For the CPU part of this guide, we are going to use Nicehash miner. While this miner works for both CPU and GPU, we are going to get the best performance if we use different miners for CPU and GPU. This is because the Claymore miner is faster but only works for CPU.

If you are on a private network (and if you just want to test the technology for free, you should) then any normal computer with a normal CPU will be able to run the network and earn test ether (ether that is only redeemable on the test network where it was generated) through mining. This is the best choice for small-scale network or testing privately, as it’s less resource intensive. On the real (or live test) network a normal desktop (or laptop) computer might take a very long time to successfully mine a block and receive ether.

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M900 is an excellent desktop PC for cryptocurrency mining use, as it combines speed and power with an excellent build quality and reliability which is essential for PCs that will be left on for long periods of time. The Lenovo ThinkCentre M900 comes in a range of configurations, with the top-end model boasting a huge amount of power. This flexibility lets you build a Lenovo ThinkCentre M900 that suits your needs, and there’s plenty of room to upgrade and expand this desktop in the future.

I myself have about $50,000 to invest in forex (not that I have it all in forex right now: I only have $1,040 in forex right now, and aim to put in more and more money as time goes on and I get better and better at it) – but then, if what you say is correct, I could be making $1,250 a day on the average! Is that even POSSIBLE?

Hi Bhavesh, OK, this seems to be a fairly common error but it’s beyond my capabilities to diagnose precisely from that log. I’ve seen a variety of solutions to this issue proposed on various forums: https://ethereum.stackexchange.com/questions/18806/couldnt-connect-to-node/23153#23153 https://github.com/ethereum/mist/issues/2426 https://github.com/ethereum/mist/wiki#unable-to-find-peers I suggest starting with the simple solutions first before trying the more advanced stuff. So if using Windows, start things up in Administrator mode. Then try starting Geth manually with the –nat=none flag. Then try starting from the command line as someone suggested. You can also backup your data directory, rename / move it, and let the wallet resync itself… From there,… Read more »

Forget trying to mine for ether with an old, low quality graphics card and upgrade to the ASUS ROG Strix 580 08G AMD Graphics Card for an enhanced mining and gaming experience. In this review, we are going to talk a little more about the features of the ASUS ROG Strix 580 08G AMD Graphics Card, but we are also going to give you an overview of what people who have purchased the graphics card had to say about their overall experience with it…

For the 12/13 GPU mining rigs, the best motherboard to use is a ASRock H110 Pro BTC (Windows can only support 12 AMD GPU’s at the same time, you can combine 12 AMD + 6 Nvidia GPU’s but it’s not worth it, there are some 19+ Motherboards, but from personal experience you will have problems with them, so better stick to 6 or 12 GPU Mining Rigs)

The answer is Difficulty. By automatically adjusting the computational difficulty of solving a block, the Ethereum blockchain is able to maintain ~15 second intervals. You’ll notice Difficulty closely tracks hashrate and it too has seen exponential growth this year:

“But Rob, I am trading with an edge, so I am risking as much as I could potentially earn” you might say. That’s a true statement if you have a strategy with a trading edge. Your expected return should be positive, but without leverage, it is going to be a relatively tiny amount. And during times of bad luck, we can still have losing streaks. When we throw leverage into the mix, that’s how traders attempt to target those excessive gains. Which in turn is how traders can produce excessive losses. Leverage is beneficial up to point, but not when it can turn a winning strategy into a loser.

  1. Difficulty is likely to continue its established rising trend (and could spike on the release of more efficient GPUs) and price is extremely unpredictable (and may crash if the market dislikes Ethereum’s solution to its on-going DAO crisis). Further, Ethereum is scheduled to switch to a Proof of Stake model at some unspecified date, meaning it will no longer be mineable.

Once downloaded, geth should be unzipped and transferred to the rig drive. Miners must use the command prompt to execute the application once it is installed. For Windows users, ‘C:UsersUsername> is typically the display format for the command terminal. Locate geth and create an account.
