We are going to be using the very popular Claymore Miner.  Get the current version here from Claymore’s original Bitcointalk thread and download the current version from the Google or Mega download links he provides (don’t use other people’s links).  The current version as of the time of this writing is 9.6 and you’ll want to get the Catalyst and Cuda version (not the Linux version).
There is much beauty in purchasing and setting up your own hardware, we know that. But it’s for those who are technically very skilled, can solve tricky complications, and generally see the fun in maintaining a complex construction rather than in earning profit with it. For most people these are annoying, unnecessary difficulties, and our solution is targeted exactly at them. To put it simple, our service is providing a better mining experience at a lower bitcoin mining cost.
Another popular choice when it comes to Graphic Processing Units for mining Ethereum, the Radeon R9 HD 7990 used to be the biggest name till the R9 295X2 came along. This device is still in use by many users but the biggest drawback it offers is that it comes with a slightly higher price but offers a lower hash-power. Nevertheless, the R9 HD 7990 is still one of the best GPUs to mine Ethereum.
The PandaMiner B5 Plus is a brilliantly put together miner that’s compact and attractive, while also being excellent at making profits when mining for cryptocurrencies. However, it is very expensive, and due to its popularity it can often be sold out. Luckily Pandaminer has a number of different models to choose from.
@AlBoKa Thats more than half of profit. Good thing ether is not as power hungry as other coins. You can downvolt, downclock and still minor decrease on hashing speed. Just find the sweetspot. Happy Mining.
Click on “next” and you will be redirected to the “configure security group” screen. It is important that you upgrade the security settings and choose “My IP” under the tag “Source”. By doing so, only you (i.e., your IP) will be able to launch the instance. Indeed, you do not want all the internet to be able to launch your instance!!
We are going to build a rig using eight graphics cards, either NVIDIA or AMD. Eight is the perfect number in this case, as Windows works well with 8 GPUs, and motherboard with slots for 8 GPUs don’t cost that much. You can always buy a motherboard with slots for up to thirteen cards, but its price is higher than the eight slot version, and you’d have to install Linux to use it. That’s why we recommend 8 GPUs.
Etherem mining uses hard hashing techniques to mine the blocks, so a computer with a good or decent GPU and a good amount of graphics card is required. GPU can prove to be a good deal for Ethereum miners. GPU mining is energy-efficient and we do not have to worry about the systems storage.
Constant hash power for a fixed two-year price? No hassling with hardware? Easy setup? Start mining instantly? Where do I sign up?! Oh, right here! Did I mention that they have a great support team with prompt responses? Crypto mining doesn’t get any simpler than this. Genesis Mining is a no-brainer.
Interest and support for cryptocurrencies is growing as you can see in the FT, Mashable and the BBC. As support for Ethereum grows and demand increase the price of Ether will rise making Ether mining more profitable.
Power related fees can be another obstacle; billing practices and procedures vary in regards to electricity, exceedingly more between different countries, but pricing is commonly calculated in kilowatts per hour. Ideally, having no or low energy costs would be preferable, renewable energy comes to mind, as do other shadowy options (miners in less regulated communities often siphon off of the grid directly, what basically amounts to mining with no overhead).
Furthermore, managing equipment can prove highly laborsome, particularly because skilled technician are few and far between. Repairs can crop up regularly, and changes in mining clients and software/hardware configurations constantly demand attention. Maintenance fees can end up eating away at larger and larger percentages of daily profits.
Great article, wish you would take it a step further and play with tuning the system to see how significant of a change you might be able to dial in. Also, In regards to heat, maybe it makes sense not to mine during the summer cooling months, but run it 7-9 months out of the year were the heat it produced would not be wasted completely? I understand it’s not the most efficient way to heat a house, but, at least your not doubling down on your costs?
Interesting blog. I was about to post a similair post. The decision to buy a coin should be based on real analysis of the coin. I found that people keep buying coins without have any knowledge of them. This is considered high risk. I was wondering if anyone of you uses: https://www.coincheckup.com. Every single coin can be analysed here based on: the team, the product, advisors, community, the business and the business model and much more. Go to: https://www.coincheckup.com/coins/Zcash#analysis To check Zcash Research report.
Every ten minutes or so mining computers collect a few hundred pending bitcoin transactions (a “block”) and turn them into a mathematical puzzle. The first miner to find the solution announces it to others on the network. The other miners then check whether the sender of the funds has the right to spend the money, and whether the solution to the puzzle is correct. If enough of them grant their approval, the block is cryptographically added to the ledger and the miners move on to the next set of transactions (hence the term “blockchain”). The miner who found the solution gets 25 bitcoins as a reward, but only after another 99 blocks have been added to the ledger. All this gives miners an incentive to participate in the system and validate transactions. Forcing miners to solve puzzles in order to add to the ledger provides protection: to double-spend a bitcoin, digital bank-robbers would need to rewrite the blockchain, and to do that they would have to control more than half of the network’s puzzle-solving capacity. Such a “51% attack” would be prohibitively expensive: bitcoin miners now have 13,000 times more combined number-crunching power than the world’s 500 biggest supercomputers.
My single most important piece of advice to miners is to make sure you have a near 100% uptime, because if your miner shuts down while you at school, work, overnight, or while you’re on holiday you will lose out on gaining a large portion of your profits. One of the ways to secure your stability is to have safe overclocks, and by testing your rigs. Instability can often be caused by too high of an overclock, or by faulty risers. I also highly recommend the EthOS Linux Distro. EthOS is an operating system specifically made for mining Ethereum and other cryptos alike, such as ZCash, Monero, and many more. The OS is extremely stable and if your rig crashes, the OS will boot up and start mining straight away. The OS also supports up to 16 AMD or NVidia graphics card, which is a huge step up from Windows, which supports a maximum of 8.
Solo Mining – Solo mining means its you against the rest. If your hash is correct you win the block reward. But with a rig of 60 MH/s and a network hashing power of 1.2 GH you aren’t going to get ether very often. The other issue is you have to download the blockchain for yourself. See our guide here on how to solo mine ethereum.
While it is too early to remark on the Monero contract in great detail – as I just purchased it, I am very satisfied with my early experience with Genesis Mining. My questions were addressed with informative and thoughtful responses. The user experience is intuitive. I have already recommended Genesis Mining to friends and family members. Moreover, I have upped my investment as I feel that I am working with a team that values integrity.
No deposit is returned to customer by genesis-mining.com. If you buy a 2 year contract you will earn your money back in some time plus some profit. Use our calculators for this answer. But when the contract is finished no money will be earned after. It is like a bus ticket. When the journey is finished no money given back:)
GPU stands for Graphic Processing Unit. Most high end machines come with high-end GPUs these days. Basically this is a dedicated processor in your computer which handles graphics processing, thereby taking the load off your CPU which will perform actual computational tasks while the GPU takes care of the graphics.
While all the above contribute significantly to the success of the project, it is equally important to manage the daily operations efficiently. With our own in-house monitoring and alerting platform, we can efficiently manage a large amount of servers with minimal staff per shift. In case of any server failure, the system sends an alert and we can recover the server with minimal downtime. It also provides us with valuable insight and analytical data to further improve the efficiency of the cooling and power consumption.
Not too many things done on day five. Again, we have had to wait for comment to get dry. In the meanwhile, we have continued the work on the shelves. Note: that guy on the photos is definitely not me ?
Now that you have all the information you need to start mining Ethereum, the sky is the limit on what type and how many rigs you have.  Do you want to stick being a beginner or do you want to become a farmer? ?  Building mining rigs are computer nerd’s version of building a car.  It is extremely satisfying and as we know rewarding. Make sure wherever you plan on running the mining rig to have enough air flow.  GPUs running at 100% 24/7 generate a ton of heat!
I have ZERO computer skills, and I am sorry if this question come across as stupid but I truly don’t have a clue how this all works. Do you happen to have directions for putting this together? Also, when everything is put together do I just turn it on and start mining? I am sure that I will need software to work this but do you know where I can get the software needed to run these? I am so sorry that I am asking noob questions, but I seem to always have more questions that keep popping up.
The latest news in the Bitcoin space is one that has been in the making for four years: the Winklevoss’ twins Bitcoin ETF will soon be accepted, or rejected, by the Securities and Exchange Commission (the SEC). This decision will leave ripples in Bitcoin’s history, and it’s the first step to legitimizing Bitcoin’s acceptance with the general public.
Difficulty is likely to continue its established rising trend (and could spike on the release of more efficient GPUs) and price is extremely unpredictable (and may crash if the market dislikes Ethereum’s solution to its on-going DAO crisis). Further, Ethereum is scheduled to switch to a Proof of Stake model at some unspecified date, meaning it will no longer be mineable.
But, here is a good trick that keeps me going – When I mine Ethereum I do not sell it immediately I wait till the prices of Ethereum has gone up. By this way, my return of investment is met very early.
Building an Ethereum mining rig is really like growing your own money tree.  The rig will run and crank away and create wealth (in digital currency) while you sit back and reap the rewards.  It takes a little tech savviness but anyone can learn how to build their own rigs.
We recommended for two months straight over the summer that people that want to minimize the risks involved with investing in the cryptocurrency space should consider getting into Ethereum mining, but that it might be a bit late in the game to set up a rig considering the many unknowns in the industry. Those that got in early and have remained steadfast in keeping their rigs online since then have made really decent gains, especially if they had many rigs or GPUs to maximize their profits.
