The hash rate in the Ethereum network has been rising over the past few years.You would expect blocks to be mined faster with this rise but they are not because the network automatically adjusts difficulty so that a new block is mined at the constant time of 12 seconds. Consequently, you will always need a faster device which has a higher hash rate to mine.
The  Nvidia GTX 1070   is what I’ve been putting in all the rigs I’ve built for folks since about April of 2017 when all the AMD Rx 4 and 5 series cards sold out and doubled in price on secondary markets. It can mine at 30Mh/s while sipping only 100 watts of electricity. After testing several models, my favorite is the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 Windforce OC (model # GV-N1070WF2OC-8GD). It has a twin fan design and seems to run cooler than most of the other 1070 models I’ve tested. If that model is unavailable, any twin fan designed 1070 will work well. Blower models like the Gigabyte 1070 Founders Edition mine at the same hash rate, but need more supplemental cooling like a box fan pointed at your mining rig. I’ve linked to Amazon above, but be sure to check eBay as well for availability since Amazon often limits the number of GPU units you can purchase. 
When decided the best GPU for profitability, things take another turn and get interesting in a different way. As mentioned earlier we’re looking for the lowest wattage (lowest power consumption) card that is affordable to purchase and has a decently high hashrate. My current pick for this is the NVIDIA GTX 1060.  Many people will disagree and say the AMD RX 580.  However, of this writing I can purchase the GTX 1060 for exactly half the price of the RX 580.  This is of course due to demand. The best GPU for mining is sometimes the one you can actually acquire at any given time. Demand for the RX 580 has raised the price, making its ROI much worse.
However, a high hash rate does not guarantee profits; electricity is still a big factor. The hash rate is often denoted as mega hash per second, a million calculations in a second. It can also be labeled Giga hash, which is 1000 mega hash or terra hash; this has 1000 Giga hash.Simply put, a higher hash rate means greater mining speed.

The GTX 1060 has a hashrate of between 22-27 MH/s (Ethereum) depending on overclocking, and which memory brand is installed on your card.  The card consumes between 90 and 100 watts of electricity. It can currently be purchased for roughly $250 on Amazon and Newegg. This gives you a break-even time of 3.5 months.  Much better than a Titan V!

Proof of Work is where you have to run powerful computers that have high hash rates. Hash rates are the number of “hashes,” or numbers a computer can come up with every second, needed to solve a block. Both of types of mining have a difficulty factor to them where the more miners there are on the network, the lower the chance you have of mining a block. In other words, the lower your reward is. Here is a good website which has lots of information on the major cryptocurrencies, including their difficulties, block times, and block reward. If you want to check when the last block was mined, and who mined it, you can use this website for Bitcoin, and this one for Ethereum.
We had to exclude certain boards because they were too slow (previous-gen GeForce GTX 9-series, for example) or came up short on memory capacity (GeForce GTX 1050 2GB and Radeon RX 460 2GB). As you’ll soon see, those are important considerations, as two cards armed with the same GPU aren’t necessarily equal when it comes to mining Ethereum.

You would need to flash your GPU BIOS using Windows. I have specifically not covered this in detail as it’s risky and I do not wish to take responsibility for flashed GPUs. However, there are plenty of sites out there that show you how to do it.
Profitability: When choosing a mining pool make sure you consider the profitability of such pool. It is vital to join the mining pool that has a good amount of hashing power in the Ethereum network. If it has a high hash rate, then it has the chance of generating more blocks.

To minimize the disruptions to your mining and settings you may want to also disable Windows Updates.  If you feel more secure leaving them on, you can do so and just understand there are very frequent updates that sometimes reboot your system without you’re involvement and therefore stop your mining.

The next risk, while not severe, is power. Mining computers draw a lot of power, and depending on the size of the rig, they can easily draw upwards of 1,000 watts. Depending on where you live this could mean that you are mining at a loss everyday.
