It is strange, yes. I thought that too. At some point I abandoned the Claymore and started WinMiner just to see in the command prompt that… its using Claymore 9.7 Beta. It connected and started mining from the WinMiner pools. In a few hours I tried again the newest Claymore and it connected to mine ETH.
1080s are not great for ethereum mining since they use a different kind of memory. The 1070ti do use the DDR5 that the ethereum mining software is optimized for. Still, bang for your buck-wise, plain 1070s or 1060s 6gb are probably the way to go.

Here’s a little introduction. Part one of the project is already completed – I’ve got a plan, a great team and a place where we can start equipping the workshop. With the amount of mining variation, you’ll want to calculate your power cost per day and compare that to the estimated return per day when picking out a miner.

My personal recommendation is to keep full control of your wallets and not in the exchanges since exchanges can be hacked and you run the risk of losing your coins forever. You should also keep your coins in an offline storage for maximum security. A useful multi-wallet application which I recommend is the Jaxx Blockchain Wallet. You can store many different types of coins here including popular ones such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. This wallet also gives you full control of your private keys in case you want to move your wallet out of Jaxx. The Jaxx wallet also has mobile apps which allows you to take your cryptos with you anywhere. The Ledger Nano S is another useful multi-wallet, however it is a hardware wallet, so you will have to spend an extra portion of your budget on this. Though it does payoff with increased security.
And then once unlocked you can scroll down and see “Your Address” – this is your Ethereum Wallet address that we will use for mining.  Save it to a separate notepad text file and save it on your Desktop for easy access (Note: it’s okay to share this address as this is how people will send you Ether and how you will receive your mining payouts, but Never share your Private Key!).

The good news is that getting started with Ethereum Mining is now easier than ever.  You do not need to download the full Ethereum blockchain, which is now over 20+ GB’s and still growing!  You also do not need to manage clunky command line miners with manual instructions.
As mentioned make sure your power supply unit can handle the Graphics cards and that you have risers capable of placing extra GPU’s in a safe location. Make sure all the connections are in nicely and everything is held together firmly.
Another issue you can have with your graphics cards and your motherboard is that they just won’t all fit in together nicely because of the spacing on the motherboard between the PCI Express slots. Fear not – you can use a GPU riser that is basically an extension cable for a PCI Express slot. Some graphics cards are really quite bulky so be careful when you are making your selection. You can get a riser here.
Ever since I’m building new cryptocurrency mining rigs I’m including SSD rather than HDD. The reason is SSD is fast and by using SSD I would increase the transfer speed and decrease the time. Also, other things that I think about SSD are – They use less power consuming and also if you are starting up your mining rig the boot time is reduced and soon you will be mining.

So, once geth has finished its synchronisation with the blockchain, you have to generate a new account. This will be your “wallet”, which will store the ether you mine. Your wallet will be stored in the hidden folder ~/.ethereum (in the /keystore subfolder). In the same folder you will find the files of the blockchain.
One measure of AC efficiency is EER. It’s a measure of cooling capacity (in BTU per hour) by input power (W). A typical AC unit might have a EER of 10. If you convert the units, that’s 2.9 W of heat removed per watt of power consumption by the unit. So your cooling costs would result in an extra ~33% on your power bill, not an extra 100% (double).
