to join my club. The membership entitles you to give me a dollar every day and I’ll give you $2. So every day you get 100% profit! Oh also in 6-18 months from now the membership expires. Best club ever” Yeah sure you’ll make more revenue than cost per day but overall it was a giant loss. Of course those are greatly exaggerated numbers to establish my point.
Today, we will go over the Top 4 Ethereum mining hardware. You will learn what GPU Ethereum Miner is and how to find the best GPU and rig. Moreover, we will look into actual hardware that can be used for mining Ethereum. Ready?
Well, since I started mining Ether, I went from over 20 ether a day like in Dec 2015 to today it’s saying 5.92, on the same exact setup, actually I have slightly more Hashes because of toying with settings and whatnot along the way. I only experience less Ether week to week. I really wouldn’t advice anyone to jump in now, unless they plan to use the computer as a gaming rig later, most likely in a month or 2 the profits will be back in line with the 2015 crypto mining world, which is not much more than cost for most people.

ehhh I live in a town where there is probably 0 people mining bitcoins, I have to drive 150 miles at least to buy bitcoin from a btc atm. I dont think I will have trouble finding old graphics cards. But ya thanks
The growing interest in home mining is inspiring companies to cash in as well, including SMS IT Group, a Los Angeles company selling mining rigs. Scott McCarthy, the company’s CEO, explains that they “can’t build the rigs fast enough.” It’s no surprise, when some home enthusiasts claim to make hundreds of dollars per month, and given that the rigs do all of the work themselves.
The answer is Difficulty. By automatically adjusting the computational difficulty of solving a block, the Ethereum blockchain is able to maintain ~15 second intervals. You’ll notice Difficulty closely tracks hashrate and it too has seen exponential growth this year:
Profitability decline per year – This is probably the most important and elusive variable of them all. The idea is that since no one can actually predict the rate of miners joining the network no one can also predict how difficult it will be to mine in 6 weeks, 6 months or 6 years from now. This is one of the two reasons no one will ever be able to answer you once and for all “is Bitcoin mining profitable ?”. The second reason is the conversion rate. In the case below, you can insert an annual profitability decline factor that will help you estimate the growing difficulty.
Here in brazil, the prices are abusive, but the power cost is very low, at least 19 Cents a watt. Total Hashrate of the project, 52MH’s. In the past months, i’ll go for more, buy at least 4x RX480 Custom. Maybe in US, they will cost 230-250US, here, 1400-1700 BRL.
Actually I already have a server farm I had dedicated to my work in my basement. However that was clustered CPU’s. I’ve been developing GPU versions of my libraries for about a year now (or at least trying to) but have been restricted to a single cheap NVIDIA card that has limited me. I had been wanting to buy a GPU cluster to compliment my CPU cluster for a while, but the “pays for itself” part made this a great investment.
“It just so happened that at the time I was reading up on mining, I was building a personal computer for purposes of video editing…some AI stuff, and whatever I throw at it,” says Arjun Singh Brar, a recent graduate of Singapore University of Technology and Design. With access to his dorm’s free electricity, he thought, “Why don’t I just give [mining] a try.”
Beware that this calculation does not account for risks and other costs. This seems, however, a good way for those who have a partially used GPU for other purposes to recover their initial investment and more.
Remember Ethereum will make mining off a GPU useless once it moves to PoS so these rigs will not be profitable in a reasonably short time. So in my mind it is perfect, it runs for a year mining ethereum, effectively paying for itself, then once Ethereum upgrades i will dedicate it 100% to playing with my libraries (which might be done by then). So in that regard it is perfect.
Today, yes it’s still profitable, but the question if you started today is can you break even before difficulty, god, time bombs, price drops, etc bite your ass. Yes other coins might just take over when need be (look at monero lately just about overtaking ETH profits).. But they also might not. I’d 100% tell a hobby-miner to hop in if he has the cash and wants to learn.. But dropping 20K is a gamble for sure.
The World Food Programme (WFP) has used Ethereum to deliver $1.4m in food vouchers, via the use of iris recognition scanners in camp supermarkets, to around 10,000 Syrian refugees in Jordan, a scheme it plans to expand tenfold in four camps.
I myself was very curious about this type of thing and hope to see more articles of it’s kind (to me more Hardware related than the numerous game reviews). One thing you did not mention however, is you could theoretically mine at break even, and if the Eth value explodes, discover your profit at that juncture. I guess that would make you more a speculator than a miner though?
Also, this calculator shows that DAG size will only reach the point to render 3GB unusable around the end of this year (block ~6.9 million, epoch 231), not epoch 180 like shown in the article. Not sure which to trust…
