Every ten minutes or so mining computers collect a few hundred pending bitcoin transactions (a “block”) and turn them into a mathematical puzzle. Such a “51% attack” would be prohibitively expensive: bitcoin miners now have 13,000 times more combined number-crunching power than the world’s 500 biggest supercomputers.
Basing on these characteristics, the available GPUs in the market would be: NVDIA GTX 1070 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 480 or higher. These GPUs give us a Hashrate of 35MH / s and 30MH / s respectively with acceptable energy consumption.
Ethereum mining hardware is thus, very crucial in terms of usage and require a large amount of electricity at the same time. Therefore, in choosing efficient Ethereum mining hardware, we would have to look into the factor of cost, how much power does it take and also higher hash rate i.e. the speed of solving and completing an operation, and thus striking a balance between them.

It’s been a while since we updated this series this past summer, but our answer for the “Is it worth it?” question has remained mostly the same. Ethereum saw increasing difficulty throughout the fall and little increase in price, which made mining steadily less and less attractive. So for an RX 480 (a 580 in my case) we should be seeing a hash rate (basically how fast the computations are running) of 25.0 MH/s. My two AMD GPUs combined are only getting around 5.8 MH/s. I’m missing more than 80% of expected performance!

However, being a tech enthusiast and a believer in disruptions, I truly believe there’s a bright future for cryptocurrencies. If I’m right, the current rise in Bitcoin and Ethereum is just the start. And one coin might be worth 100x its price today, which might justify mining it today.
With the current saturation of miners and the stated plans to switch the network to a proof-of-stake system, I would avoid mining Ethereum at this time. There are several other coins available for mining, like Monero, that may be a better choice for you depending on your goals.
AMD introduced their new 14 nanometer (nm) RX series card at a hard-to-resist $200 price in 2016 and crypto currency mining became much more profitable as the smaller 14nm fabrication process gives this card impressive performance and low power consumption.
Each Graphics card will mine slightly differently depending on the way it is made. This is all about how each GPU runs the ETHASH algorithm which is key to the proof of work in Ethereum. They also use different amounts of power.

There is also work being done on Ethereum, which may move it from a “proof of work” to a “proof of stake” set-up. If this happens, it will result in an exponential rise in block difficulty that will make blocks virtually impossible to solve.
