As the price of Ethereum hovers around $300, you may be wondering to yourself whether or not it’s worthwhile to begin mining. Like Bitcoin, Ethereum is a proof-of-work coin that uses miners to confirm network transactions. The profitability of mining varies from person to person and changes over time – usually becoming less profitable as the coin matures.
If you see 0/0, the DAG probably isn’t loaded properly, or you were impatient with geth –rpc and it didn’t sync up, now you’re working on some old block, hashing away, because you didn’t sync properly.

I though that developing Ethereum ASIC would be unprofitable because of their plans to switch to PoS, but it seems like Bitmain has calculated otherwise. Maybe it will be usable to mine other coins with the same algorithm. But since it won’t be able to mine all GPU algorithms, GPU mining will still be around for a long time, so if this ASIC will take over ETH mining, current ETH miners will just switch to other coins.

Something miners started to notice was as the DAG increased in size AMD Radeon 400/500 series cards took a performance hit, whereas the GeForce 10 series and older AMD Radeon 200/300 series cards didn’t. So this may be bad news for those that snapped up Radeon RX 470/480 and Radeon RX 570/580 graphics cards. As of writing, it isn’t clear if this is simply a driver issue or a weakness of the Polaris 10 architecture. Anyway let’s take a look at the results…
The only caution I’d give is that you need to make sure you’ll profitable. Not all GPUs are very efficient and you may start using more money for power than you make. The best thing to do is research studies that have been done on GPU hash rates for Ethereum and also their corresponding wattage used.
This card has a great deal of fast VRAM, so it will ensure that it’ll be able to mine Ethereum for years to come. However, by the time the DAG increases over 10 (or even 5 or 6) GB, it’s very likely that far more efficient miners will be available. The card’s high upfront costs and considerable power draw mean that it will take some time to reach profitability.
Therefore Ethereum mining is a good investment for people to get involved in as it reduces the risks from trading in a volatile market, and is a great way of generating passive income every month. In future articles we will also address the need for overclocking and undervolting your cards to increase efficiency.
Since we are not CPU-mining, performance isn’t determined by the CPU, the RAM or the hard drive : it just has to be working well together, with an internet connexion and reasonable performances. Low-end products will be fine. However, we should pay attention to the TDP of these components, CPU first, because additional heat / electric consumption could decrease profitability. It’s a question of average consumption. Personal tip : I’ve figured out that a 2.5′ HDD – 5400rpm – from an old netbook could draw less power than a low-end SSD !

In einem Zinssystem wird das große Vermögen also immer gewaltiger, die kleinen bleiben für immer nichtig.
