“ethereum mining on linux vs windows”

Even with your hardware, geth, and Ethminer set up, you’re unlikely to be able to actually mine ether on your own. The reason for this is that your device will simply not be able to compete with the hash rates of much larger systems and networks of miners. For that reason, most ethereum miners join a mining pool. By pooling together computational power, these miners increase their chances of solving block puzzles and thus earning ether. At the same time, the profitability for each individual goes down, as the profits are split proportionally, with those miners able to provide more computing power receiving a greater share.
Carefull, as you can see in the displayed image in my case, I have on this mining rig 7 GPU’s enabled. The first one is an INTEGRATED GPU and it’s ID is -p0 , all others are mining gpu’s (p1,…p6). So if you have your integrated GPU disabled or for some reason you use a motherboard that does not have it, then your mining GPU id’s start from p0, but you can see the GPU’s order as displayed in the picture below. The GPU’s order in OverdriveNtool is the same as in the GPU-Z and Claymore 11.2.
AWS does it’s customers a big favor by implementing limits to the number of instances that can be deployed per Region and by Instance Type. This is to prevent new users from accidentally provisioning a huge number of expensive Instances and digging themselves into an accidental financial hole.
This template exercises some cool features from CloudFormation to select the appropriate instance types, deal with multiple regions, and boot-strap the instances with your provided parameters. If there is interest in a separate article to break down how this template works then let me know in the Responses!
You can create a decred wallet at Bittrex. It’s a very good trading site featuring a lot of altcoins including decred. You can cash out your decred at your account page in supernova, under “My Account” -> “Edit Account” -> “Payment Address” and you need to type your bittrex address there. And now you just need to set “Automatic Payout Threshold” to your desired value, I use 0.5 as my payout cap. I convert my mined decred to ethereum at  a bittrex exchange site, and store my value like that. It’s safe if you use a 2FA (authenticator).
Now that your miner is set up, you’re able to sit back and watch as your video cards gain you passive income every month in the form of Ethereum. It is important to consider any variable costs that you may incur during the mining to determine your profitability. Variable costs may be electrical costs, maintenance costs, pool fees, dev fees, exchange fees, etc.
With this setup, you’d find on average around 0.5Eth per month. This will change depending on the Ethereum Mining Difficulty, you can use the website WhatToMine to make calculations of your earnings or find other profitable coins to mine.
Ethereum’s Ethash algorithm is one of many algorithms designed for optimal on GPUs. Generally speaking, a GPU is good for mining all GPU-mineable cryptocurrency (including Ethereum Classic, Monero, Zcash, and Vertcoin). This situation gives GPU miners enviable flexibility, in order to be able to switch between over 40 coins that are based on their current profitability.
A ‘position’ is the term used to describe a trade in progress. A long position means a trader has bought currency expecting the value to increase. Once the trader sells that currency back to the market (ideally for a higher price than he paid), his long position is said to be ‘closed’ and the trade is complete.
Set the GPU core to 1100 Mhz and then to 1200 Mhz (don’t forget to apply, save profile and then run the overclock.bat) to see the difference in hashrate and the power draw from the wall. (if you see no difference in hashrate after chaning GPU core clock rate you need to restart your PC, sometimes if you change overclock/undervolt a lot it will stop making changes)
Large hedge funds and other well capitalized “position traders” are the main professional speculators. According to some economists, individual traders could act as “noise traders” and have a more destabilizing role than larger and better informed actors.[83]
On 1 January 1981, as part of changes beginning during 1978, the People’s Bank of China allowed certain domestic “enterprises” to participate in foreign exchange trading.[51][52] Sometime during 1981, the South Korean government ended Forex controls and allowed free trade to occur for the first time. During 1988, the country’s government accepted the IMF quota for international trade.[53]
This is necessary in order to adjust for the value of the coins you will be receiving from mining. The coin value changes DRASTICALLY on any given day, so this single input can swing the mining profits significantly.
In April 2010, trading in the United Kingdom accounted for 36.7% of the total, making it by far the most important centre for foreign exchange trading in the world. Trading in the United States accounted for 17.9% and Japan accounted for 6.2%.[58]
MinerGate will display a message to say that ‘smart mining’ has been activated. The MinerGate Mining Pool will automatically try to use your computer’s resources to mine cryptocurrency in the most profitable way.
Once you’re mining, make sure you watch your rig. The first 24-48hours are essential and will determine if your system is stable or not. If it runs without problems during that period, then you should be fine. I’d recommend staying within reachable distance of your rig during this time as all sorts of issues can occur, and if you’re extremely unlucky, you could end up burning a building down.
Set up SSH: If you’re going to set up SSH, there are two important things you need to do. Firstly, set up port forwarding on your router, so that traffic redirects to your rig. Secondly, use the below commands, to change the SSH port to something different e.g. 2221. While this won’t stop an attack if there is a port scan, it will reduce the possibility of an attack by a crawler. You can also consider using private & public keys to 100% ensure that only you can access the rig.
Crypto-currency mining payout is a very unpredictable process if you mine independently, so the instances in my CloudFormation template participate in a Mining Pool. You can think of a Mining Pool as a co-op of miners. To simplify, being a part of this pool allows you to receive consistent payout for your mining work. The pool these instances join is called nanopool and their website allows you to easily track your mining progress.
Buterin and Joseph Poon (a co-author of Bitcoin’s lightning network whitepaper) announced in 2017 their plan to launch a scaling solution called Plasma which creates “child” blockchains to the “main” parent blockchain.[117] The plasma project has skeptics; specifically, Vlad Zamfir (Ethereum’s lead researcher on proof of stake) has publicly questioned the plasma project’s viability.[117]

  1. Before you go ahead and mine Ethereum, make sure you have a specialized computer hardware that is meant for full time dedicated mining. Different kinds of mining hardware such as GPUs and CPUs are available in the market. Earlier, CPU devices were used for mining Ethereum. But nowadays, you require a mining rig, which is comprised of numerous GPUs. GPUs have a higher hash rate, and can solve equations faster.
In order to store cypto-currencies you need a digital wallet. There are lots of ways to create a wallet for Ethereum, but I’ll show you one that I think will be accessible to almost everyone. Download the Jaxx Blockchain Wallet from your favorite App Store.
Before you decide that you’d like to start mining for ethereum, you first need to decide if it is going to be profitable for you. At first glance, it’s going to be incredibly easy, but you should know that mining is going to be a lot like trading stocks.
Sparing you the details, my plan failed. It turns out that trading 300k lots on a $10,000 account is not very forgiving. I lost 20% of my account in 3 weeks. I didn’t know what hit me. Something was wrong. Luckily, I stopped trading at that point and was fortunate enough to land a job at a Forex broker, FXCM. I spent the next couple of years working with traders around the world and continued to educate myself about the Forex market. It played a huge role in my development to be the trader I am today. 3 years of profitable trading later, it’s been my pleasure to join the team at DailyFX and help people become successful or more successful traders.
Mist also contains Geth, a popular command line interface. You may choose to get only the latest Geth app for your system, it’s able to perform all the functions of Mist (and more) from the command line. Geth (an abbreviation for “go-ethereum”) allows you and your miner to interact more directly with the Ethereum network but Geth definitely requires some programming knowledge.
