I have only been doing this a little over a week, but have seen real deposits of ZEC going into my accounts daily – and so far in amounts that are profitable. Mining works by connecting to the blockchain and verifying transactions by verifying new blocks in the blockchain. By doing this they are securing the network and preventing errors from happening such as double spending. The miners put these blocks through a process by applying a mathematical formula to it, turning the numbers into a shorter, random looking sequence of numbers. This number is the blockchain’s hash. Producing hashes from the data of a blockchain’s block is easy, however it is impossible to work out what the starting data was just by looking at the hash. Each hash is unique and changing even a single character in the hash changes it completely. Here is an excellent video which explains what your computers do when its mining that uses pen and paper as an example (This method is extremely inefficient so do not expect to make a profit off of it.)

The GTX 1070 has a steady hash rate of 26 Mh/s with a power draw of about 135W, with a monthly profit of 58.18 USD and a power cost of 8.26 USD per month. This card will take just under 9 months to pay itself off at 500 USD, and 8 months to pay off at 569 CAD.

The problem is that motherboards with 2 x16 PCIe slots (either 2.0 or 3.0 should work) tend to cost quite a bit. Currently, I believe that people are buying older high end boards and using Celeron processors (which are the lowest tier for socketed processors) in order to get a board that’s within an affordable price bracket. PCIe is an older socket, so in theory you should be able to go back pretty far and find something that works.

According to coinmarketcap.com website, the total crypto currency market cap in July 25, 2017 is $95 bln. Bitcoin leads the market taking almost half of that =  47.4% or $45 bln, followed by Ethereum…
If you’re reading a newbie’s guide to Ethereum mining and have a GPU powerful enough to make it worthwhile, we’re going to assume you’re running Windows so we’ll focus on mining Ethereum on that platform.
Mining Ether takes up a lot of electricity. On the plus side, though, if mining practices are carried out efficiently more income is generated through the sale of Ether. Ethereum mining calculators are available for calculating profits. So, there’s no need to get worked up since you’ll still get a profit at the end.

Good points in this post. Interesting to see I’m not the only one that is thinking about this. The decision to buy a coin should be based on real analysis of the coin. I found that people keep buying coins without have any knowledge of them. This is considered high risk. In fact, you’ll be lucky to break even. However, Genesis gets your money, makes an immediate fiat currency profit on the hardware and electricity costs that remain constant over two years. They can take that money and buy ETH with it, or whatever – even putting it in the bank or stock market works – and make quite the bundle. They even get to cream off a few on any ETH you earn further increasing their bank – all for free.
The ideal GPU when it comes to mining Ethereum is one which offers the highest hash-rate at the lowest power. Currently there are GPUs which provide hash-rates up to 46MH/s at the upper end and at the lower end there are GPUs which offer a hash-rate of about 24MH/s. There are many others which offer a lower hash-rate but they are quite slow and would take a long time to generate Ethereum.
GPU   Graphical Processing Unit, a GPU (or commonly just referred to as a graphics card) was previously the dominant way of Bitcoin mining. It was way beyond the efficiency of a CPU and plenty common among computer users to gain widespread adoption. With the increase in the difficulty it has recently become too inefficient for most to continue mining with GPUs as their electric bills now compete with the value they generate. I’m not here to make claims on where the price goes, and I certainly would warn the novice speculator against putting money they don’t have/cannot afford to lose 100% into mining.
