I did a profitability calculation on Genesis mining DASH contract. It’s not profitable unless the mining difficulty decreases significantly. I believe there are many similarities with DASH and ETH in terms of their profitability. Here’s my foundings:

As you can monthly profits reduce by near 1/3 every month with estimated total profits plateauing at $2750 around 6 months. A far cry from the $10,000 I was predicted to make. Sadly, this is barely enough money to pay for the rig I built for mining!
The difficulty is the measure of how difficult it is to find a new block compared to the easiest it can ever be. The rate is recalculated every 2,016 blocks to a value such that the previous 2,016 blocks would have been generated in exactly one fortnight (two weeks) had everyone been mining at this difficulty. Considering that ethereum cloud mining is a service created from an almost purely business standpoint, there is understandably, a cost associated with its appliance. Lower returns are expected because of the involvement of a third party. However, for standalone mining, a more comprehensive mining rig and configuration is needed, and this calls for a substantial upfront financial expenditure.
When it comes to picking GPUs, you want the select the best bang for the buck.  You’re looking for something with high hash rate, low cost, and low power usage.  You can start with as little as 1 GPU or as much as 7 GPUs within one rig.  Normally you see 5-6 in a mining rig as 7 is incredibly hard to make stable.
I think you also brought up in an earlier convo the point that the current stock has essentially sold out worldwide, so difficulty can’t keep increasing at the current rate. If there’s no new hashing power in the world that people can purchase and put online to hash ETH, then difficulty can’t keep increasing at the current rate. This difficulty “plateau” would be necessary for the 6-8 month, or even a 12 month ROI – and I certainly hope it is the case. Of course if nvidia’s volta comes in May or AMD comes out with midrange vegas or increases the supply of polarises then people will likely soak up all the GPU’s and difficulty will increase until it’s game over and it’s not even profitable vs. electricity.

  1. I see a lot of people are having this same problem. I believe that something must have changed in the new version of Claymore which is causing this error. Can you perhaps install an older version of Claymore?
    This is what we call a get rich scheme, People thinking quick cash with no work . lol Sad to see Because alot of you are going to lose alot of money. with a few of you coming out a little ahead. None of this stuff is backed by the FDIC thats another thought to take into consideration. There is no solid gold being mined its all digital If this was going to be future proofed im sure President trump and Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Mark ZUckerburg would all be blowing the mineing pools away single handidly.
    Drill holes in your brace so that you can secure it with cable ties (see image). Do not simply rest the brace on the crate! An accidental bump can cause it to fall into the crate, along with ~$1000 worth of GPUs if you do that!
    A reasonable cost of power is approximately 10 cents per kwh. This is below the national average for retail power rates in the U.S. To run a mining rig you will likely pay at least 10 cents per 1,000 watts run for each hour. This means one full day of mining comes with an electricity cost of $2.40. We will also use the block reward and block difficulty from January of 2018 as our base point. For that reason, we’ve pick a modest 1.5 percent.
