I think you also brought up in an earlier convo the point that the current stock has essentially sold out worldwide, so difficulty can’t keep increasing at the current rate. If there’s no new hashing power in the world that people can purchase and put online to hash ETH, then difficulty can’t keep increasing at the current rate. This difficulty “plateau” would be necessary for the 6-8 month, or even a 12 month ROI – and I certainly hope it is the case. Of course if nvidia’s volta comes in May or AMD comes out with midrange vegas or increases the supply of polarises then people will likely soak up all the GPU’s and difficulty will increase until it’s game over and it’s not even profitable vs. electricity.
Long considered the workhorse of GPU mining, the time has sadly arrived when the RX 400 and 500 series must be put out to pasture—at least for Ethereum mining purposes. Unless you intend to mine other altcoins and can find an RX 580/570/480/470 at a good price, you should shun the rip-off prices that sellers often charge for these cards.
You don’t need 500Gb or 250GB of storage the only things that will be operated on the SSD will be your OS, Mining Software and block chains that will be downloaded. That’s it that will also not make up to 100GB.
6x USB Riser Cables –  USB Riser Cables – These are to connect the 6 graphics cards to the motherboard and allow spacing between cards for heat dissipation. These are necessary when building a rig with this many GPU’s.
The decision whether Bitcoin is worth mining lies with you, but if you need some of the best mining devices for this precious cryptocurrency, then there you go. Getting the best ASIC miner would definitely pay off. The choice is yours.
Difficulty is likely to continue its established rising trend (and could spike on the release of more efficient GPUs) and price is extremely unpredictable (and may crash if the market dislikes Ethereum’s solution to its on-going DAO crisis). Further, Ethereum is scheduled to switch to a Proof of Stake model at some unspecified date, meaning it will no longer be mineable.
Both design styles end up looking very similar to one another. That’s because cryptocurrency mining focuses on two parts: the graphics card and the power supply. The rest of the computer can be little more than scrap heap pulls.
When it comes to mining for digital currencies, home computer rigs require ample processing power. For this reason, many people venturing into this pastime are building separate rigs to mine for currency on the side. This way they do not interrupt their usual computer habits.
After you have the GPUs connected to the motherboard, you need to mount them to the case. This can be done in a variety of ways, but the most common is to simply place the GPUs on the case and connect them more “permanently” using zip ties. Finally, after you have your GPUs mounted, you should run a cable labeled “VGA” rom the power supply unit to the 6- or 8-pin VGA connector on each GPUs, and you should connect a few SATA power cables to each of the powered risers. I recommended the 6-pin to SATA risers above, and I would further recommend that you only connect at most 2 cards per SATA cable from the GPU.
I would have thought a Restricted Logistic Growth function (ones that predicts natural growth patterns with a maximum carrying capacity) would have been a more natural curve to follow. This would encourage a more balanced ratio between money in circulation and money locked into a PoS.
Also, the rigs are located in the mountain area east of Albuquerque thus it is cooler then here in the city. It is about 1000 feet higher in elevation (almost 7000 feet) then the city. I don’t know if this helps but i am going to ask my friend more about this.
So after 12 months we should be making around $2,160. However haven’t deducted the hardware cost yet, so it’s more like we’re breaking even or even losing some money. This is true for Bitcoin’s current exchange rate (around $8,500).
I can’t find anything about mining on this card either, but some comments from forums leads me to believe it could be about double the speed of 7950 cards. giving you somewhere between 35-40Mh/s, but this could be wrong depending on the bandwitdth usage on the card. Could be much less. Best tip is to just try it. Would be nice to hear the result!
I’ll continue to scour for deals and add a card or two here and there for the right price, but I won’t pay over $280 for a card unless it’s a 580 8gb or 1070+ in which I have no NVIDIA cards at the moment anyway, and even then I won’t go much higher or I’ll just pass up the deal and be happy where I’m at.
That’s what I mean though – FPGA + DRAM setups are way more expensive than GPUs in terms of MH/s per $. Scrypt was able to just break-even because the memory could fit on-die and there were time-memory-tradeoffs which are not present in Ethash.
