Difficulty is likely to continue its established rising trend (and could spike on the release of more efficient GPUs) and price is extremely unpredictable (and may crash if the market dislikes Ethereum’s solution to its on-going DAO crisis). Further, Ethereum is scheduled to switch to a Proof of Stake model at some unspecified date, meaning it will no longer be mineable.
The My Crypto Buddy calculator is another useful calculator which has the option to include difficulty into the calculations. This means that it decreases your mining profit each month depending on how much the site estimates that the network’s difficulty will go up or down. For example, if the difficulty goes up by 100 GH/s in one month, the calculator will then assume that every following month will incur a difficulty increase of the same amount. This leads to a problem. If in one month the network receives an abnormal  difficulty bump, whether due to a price increase of the currency leading other miners to join the network, or if AMD or NVidia release a new graphics card with a big hash rate boost, the MCB calculator will then use that abnormal value as the absolute value for every month, making the calculator unreliable. Though it is still useful to know that your mining income will decrease every month due to difficulty. This calculator also includes the mining pool fee.
One of three things is going on here, either the person really does not know what they are talking about (e.g. hashrates for RX 400 & 500 series, the R9 only coming in 4gb, etc), or they are advertising for Nvidia, or they are attempting to get a sell off for AMD cards. I don’t mind because I have been able to get some good prices on AMD cards lately with one guy even saying that he was selling cards he just purchased brand new in December because their technology was becoming obsolete. Probably read this article and took it… Read more »
R9 390(X) can boast a pretty good performance and achieves a hashrate similar to the GTX 1079 Ti and 1080 models. However, the price is far lower than theirs and R9 390(X) also has lower power consumption.
The rest of the computer doesn’t matter much. In general, you want a case that can adequately cool either an RX 460 or RX 470 — but GPUs include their own cooling mechanism. The basic idea behind a case is that it shouldn’t impede the GPU’s ability to cool itself. Some people even choose to do open air builds. An extreme few daisy chain together multiple 470 GPUs on Ikea storage shelves!
As you can see here, our hypothetical mining rig is more efficient and profitable than some of the best mining equipment on the market right now. We are assuming four GPUs that mine 40 MH/s each. The hardware specs are four GPUs, plus a processor, a motherboard, and a power supply rated at 1,000 Watts of electricity. The cost of this rig would be approximately $3,000.
Update, 2/5/2018: We have a new article posted detailing CyptoNote (Monero) mining performance with AMD’s Threadripper processor with a CPU-optimized algorithm, alongside a handful of other X86 processors and a powerful GeForce GTX 1080 Ti GPU.
A word on positioning. GPU’s can get hot – especially if you overclock them so be sure to get the best bang for your buck – and to be safe to place your rig in a well ventilated area so it doesn’t overheat.
The Medium Genesis Ethereum Mining contract is the latest offering from the reputable provider of outsourced crypto mining contracts. The contracts have a lifetime of two year and the Company guarantees 100% uptime by substituting their own equipment. There are no extra fees to pay on top of the original price.
This is my first cloud mining contract. The entire process is quite straightforward. The best part is the one-time payment charge and no additional maintenance fees over the entire duration of 2 years. I have been getting ZEC daily in my account from the first day and hope to recover my costs over 12-15 month duration. Thanks, Genesis Mining.
AMD cards are likely the best choice for the budget-conscious. However, the top-end Nvidia cards outperform them in terms of power efficiency. Carefully weigh your options, and keep in mind your budget and power costs.
Your original link to amazon which included the picoPSU with an adapter is no longer available (404 page). Can you provide the optimal power brick adapter (link to product or recommended specifications) for use with the picoPSU 160xt in this build please?
Miners perform solving of computationally complex problems and are rewarded Ether in return for their effort, time and processing power of their computers. Its basically like how you used to play video games and after winning each level, the next level gets unlocked. Similarly, the game here is mathematical puzzles and new levels are blocks in the blockchain.
Mining works by connecting to the blockchain and verifying transactions by verifying new blocks in the blockchain. By doing this they are securing the network and preventing errors from happening such as double spending. The miners put these blocks through a process by applying a mathematical formula to it, turning the numbers into a shorter, random looking sequence of numbers. This number is the blockchain’s hash. Producing hashes from the data of a blockchain’s block is easy, however it is impossible to work out what the starting data was just by looking at the hash. Each hash is unique and changing even a single character in the hash changes it completely. Here is an excellent video which explains what your computers do when its mining that uses pen and paper as an example (This method is extremely inefficient so do not expect to make a profit off of it.)
Now you’re talking about difficulty increase of 100%, which with this rate is easily going to happen before summer, might even be by march. Hopefully price will increase as well, but at some point we’ll be seeing a saturated market (especially once ETH goes PoS), so your prediction here is that 12-18months payback period. While i’d not speculate more than 6-8 months in the future. Because we can’t possibly know what will happen once PoS happens.
My top choice is currently the Asus B250 Mining Expert board. It’s literally made for mining, with support for up to 19 (!) GPUs and 3 power supplies right out of the box. Even if you don’t intend to initially run more than a few GPUs, the included mining-centric diagnostic features and ability to expand later probably make the price premium over less-robust boards worth it.
Once you successfully mine a block and it is included in the blockchain, you will earn ether as well as gas set for that block, which is the computational cost of mining that block. As a miner, you’ll always target blocks with more gas allocated because it is more profitable. The amount of ether you get for gas is computed as gas used multiplied by gas price.
If you can be clear about what exactly do you mean by RX cards speed problem that would be helpful. And, when you post in 2018 that and RX 580 is getting 18 MH/s and falling fast, what is this information based off of.
The Titan Xp can be overclocked to 42 MH/s, but it will consume 300 W when pushed that hard. It achieves an excellent hash rate without too much expenditure of power. Meanwhile, its top-end AMD rival, the RX Vega 64, achieves a very similar performance for about half the price.
CoinWarz credits Genesis Mining for making their new calculator possible. In a partnership with the company, Genesis Mining “helped and sponsored development” of the Ether mining profitability calculator. Genesis was one of the first companies to offer Ether cloud mining projects, and CoinWarz says the firm has “worked to publicize Ethereum to the mainstream public and offer services that are invaluable to its users.”
I’m very happy with the mining service provided by Genesis Mining. When I signed up I paid via wire transfer and the payment was processed quickly such that mining started as soon as possible. The Web interface is clear an nice and payouts are done swiftly as well. All in all a very nice way to mine some crypto currencies!
In conclusion – cloud mining contracts will suite for people not willing to take the technical risk, upkeeping, learning and more – cloud contracts kind of gives the feeling – throw a money and watch it grow. On the other hand, you must do your homework and research before putting a significant amount of money into cloud mining contracts, there are a lot of scam and ponzi schemes out there.
The power cost of this card is about $0.43 per day which is significantly lower than both the aforementioned Radeon GPUs. Moreover, it requires a power consumption of just 150W – half that of the R9 7990. For this card, the cost per MH/s at $7.96. This GPU features an 8GB GDDR5 RAM.
While this GPU is not as powerful in terms of hash-power when compared to the aforementioned Radeon R9 295X2 and Radeon R9 HD 7990 processors, it is still very popular because of the fact that it is the most economic options for mining Ethereum. It comes with a slower hash-power of 25 MH/s but saves a lot when it comes to electricity.
Founded in 2014, WageCan is a Taiwan-based company that offers cryptocurrency-related services, including cards and wallets. HashCan is a Bitcoin cloud mining service provided by WageCan, allowing users to mine cryptocurrencies without having to set up and host the mining hardware itself.
I am in the peocess of ordering parts for a good 6 card mining rig. What is the best GPU card i can get now that uses the least amount of power? What is your email? Maybe you could send me an updated list for 2018? Or are all the parts still basically the same as your first list? Thank you so much for all this help!!! ?
Energy-efficient What You Need For An Energy-Efficient Gaming PC What You Need For An Energy-Efficient Gaming PC Gaming computers are some of the most powerful consumer PCs on the market. Though beefy dual-processor workstations exist, they’re for work rather than play. People who buy a powerful computer for personal use usually do… Read More cryptocurrency mining saves you money, saves the planet, and can make you money. The trick is to maximize your hash rate per watt or reduce your system’s overall energy footprint. Here are the components and configuration settings needed to maximize your computer’s energy efficiency for mining the cryptocurrency Ethereum.
However, the cost of mining is far from free in this modern day digital gold rush. Hardware costs and energy consumption represent real financial commitment. Regardless, if you build your own systems or are a PC enthusiast, there’s a good chance you have the spare parts lying around to slap a mining rig together and get cracking.
This is an extremely inaccurate measure of future projected profits. Ethereum’s difficulty is exponentially growing and soon (6 months time) many of us are not going to be able to reach the hashrate possible to escape velocity of mining operating costs.
Building an Ethereum mining rig is a long term investment. Things like power consumption, GPU and price of Ethereum will all affect your bottom line in Ether mining. We recommend checking out an Ethereum mining calculator before starting.
Being that new to BTC mining I can not say allot. yet from all the time and due diligence of reading reviews for the mining services. I am impressed with sources from CNN News and many the positive remarks from Redit and CoinDesk. best I can say is keep up the good works! I will be watching and thank you for the services. -BW-
With the current challenging era, most of the investment exist on the basis of fiat currency, is sometimes worthless. Yet, Bitcoin came on to aid, by providing new currency which are more stable. To get Bitcoins, one have to mine, but mining is not an easy task to do right now. So, Genesis-Mining came to help those people who want to mine Bitcoins without having to concern about noises, electricity bills, and place to mine their Bitcoin. Genesis-Mining is one of the best (or maybe the best) cloud mining site with consistent daily payouts, and value for money!
GPU   Graphical Processing Unit, a GPU (or commonly just referred to as a graphics card) was previously the dominant way of Bitcoin mining. It was way beyond the efficiency of a CPU and plenty common among computer users to gain widespread adoption. With the increase in the difficulty it has recently become too inefficient for most to continue mining with GPUs as their electric bills now compete with the value they generate. Sorry for the long reply, but here are devices that do what the website i sent you do to your exact site instead of the average of the zip code used. The first one i list is one that i used when i taught PV (photovotaic) system design classes at the local community college. Honestly, the website gives a solid number that can be adjusted to fit the locality better and i am always happy to help with anything like this since i have 7 years of PV design experience:

The hash rate of the RX 460 is reported to be around 11 mega-hashes per second (MHS). With a “peak” wattage consumption of 75 watts, that translates to 0.147 MHS/W. The 470 produces a hash rate of around 25 MHS with a power consumption of around 120 watts for 0.208 MHS/W. Of the two, the 470 offers better efficiency per watt. But the 460 is easier to deploy on low-cost, low-end systems. And the 470 costs a great deal more on secondary markets. More or less, the 470 is running for well over $350 on eBay, whereas you can still get a 460 for around $100.
