As reported earlier this week in Korean news outlet The Bell, the South Korean conglomerate will produce Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) processing chips in its own foundry in a deal with Taiwanese manufacturer TSMC. Ironically, TSMC provides the ASIC chips used in Bitmain’s Antminers, but it’s new partnership with Samsung could well provide the first real competitor to Bitmain’s chip manufacturing ventures.

Initially I started testing with the go-ethereum client but started to find mixed results with certain GPUs, I wasn’t sure why that was and couldn’t solve a few issues, so I scrapped the results and moved on. Parity is another popular client, but instead I decided to use Claymore’s Dual Ethereum miner version 9.6 for a few reasons. Number one was it worked really well with the current generation AMD and Nvidia GPUs.
Even though only AMD and NVIDIA design GPUs, many companies such as ASUS. EVGA. and Gigabyte manufacture and resell GPUs. This creates competition. and prevent a single entity from controlling the market.
Also, the hashes, the mathematical puzzles that the computers must solve in order to earn Ether, keep getting harder. As time goes on, you’ll need more GPUs and more memory in order to stay competitive. In addition, more time will likely pass in between solving blocks. You might go weeks or even months before you solve your first block and earn your first 5 Ether.

Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, announced earlier this year that the Ethereum network is going to switch from a proof-of-work to a proof-of-stake framework to confirm transactions. With a proof-of-stake system, holders of Ethereum stake coins by putting them up as collateral to validate transactions. This means that miners will soon be obsolete.
One other reason is the philosophy of the Dev team and community. There is no real technical reason Bitcoin, Litecoin, and other coins that are currently being mined with ASICs couldn’t, with a switch to another POW algorithm, be put back in the hands of GPU miners. Point is, if the Dev’s and community wanted to keep a coin out of the ASIC realm, they could just change the code if/when that moment happened. A few of the lesser known coins have already did this with great success. The problem as we know with Bitcoin is there are too many big players with deep pockets that would fight tooth and nail to keep that from ever happening. They can’t even agree to a minor thing as a block size increase much less something as dramatic as changing out the POW.

Although the merit of these approaches can be debated, ultimately these figures are not as important as the ones that detail what is required to make an ASIC work. If an ASIC requires highly stable power supply, then the power supply circuitry on a board may be more expensive than for another ASIC. If the ASIC has a complex communications protocol, additional relatively expensive components may be required. If an ASIC’s die is large, fewer (rectangular slices) can be obtained from a (circular) wafer, defects affect its design dispropotionately, and cooling solutions are generally more complex compared to smaller die chips which in turn have other overhead. Chips with a BGA design are less simple to integrate than a QFN, requiring more expensive (inspection and testing) equipment.
You’ll want to work in an Ethereum Mining Pool. Think of solving block hashes as buying lottery tickets, the more computers working on a block the higher chance you have to solve. Being in a pool with thousands will give you a more consistent payout than mining alone.
Another reason for a lack of ASIC development is the possibility of Ethereum switching from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake. Proof of Stake does not require any special hardware. Miners want to avoid the scenario of investing millions of dollars in developing and manufacturing an ASIC only for it to become worthless.
Step 1: The first thing you need to do is go to this link download Geth. Geth is the program that communicates with the Ethereum Network and acts as the a relay between your computer, its hardware and the rest of the ethereum network computers so if a block is mined by another computer your Geth program will pick it up and then pass on the new information onto your GPU or CPU for mining.
Once installed, run the program and wait as the program will run a quick scan to detect your hardware and install software. Once this is complete, enter your bitcoin address in the top. This is important otherwise you will not get paid. Once you’ve inputted your bitcoin address, click on the benchmark button and start the scan. Once this is done you’re ready to start mining.
With the right GPU (an advanced GPU from AMD or Nvidia) you’ll be able to mine for Ethereum 200 times faster than you would have been able to with a CPU, and many that mine for Ethereum professionally say that the AMD GPU cards are much more efficient than the Nvidia brethren.

Navigate to your wallet folder, and open up the file “Ethereum-Wallet.exe” on your computer. Wait for Ethereum to sync. Go get some tea or something. (WARNING: The whole Ethereum blockchain has to sync, which is about a 30GB download. So most definitely get some tea while you’re waiting).
