Mining is intentionally designed to be resource-intensive and difficult so that the number of blocks found each day by miners remains steady. Individual blocks must contain a proof of work to be considered valid. This proof of work is verified by other Bitcoin nodes each time they receive a block. Bitcoin uses the hashcash proof-of-work function.
The first option is straightforward, if not a bit more expensive. Here is an example of an open-air frame that will accommodate up to 6 GPUs. Here’s another option. You’ll pay a premium going this route, but it’ll save you some time and effort.
If you are going to run your rig then you would need an excellent and supported power supply unit. We are now going with EVGA Super Nova which will supply 1200W. No doubt we will only need 1000W but we can be on the safer side with the use of 1200W.
This indicator actually shows how many puzzles a GPU can solve within a second under perfect mining conditions with Claymore 9.6, but without any overclocking. The most ‘real’ hashrate is the rate calculated over a very long period, i.e. 24 hours.
If you only want to use 3-4 GPUs in your rig, then you’ll have a much easier time. Most boards with up to four PCIe slots should accommodate a GPU in each. Keep in mind that you can use old hardware that you have sitting around—the board doesn’t have to be recent. I dug out an old ASRock 970 Extreme4 that I used four years ago for litecoin mining, and it still works fine today for up to 4 GPUs (5 is possible with some work). So it’s possible to pick up an ancient board on eBay/Craigslist for nearly nothing and mine with less than 6 video cards.
The estimated kilowatt hours on the rig should be around 720 assuming that you under clocked it. If it’s not under clocked, it will probably be around a 1000 or more. Remember each card can consume anywhere from 150-250 watts depending on the clock settings, so its safe to assume its going to be greater than less. If you have anymore questions, let me know!
“Time is critical, very critical,” in mining, Marco Streng, chief executive of Genesis Mining, a major ethereum miner, told Quartz. “For example, we are renting entire airplanes, Boeing 747s, to ship on time. Anything else, like shipping by sea, loses so much opportunity.”
We also give a wealth of other information – such as the expected return per year – the 174% above means the contract will pay you back your initial investment of $899 dollars and give you a return of 74% on top. We also show you the cost per MH/s, the return per week, month and year – all depending on the network hash rate which is 628 GH/s and exchange rate of $2.12 – these can vary a lot so the returns that we show can vary a lot – these are just best guesstimates using our data – which we take a lot of pride was not nearly as easy as I just made it sound though. I bought it and it was quite the exercise just to put it together. I had never built a computer before, so I got to learn how everything goes together and in the process of debugging it I also got to learn what matters and what does not.
Hi, You don’t need any kind of extra PSU and the PSU does not matter.. For FTW you need extra Splitter which you can find here – http://www.parallelminer.com/product/18awg-pci-e-6pin-to-dual-8-pin-y-splitter-extension-cable-2x-62pin-cable-6in-each-side/
Mine altcoins like UBQ ETH ETC ZEC XMR. Here’s a hardware stack-up of mining rig components to consider while mining Ethereum-based altcoins. Items present have been specifically chosen to work together in order to simplify the task of building your mining rig.
Great article, wish you would take it a step further and play with tuning the system to see how significant of a change you might be able to dial in. Also, In regards to heat, maybe it makes sense not to mine during the summer cooling months, but run it 7-9 months out of the year were the heat it produced would not be wasted completely? I understand it’s not the most efficient way to heat a house, but, at least your not doubling down on your costs?
If your break-even time is 0 you have likely forgotten to input your hardware cost below. If it is never, your break-even time has been calculated to be greater than 10 years. This is likely due to a large diff change value which causes your predicted profitability to turn negative in the future. You could try lowering the diff change for a less agressive prediction or disable it altogether.
Ethereum is distributed among a public blockchain, much like Bitcoin, but it has a completely different blockchain protocol than Bitcoin. Bitcoin’s blockchain is based on proof of work (PoW), while Ethereum’s blockchain is soon to become based on proof of stake (PoS).
I would normally recommend using an Intel Atom motherboard. Unfortunately, no consumer-class Atom board offers full-sized PCIe x16 ports. Also, there’s some confusion regarding how much power the PCIe slot produces. According to its specifications, a PCIe x16 slot can deliver around 75 watts. That should be enough to handle the 75-watt draw of the 460, but some 460 manufacturers include an optional 6-pin connector — for added safety.
13 GPU Nvidia Rig running under Ubuntu 16 (eth hash rate: 300+Mh/s @ 1000W for whole rig): 3x EVGA GTX 1060 3Gb (24MH/s @ 65W) + 6x MSI Armor GTX 1060 3Gb (24MH/s @ 70W) + 1x MSI GTX 1060 (24Mh/s @ 65W) + 3x Zotac GTX 1060 (24MH/s @ 65 W). PSU 2400W, Asrock ASRock H110 Pro BTC+, cheap Chinese risers, Kingston SSD 120Gb, 8Gb memory.
Amazing article! I have been curious for quite awhile on not only how to mine DogeCoin but what it even was. Now I can sleep at night haha! I don’t think this will hold up as a currency (internet or not) quite as well as BitCoin will but it’s still interesting and looks like fun!
