The value of Bitcoin is one thing that has to be continuously kept on the mind. Whereas it might appear very lucrative today, the markets are not easily predictable, and the price can come down to any amount the next day. Anyone who has an interest in venturing into this market must understand that one fact.
Bonus Sleeper: Library Credits (LBC). This one is easy, they are launching their product in June, which sounds awesome (decentralized youtube) and is dirt cheap due to its recent pullback. A must accumulate ahead of its launch.
These include everything from helping to reduce the 30% of UN aid budgets lost to corruption to building online identity portfolios for refugees, reconciling everything from health and education records to entitlements.
Ethereum is quite difficult to mine on your standard PC as there are quite a few step to go through as can be seen in our comprehensive guide here. If you aren’t tech savvy or willing to give a bit of time to getting it up and running yourself, there is another way. This is where you pay someone else to do it for you and get them to run the mining equipment on your behalf. You can compare all Bitcoin and Ethereum cloud mining contracts here.
Mining centers in a small US town of Plattsburgh, NY have stumbled upon a moratorium filing. Local politicians expressed the concern over high consumption of electricity and environment. In general, the politicians want those centers to stop their activity and stay away from the town for good. The public hearing date is set on March 15 at the Common Council Chambers.
He uses a vending machine as a real life example. You input the code B6 into the vending machine. The vending machine takes this code, and then executes the code. The candy bar labled B6 is then dispensed.
One of three things is going on here, either the person really does not know what they are talking about (e.g. hashrates for RX 400 & 500 series, the R9 only coming in 4gb, etc), or they are advertising for Nvidia, or they are attempting to get a sell off for AMD cards. I don’t mind because I have been able to get some good prices on AMD cards lately with one guy even saying that he was selling cards he just purchased brand new in December because their technology was becoming obsolete. Probably read this article and took it… Read more »
Us mere mortals wouldn’t have an R9 290X level of card lying idle. Heck, suppose we do have unused GPU it would be something from 2 gen before it and a mainstream oran entry level card of its time at that, at the very least.
Well, there is no direct relation to how much you can mine using PC in particular amount of time as it depends on a lot of factors. If you are interested in mining using your standard PC, then the amount of ether mined will not be profitable enough as it takes up a lot of electricity.
When there isnt a long time line to do much more than break even and perhaps a little extra your thinking has to change. Now if you want to make a generic cryptominer, honestly, your probably better with ASICs or something. But this build, and post, was never meant to be about generic cryptominers.
As mining requires a lot of computing power, Ethereum mining pools are much beneficial in terms of acquiring a lot of ether. In mining pools, miners come together to pool their resources and then mine together.
Bitcoin talk is highly negative on Genesis, even though it is acknowledged as the most legitimate cloud mining operation, and it seems it’s a lot less profitable than you think. You have to contend both with price and difficulty, which is why they lock you into a 2 year contract. It sounds better than it is until you run the numbers, and find that in most cases, buying and holding seems to work better.
In February of 2014, Mt. Gox got hacked and lost 740,000 bitcoins. The Japanese exchange declared bankruptcy and Rahul lost every penny. Despite joining the subsequent class action lawsuit, he told me he still hasn’t seen any of his investment returned.
Mining runs the transaction and ledger network these coins run on. Thus miners are being paid to help run a financial network with their spare processing power. Anyone watch the show “Silicon Valley”? This is the future of computing – Mass Decentralized networks.
At the time of writing, many of the most popular mining GPUs are out-of-stock worldwide. I found SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RADEON RX 570 4G GPUs in stock from a Canadian vendor for $300 each (or $222 in USD). According to this article: Are the RX570 and RX580 Profitable? – Mining Performance Review – 1st Mining Rig, you can get a hash rate of roughly 30 MH/s from each GPU with 125W of power usage.
Impossible to predict. That depends on the development of the price, which is very volatile. Regarding the current development, ROI when spending the amount mentioned above will probably take place after about 3 months (when you’re NOT paying for electricity).
1x RAM (System Memory) –  4 GB RAM – You don’t need a lot of system memory to mine ethereum effectively. 4GB is about as small as a stick of RAM comes these days, so I recommend just picking up a cheap one as long as it is DDR 4 desktop memory.
Thanks, Steven, very helpful. Not too sure about the DragonMint machine (lots of negative press out there) but Slush does sound reputable. Think my partner and I will jump in and mine Bitcoin and LiteCoin with one machine each.
@roberttene with friends invested on GenesisMining as well, it seems to have great terms which are ideal for making an investment easily in a small amount of time. The limitations are the long time it takes to get a return compared to making our own mining rigs plus not really owning anything. For the greatest profits, making our own mining rigs seems to be a better investment not just of the money but for the valuable learning it takes to build on our own machines which then translates to skills good for earning high dollars per hour!
I ask my wife to pinch me every morning when I wake up and check my bank balance. I have never seen a number that big before in MY bank account. And it just continues to grow and grow some more…this is what I’ve been waiting for my entire life. Now that I have a taste of what it really feels like to be my own boss and make tens of thousands of dollars every week, I won’t ever look back!
Just a hypothetical, but say someone had (legal) remote access to 5,000+ normal desktop computers. If he/she were to install the software on them, could it be profitable? On-board Intel graphics type machines.
Hashrate: The hashrate is the potential of the processing unit, it determines how many hash can process one unit per second. When choosing a GPU to mine Ether, we should look at this value is high, between 20 and 30 MH / s. Currently the most powerful units on the market are the NVIDIA with Pascal architecture or the AMD with Polaris.
I think PoS is needed for a serious project like ETH yeah, trusting in miners is foolish, since 99% of us are in for the profits, so we’ll go wherever there’s money, and that’s not a good thing for projects that require consistensy.
You may well need mining software for your ASIC miner, too, although some newer models promise to ship with everything pre-configured, including a bitcoin address, so that all you need to do is plug it in the wall.
Application-specific integrated circuit chips (ASICs) differ from other mining rigs as they don’t utilize GPUs to do the mining, which means price and power consumption is reduced. They can also solve Bitcoin blocks faster, which means they are definitely worth looking into. This ASIC miner from Mineshop.eu is a good mid-range miner that has a hash rate of 19.5 GH/s. Definitely one to consider if space is at a premium.
Make sure to monitor CPU usage due to hardware interupts when tuning pci latency. With pci latency timer set too high, I had 100% CPU usage and mining barely worked. With it set too low, cards wouldn’t be detected at all.
Learn about graphics cards because they are responsible for most hashing power. A list to get started is available at https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining#/equipment which will help with learning but then also show you that most of the ones already proven to work well for others are sold out!
When Ethereum started off, the original vision was to have it mined via the CPU itself. The primary reason behind this (and making mining Ethereum ASIC-resistant) is that this will help provide fair competition. (While this is debatable it is still fairer than ASIC-led mining). However, while the original intention was to have Ether mined on CPU, miners soon discovered that the GPU led mining faster because it provides a greater hashing power.
Additionally, Ethereum plans with its next update tagged Serenity, to take out the concept of mining entirely and replace it with a new mechanism called Proof of Stake which will be powered by a consensus algorithm.
The Radeon R9 295X2 has by far the highest hash rate (46.0 MH/s) of the Ethereum GPUs on the market and will cost you $600. It has a power cost per day of about $1.44, a return per day of about $1.61 and a cost per MH/s of $13.04. This gives a return per year of $586.43.
Sonic Ether’s Unbelievable Shaders overhauls nearly everything about the game’s graphics. With this shader pack, water looks clear and fluid, plants look alive and seem to sway back and forth as if they were breathing, and nighttime feels even spookier than ever. Certain aspects about vanilla have connected textures, but those pale in comparison to Sonic Ether’s shaders. Bodies of water, whether small or huge and open, look like a uniform piece–just like they do with real bodies of water. On a windy day, trees and tall grass will dance back in forth in the breeze, and Sonic Ether’s shaders incorporate that sense of animation.

  1. Because of all of that my rig will actually pay for itself in less time than your rig will pay for itself. Not saying your rig is bad by any means. Just saying I stand more of a chance of breaking even than you do 🙂
Hi Vincent, Well, I would suggest that the best place to start is GPU mining. Check out our Mining Guides section for articles on mining Ethereum and Zcash as these are both good coins to mine with a GPU. A good coin to mine with CPU is Monero, although we don’t currently have a guide to doing that directly (we do have one for mining it through websites but this isn’t as efficient). Only free software and free membership to a pool is required to start mining. GPU mining will lead to wear and tear on your card, yes, the… Read more »
“On the charity side, the first thing to say is that blockchain is not just about Bitcoin … Charities don’t need to be holding cryptocurrencies but focus on the underlying technology [to] solve problems.”
What kind of GPUs would you use? Do you have any examples? I’ve heard of external GPUs for workstation docks. In theory, it should work, since cryptomining generally runs off the GPU and doesn’t use the CPU very much.
