I’m wondering if you can help me troubleshoot something with Claymore Miner, though. It randomly crashes on me without any error messages (even when I add pause to the end of the start.bat to check). Is this because of some instability in my hardware? I haven’t overclocked anything and this is a fairly recent installation of Windows 10. It could be that the graphics card (GTX 1070) itself was factory overclocked and I might need to underclock it.

This is something that most first-time investors seem to neglect. Even when dual mining with just a cpu or gpu, you are in fact directly and indirectly depleting other component’s as well. The same is true for non-computer based mining as well; everything that is in use has to have an amortization period, and should be factored in as a potential future cost, in case of a breakdown or reduced efficiency coming about due to prolonged use.
There is a fourth possibility; which is that I missed the AMD driver update which fixed the speed problems for RX cards. I will do some more research and update the article. Thanks for pointing out the error though.

Have a question in regards to the CPU, since some coins can be mined via CPU, what would be the consequences to have a good CPU and also mine something with it while the GPU´s also do some mining, then i would get some extra mining power? or am i thinking wrong here?
An Ethereum mining rig is a configuration of two or more Ethereum mining GPUs. In most cases a rig consists of four or more GPUs. Obviously they’re more expensive than one GPU, but they also have far superior hashing power.

The statement that you need a big investment is not true neither (depending on what you call big). I have a small rig with 4 RX580 8 GB and it costed me 1500€. I started with one GPU and than gradually expanded. I buy my GPU’s at around 300€, which is I think reasonably priced.
