Isaac Newton suggests the existence of an aether in The Third Book of Opticks (1718): “Doth not this aethereal medium in passing out of water, glass, crystal, and other compact and dense bodies in empty spaces, grow denser and denser by degrees, and by that means refract the rays of light not in a point, but by bending them gradually in curve lines? …Is not this medium much rarer within the dense bodies of the Sun, stars, planets and comets, than in the empty celestial space between them? And in passing from them to great distances, doth it not grow denser and denser perpetually, and thereby cause the gravity of those great bodies towards one another, and of their parts towards the bodies; every body endeavouring to go from the denser parts of the medium towards the rarer?”[3]
Geth needs to link up with the network before anything becomes fully operational. Type in ‘geth —rpc’ in the terminal and then press enter (you should be used to this by now), this action starts the download of Ethereum’s blockchain and synchronizing with the global network. This process is time intensive and is dependent on how large the blockchain is currently and the speed of your internet connection. Make sure you wait until the completion of this process before mining.
It looks even better when you chuck on some of those higher resolution texture packs. 64x64s and 128x128s packs don’t look out of place anymore but look right at home with these shaders on. Big call but I think we may have hit a new age in minecraft. One where minecraft can actually be described as a good looking game. :tongue.gif: Oh and I see what you mean when you mentioned shadows in the sky. Very unsettling having those dark shapes looming over you. haha
As for what to do with GPU’s post PoW, maybe other coins will come along but if Casper (PoS) proves itself then that kills pretty much all need for PoW on any new coins. I don’t think many people in crypto actually realize how many problems Ethereum solves and that we are looking at a pending extinction level event for just about all other alt-coins, and perhaps Bitcoin also.
Step 5 — Connect the SSD. This is a pretty simple step as well. You should have an SSD which will serve as your hard drive. Connect this SSD to the motherboard using the SATA data cable that most likely shipped in the same box as your motherboard. After this, connect your SSD using the sata power cable that came with your GPU. One cable should be labeled SATA, you should connect that end to the GPU end that also says SATA, and then connect the SATA cable to your SSD.
RAM — What’s the best RAM to buy for mining Ethereum? To go with your motherboard and your CPU, you’re going to need some RAM for your rig. The most economical purchase is likely to be a single stick of 4GB DDR3 RAM. If you want to run other applications on your rig for one reason or another, then perhaps go with 8GB. Regardless, you don’t need much RAM to mine. Keep in mind that, depending on the motherboard that you buy, you might need to get DDR4 RAM instead.
With a few hours of research, the single best graphics card I found for the money which is actually in stock and has same day shipping for me is the EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti SC GAMING, 4GB GDDR5, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC) Graphics Card 04G-P4-6253-KR on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MF7EQJZ. I chose this graphics card because all the others I looked at for a better value were sold out! The EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti SC has SAME DAY delivery near me with an estimated hashing power for ETH at 12 MH which equals repayment less than 2 months at the current price for Ether! If I was starting today this is what I would begin with by ordering 2 to 8 of these. I am not starting today because I have a trip coming up next week and am considering beginning Ethereum mining and/or being a Steemit Witness in late June 2017.
Hearing “the old Cherokee voices” when she skates and works in the Manuscript and Rare Book room in the library, Ada grows increasingly aware of the continuing power of Cherokee tradition today. Coming from a culture based in oral tradition, Ada discovers the potentially liberating role of the written word, and she finds her own empowerment as its promulgator and reinventor in the twenty-first century.
Profitability decline per year – This is probably the most important and elusive variable of them all. The idea is that since no one can actually predict the rate of miners joining the network no one can also predict how difficult it will be to mine in 6 weeks, 6 months or 6 years from now. This is one of the two reasons no one will ever be able to answer you once and for all “is Bitcoin mining profitable ?”. The second reason is the conversion rate. In the case below, you can insert an annual profitability decline factor that will help you estimate the growing difficulty.
Hopefully we get some plateau, and ETH price goes up to where there is ROI at some point for cards in the $250 range that were online in the 2018 time frame. Then we can all be happy (and blissfully ignore the fact that buying would likely have been better haha – but yes that’s a different topic entirely – profitable in USD is good enough for me for this project!)
If you just want a very secure wallet and not necessarily hardware, consider https://www.ether.li/ – they have an excellent (dare I say perfect?) model with 2-out-of-3 multisig trustless keystore, where they provide one of the signatures with 2fa.
