I have an old PC that doesn’t have PCIe slots but has 4 USB’s. I wonder what about if I use 4 PCI-E PCI Express X16 Extender and run the GPU’s from the USB ports. would it work? like this, I would need a smaller investment, just to start playing with it.
I’m still mining Ethash on my 4GB cards and Equihash on my 2GB cards. I was a little afraid that mining would not remain profitable. I’m more confident that after ETH goes to POS there will still profitable alternatives with Ethash & Equishash algos. Today I’m mining ETH & ZEC.
Because of all of that my rig will actually pay for itself in less time than your rig will pay for itself. Not saying your rig is bad by any means. Just saying I stand more of a chance of breaking even than you do 🙂
Cryptomoney developers need us to trust their currencies for it to gain value, but by using it we are tester of their code with our money. While we discover these bugs and then suffer these hacks, you see all this daily traders and speculators doing all kind of tricks to make money every time the price change, you can see them in youtube, they would sell their mothers for a BTC.
Blockchain – which emerged as one of the underpinnings of Bitcoin – is a shared record of transactions maintained by a network of computers. It has become a key technology because of its ability to record and keep track of assets or transactions with no need for middlemen.
At least for now, the value of each ETH increases faster than the mining difficulty. IMHO — the odds of a trend reversal are relatively high. That said, a speculative buy-and-hold ETH purchase would suffer even more directly from such correction. While currently one of the most profitable, Ethereum mining is not the only way to monetize this type of hardware.
If NVidia and AMD released their high-end cards 1080Ti, Vega 65, etc. with 3.5GB of RAM and a lower price to reflect less gRAM. These wouldn’t be of interest to miners while still being of use to gamers. Do you think gamers would buy them?
In summary, using a new or used Windows or Linux machine to begin just for mining seems ideal because this will be the only need and function of the computer. For a few hundred dollars, buying a new machine to just do mining is the most basic starting point. Next, buying a small amount of graphics cards to get started is the next step to verify the mining setup is working and to get an idea of the costs to scale. While the idea of dropping $20,000 to make a mining setup that produces $13,000 a month seems like a big risk, how about starting out with $1,000 in graphics cards to produce $600 a month to verify everything works?
Currently, only the Star Wars Collector’s Edition model appears to be available from Nvidia. While Jedi Order cards certainly look great, cosmetic features add nothing to the mining performance.
This has in turn led more investors to buy ethereum in anticipation of more future token sales – or initial coin offerings (ICO) – to be launched by tech start-ups for funding their next innovative projects as they believe ethereum is the “go-to blockchain”, they said.
As always agree with what you’ve written here. I definitely do think it is profitable for people who already have cards. I still think it could be profitable even at current GPU prices, but for me it is insane to buy more at this point from a risk standpoint, as I’m being ultra risk averse.
Note, when downloading the Claymore Miner Windows may provide a warning, but if you used Claymore’s download link can you ignore this.  He is a well-respected developer who has been building crypto miners for many years.
With mining rigs, you want the lowest clocked CPU, bare minimum RAM, 5,6 or 7 GPUs and a very basic HD.   Oh, and as you can see from the picture, you don’t want nor can you fit all those GPUs instead of a normal case.  You can use a nice custom made case as you see above or something cheap like a milk crate.
If you believe in the Ethereum concept (despite the failure of the DAO and doubts regarding the viability of Ethereum’s approach), you can support and gain voice in the Ethereum network through mining.
