“ethereum mining difficulty vs bitcoin”

“ethereum mining difficulty vs bitcoin”

It’s been a while since we updated this series this past summer, but our answer for the “Is it worth it?” question has remained mostly the same. Ethereum saw increasing difficulty throughout the fall and little increase in price, which made mining steadily less and less attractive. But recently, Ethereum has boomed to be priced at around $700-$800, which has led to a resurgence in mining interest.
February 16 marks a small 2-month anniversary since I’ve started to mine Ethereum and others altcoins. In today’s article let’s take a quick review and try to understand is GPU mining still profitable in 2018? It all…
I’m not here to make claims on where the price goes, and I certainly would warn the novice speculator against putting money they don’t have/cannot afford to lose 100% into mining. If you’re a believer in where ETH is headed, though, and you think it could be worth 10x it’s current price down the road, then maybe it IS worth it. Yet, we could wake up tomorrow and it’s worth $0.
It’s hard for me to tell yet – how legit is HashFlare, they seem pretty legit to me, but I haven’t yet withdrawn any  funds from there yet (well, I’ve been with HashFlare cloud mining just for a month and mining BTC)
The best advice is usually to just pick up whichever 570/580 card you can get your hands on for the least money, as mining speed differences between brands/models are pretty small after optimization. These 8GB MSI RX 570 cards are $220 each as of 11/29/2017, and I’m running mine at 28 Mh/sec without pushing them too hard.
We looked at some popular cloud mining companies and their offerings in 2016, the cost barrier to cloud mine is relatively cheap and users can start mining immediately. There are a number of cloud mining companies offering services. Genesis Mining was the world’s first large scale multi-algorithm based cloud mining service, which provides both bitcoin and altcoin mining solutions. Cldmine.com offers cloud mining services in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
** Warning: this has been tested on the Frontier test-net and has just recently undergone testing on the Frontier live-net, which has just been launched. A notice on costs: you are going to spend about 2.60 USD / hour for a g2.8 instance so keep this in mind, if you want to proceed **
Now, let’s do the math for Hashflare ethereum cloud mining contract, with initial $220 investment we could buy exactly 10MH/s mining contract for one year. That’s already 2MH/s less if we would opt to buy GPU card.
This is really overpriced. Buy 4 7990 and get 200 MH/s for around 2600. MB, CPU, HD, PSU, riser cards and built an open air case for around $400. Then if it ever gets to the point mining isn’t profitable sell the cards etc. and save money and make more money than paying $4400 for 100 MH/s…
Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin & Ethereum have grown tremendously since they were created, and as more people and businesses adopt them the value will only continue to rise. For example, Ethereum has already grown over 4000% this year alone!
Mining is a computationally intensive work that requires a lot of processing power and time. Mining is the act of participating in a given peer distributed cryptocurrency network in consensus. The miner is subsequently rewarded for providing solutions to challenging math problems. It is done by putting the computer’s hardware to use with mining applications.
With projects like Golem you’ll be able to hire out your compute power through Ethereum to industries such as science, mining, CGI movie producers, etc…who generally need huge capital to invest in their own super computer data centers.
Disclosure: Mining metrics are calculated based on a network hash rate of 109,271 GH/s and using an ETH – USD exchange rate of 1 ETH =306.01. Block reward is fixed at 3  ETH and future block reward reductions are not taken into account. The average block time used in the calculation is 15 seconds. The electricity price used in generating these metrics is $ 0.074 per kWh.
If you are looking for a solid Ethereum mining hardware, then the Titan cards are something you should look into. GeForce Titan Xp impressed many miners. The large amounts of VRAM are supplemented by an excellent hash rate without too much expenditure of power. Same as RX Vega 64, its top-end AMD rival, this card can be overclocked up to 42 Mh/s, but it will consume 300 W when pushed that hard. On the other hand, the RX Vega 64 achieves a very similar performance but for about half the price.
Like all crypto currencies, the future of Ethereum remains uncertain, but the tone of the conversation surrounding Ethereum is different than almost any other crypto currency. Discussing the excitement, Genesis Mining’s CEO Marco Streng stated, “We believe it is headed to the moon and we are building a rocket ship to make sure our customers do not miss out”.
Any others: Do not trust any random names on the internet, bitcoin is a currency that cant be chargeback in anyway and so thieves are out there looking to steal your bitcoins so be prepared and dont invest in every single website you find out there. Some are legit, some scams.
We will note that your rig won’t have a power button so you’ll need to jump the power switch pins on the motherboard. We used a screw driver to tap the pins to start the rig, but you could also buy a power button.
Ethereum is one of the fastest growing cryptocurrencies next to Bitcoin, the native digital currency which has been taking the world by storm. Just a year and half ago, the price of Ethereum was $1, now it is well over $300 with an all-time high of over $400. The rapid growth of Ethereum mining excited investors who were eager not to miss out on another hyper-growth investment opportunity.
However, my single most important piece of advice is to have fun, and to not panic when you have issues, setting up a mining rig and managing it can be very fun, and also very stressful when it’s not working. If you are having problems you should definitely contact the communities I listed above, as someone else is bound to have had the same issues as you and can help you out.
This post is an early bird. While I won’t charge a lot for my work, the price will also be affected by the cost of each of the individual components of the rig. Therefore, my idea is to find the best deals for each of the components. The better the deal the lower is the price of the final product. Every penny I save on the components is a penny you save on the final product. That is my policy.
The hashrate keeps falling quite fast and a flood of RX cards may hit the market when they’re no longer usable for Ethereum mining. Those who want to mine other altcoins may be possible to pick up some bargains.
Notice the wave pattern in the chart? Our guess is its claymore’s dev fee kicking in at that time. We also seemed to had some internet outage (and that is the most annoying thing ever – no internet, no mining)
The Mist package contains the Ethereum wallet which you’ll need to receive any mining profits. Mist also includes an Ethereum browser with various functions, such as messaging and a social network and tutorials. As a tip, these tutorials and the social network are helpful learning resources. Don’t be scared to ask the Ethereals if you’re experience difficulty with any part of this process.
3) Choose a memorable download folder for the “Ethereum Wallet” zip file. Extract it with a suitable file extraction tool, navigate to the new folder the extractor creates and then locate and run the Ethereum app.
Hi Steemians, a few days ago I had a talk with a friend about Ethereum mining. Last year I invested 50 € in Ethereum Cloud Mining for him for example and now he has 2.3 Ether worth over 550 $. If I had bought Ether directly for 50€ last year, it would be more than 5 ETH worth over 1000 € today. So the question is: What is more profitable in 2017? Buying Ether, or Ethereum Cloud Mining?
Now replace “” with your Ethereum Wallet address (which starts with 0x…) so copy that from your other text file and paste it here.  Then replace “” with any name you would like to create for your miner.  We’ll use “MiningRig1” for our example, so you now have:
Note, when downloading the Claymore Miner Windows may provide a warning, but if you used Claymore’s download link can you ignore this.  He is a well-respected developer who has been building crypto miners for many years.
If you would plan to run this for a longer time, you should try to lower the clock speed on the GPU core to lower power consumption and increase the memory clock speed to increase hash rate. Since Ethereum is not very dependent on the core clock and basically only the memory clock it would make performance better while also increase the profit margin
4) Remote reboot and power management. There is a device called an iCoostor. It will monitor your power usage and give you the opportunity to cut power to your rig remotely. This can be important 1) to know your power costs 2) if your rig hangs you can cut power using the iCoostor and then when you restore power (all remotely) you can have the BIOS set to automatically reboot your rig. That combined with the automated startup scripts provided on this site will have you back up and mining in minutes from anywhere you have an internet connection using only your smartphone.
You might be not interested in getting a rig from me now, but I would appreciate a lot if you’d tell other people about this offer. Who knows, maybe there is someone you know who could benefit from those rigs.
I have compiled a list of current prices for various Graphic Cards for use with ethereum mining. Below is a list of prices and where to purchase the GPUs in both Canadian and United States prices and markets. Also included is a calculation of the cost per Mh/s, as well as the current profitability of each GPU with power taken into account. With this we can find the best cost to return ratio for buying a GPU to mine with as of today, September 3rd, 2017. These are also all stock rates, without overclocking the GPU or making them more save your file as Batch file with the bat extension.  Choose File > Save As and then in the box, choose a name for it and then type “.bat” after the name, and in the Save as type box, make sure you select “All Files”, and then click Save.  Congrats, you now have a batch file ready to mine!  Create a shortcut for the new Bat file and send it to your desktop.  You can then delete the text file version of the file.

  1. As always agree with what you’ve written here. I definitely do think it is profitable for people who already have cards. I still think it could be profitable even at current GPU prices, but for me it is insane to buy more at this point from a risk standpoint, as I’m being ultra risk averse.
Some settings should be modified in Windows to get you ready for mining.  First, you don’t want your computer to go to Sleep as it will interrupt your mining so go into your Power Settings and set it to “Never” turn off/sleep.
First of all I would like to thank you all for your support. I really appreciate your interest in the project and the final products. To make things more simple and transparent, I’ve decided to keep this journal for those of you who are waiting to order the rigs. I know you want them ASAP ? and I thought time will go faster if you see how is everything going and how long will take until orders are available. Do let me know if you have any kind of recommendations or positive criticism!
Like the concept and ease of website. Not clear as to the difference of the Monero contract vs others you sell as I thought I could allocate my mining across different coins which was a little disappointing. Looking forward to seeing results!
