Hi Vincent, Well, I would suggest that the best place to start is GPU mining. Check out our Mining Guides section for articles on mining Ethereum and Zcash as these are both good coins to mine with a GPU. A good coin to mine with CPU is Monero, although we don’t currently have a guide to doing that directly (we do have one for mining it through websites but this isn’t as efficient). Only free software and free membership to a pool is required to start mining. GPU mining will lead to wear and tear on your card, yes, the… Read more »
It may sound contradictory because we have indicated that a powerful team is necessary, but in the case of an IBC, the workload focuses on other components. That is why when choosing a processor it is not necessary to break your head. With a dual-core processor capable of allowing us to run Windows 10 or Linux is enough.
From what I’m reading the Intel HD Graphics 630 can address up to 64 gigabytes of ram allowing you technically keep mining even after the Geforce 1070 is forced out when the DAG finally exceeds 8 gigabytes.
Finally, and this is easy to work around, it is much harder to fit 4 290 in a small place because the heat exhaust is right on the card so they blow the heat onto each other and need clearance. This usually results in screwing it into a milk crate or something. This setup makes placement and thus overall density of the box, superior in some ways.
A: You can use any ETH wallet address for mining, but some exchanges do not allow mining or do not allow very small deposits so double check with the site if mining directly to a web-deposit address.  A good alternative to downloading the full Mist wallet and Ethereum blockchain is MyEtherWallet.com, which still allows you to manage your Ether wallet address and maintain control of your private keys (which is important for security and/or wallet backup and restoration if needed).
Cryptocurrencies of all types rely on mining to unlock units of currency for use in transactions and exchanges. The mining process differs from currency to currency but inevitably involves complicated computer rigs which solve difficult puzzles, earning tokens or currency as a reward. The most significant currencies, including Bitcoin, sport professional mining outfits with gargantuan hardware setups working around the clock at these tasks. Now, blockchain fans are creating their own individual hardware rigs for the purpose of mining lesser-known and rising currencies available on the Ethereum network.

How do we start mining ETH or ETC with our own equipment at home today? Will you read this post because it shows how easy it is to get started mining with a small investment in equipment and the willingness to learn how to set everything up and explains what steps are needed to decide if investing in the time and equipment for mining?
A: This guide covers using Windows 10 (make sure it’s 64 bit).  There are also various distros of Linux that can be used (not covered here).  But Windows is the easiest to configure and get up and running fast.  There is no Mac version at this time.
Putting it simply, your mining rig needs to solve a mathematical algorithm to mine Ethereum. The mining difficulty of the network is a measurement how difficult this algorithm is to solve. The higher the difficulty, the less Ethereum you receive for each unit of energy the GPU on your mining rig expends. As more miners join the network, this difficulty increases.
How much hash rate increase do you think you can get by getting a 2nd stick of 2gb ram in there? And is it better for power to use a single 4gb stick or 2 x 2gb sticks? What would be the increase in hash rate with say 8 or 16gb?
