With Ethereum, the door is opened wider as only GPUs can be used to mine. In order to have any hash rate that is comparable to an ASIC miner, you’d have to string together dozens of GPUs. This creates an ecosystem that is more balanced and prevents consolidation of power. To be more technical, Ethereum mining requires more RAM than an ASIC miner can provide since ASIC mining is actually CPU mining, not GPU mining.
One other oft-mentioned number statistic for an ASIC chip is the number of cores or hashing engines that are on the chip. this number is directly related to performance, it is not necessarily a comparitive relation.
The goal here is for the network of miners and nodes to take responsibility for transferring the shift from state to state, rather than some authority such as PayPal or a bank. Bitcoin miners validate the shift of ownership of bitcoins from one person to another. The EVM executes a contract with whatever rules the developer initially programmed.
There is a decent amount of math, risk, and trial/error involved in optimizing your setup to get every last hash out of your graphics cards, but this guide is a basic setup for mining with Windows 7, not a performance-maximizing guide.
If all of  your GPU’s on the RIG are the same, you can try to apply the profile settings that worked for the first GPU to the next GPU and test if it works, then try to adjust the small settings to reduce memory errors if you get them. It’s possible that the same GPU with the same settings will crash the PC or cause a freeze, that’s why you test one GPU at a time.
The Titan Xp can be overclocked to 42 MH/s, but it will consume 300 W when pushed that hard. It achieves an excellent hash rate without too much expenditure of power. Meanwhile, its top-end AMD rival, the RX Vega 64, achieves a very similar performance for about half the price.
The concept behind cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and Bitcoin is that individuals generate and transfer them, without the reliance on any central authorities like governments or traditional banks. The appeal of cryptocurrency, at least in part, is that you can use a standard PC for mining. Ethereum, as well as many other cryptocurrencies, use memory hard-hashing methods, which is why having one of the best mining GPUs with a decent amount of graphics memory is needed.
Looking at the RX 470, we can do some quick math ($175 / (211 GB/s) ) to see that it costs $0.82 per GB/s.  Compared to a single GDDR5 chip (e.g. Micron EDW4032BABG), which costs $6.83 and has a bandwidth of 24 GB/s, we can do better at $0.28 per GB/s.  So, if we can build custom chip (either ASIC or FPGA) than can interface with 9 GDDR5 chips, we’ll have a memory bandwidth of 216 GB/s at a price of $61.47.  This still isn’t a finished mining product, since we need a FPGA or ASIC memory controller, circuit board, & support electronics.  If the shipped final assembly (adding additional parts, processes, testing, & logistics) costs less than the RX 470 (only $175), then the custom board will beat the GPU based card.  That is, until a faster, more efficient, cheaper graphics card comes to market.  For instance HBM graphics cards cards are already available.  But, if you find low cost, off-the-shelf, FPGA or ASIC chips with 5-10 DDR or HBM memory controllers, or your company is experienced in building custom high memory bandwidth ASIC solutions, you may be able to beat out off-the-shelf hardware.  But, if in this situation, you should probably change your business model and build graphics cards instead, since that’s already a huge market.

As a last note, make sure to keep an eye on your temps as you don’t want to accidently burn your cards or cause your rig to shutdown. Once you see your temperatures stay flat for a few minutes it should be alright. Just stay vigilant when trying out new settings and don’t assume that the first thirty seconds are the temps your cards will run at for all time. OpenHardwareMonitor is a good tool for plotting your temps and visualizing them if you need something to watch while you test out new settings on a rig, snag it from http://openhardwaremonitor.org/
Set the GPU core to 1100 Mhz and then to 1200 Mhz (don’t forget to apply, save profile and then run the overclock.bat) to see the difference in hashrate and the power draw from the wall. (if you see no difference in hashrate after chaning GPU core clock rate you need to restart your PC, sometimes if you change overclock/undervolt a lot it will stop making changes)
it’s hard to tell if one GPU produces memory errors or if it’s something bad with the GPU, that would cause it to break in the longer run (Windows has strong tools like HWinfo64 that can tell you precise if your GPU is working properly or if it’s unstable)

When reading the specifications for ASICs on this page is that they should be interpreted as being indicative, rather than authoritative. 2. You say that “You can also change the memory clock. However, this has a smaller effect”. Is this for real? Everywhere I read about overclocking it has been said that the memory increase increases your hashrate. The core clock also increase it, but this affects the power consumption.
