You’re attributing much too broad a brush to people. There are plenty of reasons to keep around leftover computer parts, other than sentimentality. You might want a backup incase your new hardware gets damages, is a lemon, etc. You might hang on to some stuff because you’ve got friends or family that might want it when they finally decide to ditch their current dinosaurs.
I have only been doing this a little over a week, but have seen real deposits of ZEC going into my accounts daily – and so far in amounts that are profitable. I noticed some Genesis Mining identified deposits to others on My Ether Wallet a while back and realized that a lot of people used this service to get started in acquisition of coin. It is great so far.
Mining is intentionally designed to be resource-intensive and difficult so that the number of blocks found each day by miners remains steady. Individual blocks must contain a proof of work to be considered valid. This proof of work is verified by other Bitcoin nodes each time they receive a block. Bitcoin uses the hashcash proof-of-work function.
If you’re into Linux, Eth OS is a 64-bit Linux OS that mines Ethereum, Zcash, Monero, and other GPU-minable coins.  If you’re a windows guy, here is Windows 10.  If you’re going to be using Windows, you’ll need mining software.  Take a look at this Ethereum Mining on a Windows PC guide.
Place plastic standoffs on the bottom of your plastic crate, and rest your motherboard on top of them. Make sure that all of the essential ports are accessible (SATA, USB, keyboard, mouse, etc). Use your knife to cut away pieces of the crate if necessary so that all ports you plan to use are exposed. Then plug your riser cables into the PCI-E slots of your motherboard.
AMD and Nvidia are the two biggest manufacturers of graphics card unit (GPU). In the early days of GPU mining, AMD cards were much more efficient for cryptocurrency mining than Nvidia cards and they were the go-to option for dedicated miners. More recent Nvidia cards are designed to work in optimized fashion and they match or even exceed the performance of AMD cards.
Us mere mortals wouldn’t have an R9 290X level of card lying idle. Heck, suppose we do have unused GPU it would be something from 2 gen before it and a mainstream oran entry level card of its time at that, at the very least.
It’s not gonna plateau. What all the stores being sold out means, is that a shit load of gpu’s are being bought straight through the major suppliers for large farms, and new cards are going online just as fast as they are being made. What you proposed would be true if production was down, but it’s not. What we’d want to see is cards cathering dust on the shelves at retail stores. What’s happening right now is the worst possible realistic screnario when it comes to the difficulty.
There are several providers who offer cloud-based mining. Hashgains offer you a one year contract and from then there is no maintenance fee for you to bother about. In the cloud, you have guaranteed uptime of nearly 100 percent. Even if one miner goes offline for some reason, your provider will automate them on the other active machines.
OK, so that sounds like a pretty serious error, the card is halting its mining operation for some reason. It could be overheating or experiencing some other kind of hardware or software error. Can you find the log file? Reading it would probably reveal why the card is giving problems. I believe adding the “-dbg 1” switch will create a log file which will help for troubleshooting.

I haven’t designed a system in a few years but the physics and principles don’t change, just the products. To design a full system, all that is needed after figuring out the insolation hours for your spot is how much energy per day on average you want the system to cover. Since solar can last 25+ years (solar panel warrantees and inverters have 25 year warrantees), i would add aging factors to the equation to get a system that should produce well for 20 years at least (prob not needed for mining though honestly).
Nvidia’s latest flagship card, the Titan V, is a real beast. It uses a new type of graphics processor named Volta, which is also found in Tesla accelerators. The card is intended for serious number- crunching (such as machine learning, AI, and high-performance computing (HPC) applications).
You do not need to buy any kind of extra PSU and that will be a total waste of money. You can purchase a splitter that will work – http://www.parallelminer.com/product/18awg-pci-e-6pin-to-dual-8-pin-y-splitter-extension-cable-2x-62pin-cable-6in-each-side/ . Let me know this helped.
There is also work being done on Ethereum, which may move it from a “proof of work” to a “proof of stake” set-up. If this happens, it will result in an exponential rise in block difficulty that will make blocks virtually impossible to solve.
I have purchased a 60MH/s Litecoin contract. The first payout was worth about $3.60. At this rate I should get my investment back in about 220 days, which is good, considering that the contract runs 730 days. This means 510 days of pure profit. I think it is a pretty good deal (lets hope Litecoin goes up further!).
HashFlare has been involved with cryptocurrencies since the inception of Bitcoin and has years of experience in the field of mining cryptocurrencies. This Estonian company is now also offering Ethereum mining plans with no maintenance fees. Also, the minimum order amount and the hash rate is very low (100 KH/s with the price of 2.2 USD), so you can start with low investment and see how it goes. Use Hashflare discount code 2018 HF17QWL22TR4 for a 4% discount (over 1000$ only).
“After hearing about the cryptocurrency industry I wanted to get involved. Buying a plug & play rig from CoinMiner was the simplest and easiest way. Excellent decision as I’m making money from day 1!”
Bottom line, if there is interest, if there is people to provide to a network, there will always be an incentive. Platforming a new blockchain tech to the enthusiast community is and will continue to be the bridge/stepping stone. Is there GPU life after Ether? Most certainly, there is a lot of investment in GPU farms these days, as some would say, follow the hashrate.
We will note that your rig won’t have a power button so you’ll need to jump the power switch pins on the motherboard. We used a screw driver to tap the pins to start the rig, but you could also buy a power button.
I myself was very curious about this type of thing and hope to see more articles of it’s kind (to me more Hardware related than the numerous game reviews). One thing you did not mention however, is you could theoretically mine at break even, and if the Eth value explodes, discover your profit at that juncture. I guess that would make you more a speculator than a miner though?
A: You can use any ETH wallet address for mining, but some exchanges do not allow mining or do not allow very small deposits so double check with the site if mining directly to a web-deposit address.  A good alternative to downloading the full Mist wallet and Ethereum blockchain is MyEtherWallet.com, which still allows you to manage your Ether wallet address and maintain control of your private keys (which is important for security and/or wallet backup and restoration if needed).
The mining demand has driven prices well above their normal retail price, but when it comes to a relatively cheap videocards with a solid performance currently available on the market, AMD’s R9 390(X) seems to beat other cards. Even though it tends to be a relatively old card (the R9 series was introduced back in 2015), it has aged far more gracefully than the more recent RX 400 / 500 series (which launched in 2016 and 2017, respectively).
Currently you’ll need at least 3GB of dedicated video memory (VRAM) to mine Ethereum, and this VRAM requirement is expected to grow to 4GB in 2018. It’s important to note that if you are planning to mine with a GPU that doesn’t have at least 3GB of VRAM, you won’t be able to!
One of the most simple to use calculators is the Crypto Compare calculator. You simply choose the currency you would like to mine then input your hash rate along with the wattage of your system and power cost, then the website will show you what your profits are every day, along with the amount of the currency you will mine. The main problem with this site is that it does not factor in the network’s difficulty. Everyday new miners join the network, which in turn increases the difficulty. That means that if you are solo mining, you will have a lower chance of solving the block, and if you’re pool mining, this will lead lower rewards.
I’m really happy about it, sometimes payment are a little bit late but I understand. I use few bitcoins too and transactions are very long and for an short time transaction very expensive. U are doing a good job, just Continue ! Go Genesis
Prevent your system from going to sleep using power settings. You’d better do it after you have done all the rest, since it may return to default settings when you install GPU drivers. Accessing power settings is easy: Win -> Settings icon -> The first menu entry (System Settings).
The screens also provide extra security by verifying and displaying important wallet details.  The hardware wallet also supports a wide support of coins (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Zcash, Dash, Stratis) and most importantly an attractive price tag.  HOW TO SETUP AND CONFIGURE A LEDGER NANO S
The Radeon RX 480 is most arguably the most economical in terms of cost and saving electricity. Its power cost per day is significantly lower than the two that I have mentioned at $0.4320. Its hash rate is 25.0 MH/s, meaning its cost per MH/s is $7.96. This gives a return per day of $1.21 and therefore a return per year of $440.91. Radeon RX 480 will cost you $199.
“Cloud mining is a relatively new thing but we see that more and more people are getting interested in such service. I believe that this service has a very high impact on current bitcoin community as it allows something which was previously only available to technologically easygoing people. The more people can get involved in cryptocurrency world, the higher are the chances that this will not be something to come and go, but something to stay for a long time. I think any bitcoin enthusiast would like to live up to the day when you can use cryptocurrencies in Walmart, LIDL or Rimi.”
This post is an early bird. While I won’t charge a lot for my work, the price will also be affected by the cost of each of the individual components of the rig. Therefore, my idea is to find the best deals for each of the components. The better the deal the lower is the price of the final product. Every penny I save on the components is a penny you save on the final product. That is my policy.
Now you’re talking about difficulty increase of 100%, which with this rate is easily going to happen before summer, might even be by march. Hopefully price will increase as well, but at some point we’ll be seeing a saturated market (especially once ETH goes PoS), so your prediction here is that 12-18months payback period. While i’d not speculate more than 6-8 months in the future. Because we can’t possibly know what will happen once PoS happens.
You guys are doing a good job but you need to do something bigger that will help the planet. You need to create a new cryptocurrency based on a verifiable method of carbon dioxide sequestration which is already happening in Iceland! Do it.
Ethereum can be mined by using GPUs as the same cannot be applicable in case of Bitcoin mining. Ethereum has an ASIC resistant algorithm that facilitates use of GPUs and dedicated processors resulting in a cost efficient and user-friendly mining process.
3) Hard Drive – You need a hard drive to store your operating system and your software for mining. A standard SSD drive will do (an SSD hard drive is just a storage device and is called solid state as there aren’t moving bits which can break). The size will depend on what you are planning to do when mining. If you are planning to download the entire blockchain and mine as shown in this guide here – then you will need to take into account how big the blockchain will become and need to spend a little more. If you are just going to mine ethereum as part of a pool then you don’t need to store the blockchain and can get a smaller SSD drive. We used the SSDNow V300 120GB. Buy it here.
