I think you also brought up in an earlier convo the point that the current stock has essentially sold out worldwide, so difficulty can’t keep increasing at the current rate. If there’s no new hashing power in the world that people can purchase and put online to hash ETH, then difficulty can’t keep increasing at the current rate. This difficulty “plateau” would be necessary for the 6-8 month, or even a 12 month ROI – and I certainly hope it is the case. Of course if nvidia’s volta comes in May or AMD comes out with midrange vegas or increases the supply of polarises then people will likely soak up all the GPU’s and difficulty will increase until it’s game over and it’s not even profitable vs. electricity.

– I’m full of frustration about this because I have 4 more GPUs and 2 more PSU ready to mine but I can’t even start with just 2 cards. My conclusion for know is, I’m doing something terrible stupid or terrible wrong.
That being said, the more powerful your mining hardware is the more likely you are to successfully mine Ether, and in turn generate a profit. If you use one of the three GPUs mentioned above, you’re off to a good start.
Is there a way to synchronize the animations with Minema? Everything is working fine except that, when I start the recording, the shaderpack’s animations seem to compensate for the low realtime framerate created by Minema, so all of the animations appear extremely fast in the final video. Is there anyway to fix this?
The reason this is so important is GPU’s are selling out at insane prices now because the masses are seeing that you get way more revenue than cost of electricity. But it’s highly possible that at current difficulty trends – even if difficulty plateaus – GPU’s bought today will never pay for themselves without a serious increase in ETH price (in which case just buy ETH instead of mine). So I’m unconvinced that mining is “profitable in 2018” – it’s profitable for people who already have cards yes, and for them they may have enough mined from earlier months that overall it is profitable for them too. More disturbingly – this trend of misunderstanding what “profit” actually is only driving the difficulty higher as folks naively think they’ll actually make money at current prices and difficulty trends.
Disclosure: Mining metrics are calculated based on a network hash rate of 234,245 GH/s and using a ETH – USD exchange rate of 1 ETH = $ 738.07. These figures vary based on the total network hash rate and on the ETH to USD conversion rate. Block reward is fixed at 3 ETH and future block reward reductions are not taken into account. The average block time used in the calculation is 15 seconds. The electricity price used in generating these metrics is $ 0.12 per kWh. Network hash rate varies over time, this is just an estimation based on current values.
@armyman It depends on what you’re more comfortable with using. Windows 10 is fine and you can mine with claymore’s dual miner. Personally I use windows 10 because I’m not really familiar with Ubuntu and it’s easier for me to install drivers and software, and I use ethminer because I’m used to it and works just fine for me.
All this computing power chews up electricity, and that costs money. It’s worth looking at your hardware’s energy consumption in watts, when making your choice. You want to make sure that you don’t end up spending all of your money on electricity to mine coins that won’t be worth what you paid.
Skycoin is the cryptocurrency of Skywire. That means Skycoin has a practical application more than simply acting as another digital currency. The way Skycoin works is this: When you pass something along the Skywire network, you earn Skycoin. When you need to access the bandwidth yourself, pay via Skycoin. It only takes seconds to send and receive, with thousands of transactions per second.
You would need a different motherboard that’s capable of supporting two different RX 460s. The software itself can run on two separate GPUs, so that’s definitely not an issue. The issue is that dual GPU motherboards can cost quite a bit of money compared to single slot boards.
Have a question in regards to the CPU, since some coins can be mined via CPU, what would be the consequences to have a good CPU and also mine something with it while the GPU´s also do some mining, then i would get some extra mining power? or am i thinking wrong here?
Also you are assuming a strategy where the end goal is to sell the computer after the mining period is over, thats fine for some people, but in my case im building it to actually be kept and be useful past that period, so again doesnt apply in my case, this was also specifically pointed out in the blog entry.
You may want to consider moving away from dwarfpool as they control too much hashrate – see If you are miner, please consider moving away from dwarfpool (44%). This link also contains a list of other pools and some of these pools provide downloads to slightly different mining clients – you may find one more suitable in this list.
If you have multiple GPUs, you’ll notice all of them listed here. By default, ethminer will use all of the GPUs on your computer that use a similar compute function. In our case it will be using OpenCL. We’re going to be using the MinerGate pool of eth.pool.minergate.com:45791. You can go to the MinerGate website for a full list of pool URLs. We’ll also be using the account name we setup with MinerGate in this example it will be the email I used for account setup.
Putting it simply, your mining rig needs to solve a mathematical algorithm to mine Ethereum. The mining difficulty of the network is a measurement of how difficult this algorithm is to solve. The higher the difficulty, the less Ethereum you receive for each unit of energy the GPU on your mining rig expends. As more miners join the network, this difficulty increases.
Hey there! Could you maybe try to get this to work on macOS as well? When I start it then it gives me a bunch of “invalid program:” and then several different things. (composite, gbuffers, final and others)
The value of Ether currently stands at around $950 and it is a more or less profitable venture for beginners as well as experienced miners. Ethereum also runs on a proof-of-protocol like Bitcoin and the following need to be taken into account when calculating the profitability of mining Ether.
After running this miner 24-hours a day for nearly a week, the basement is no longer uncomfortably cold. In fact, when I go down the wooden staircase, the first thing I notice is the extra heat on the back of my ankles. I wouldn’t characterize the basement as hot, but you can tell the rig is increasing the temperature in the room, especially when you stand in front of it. If the system were in my office where I work all day, I would have turned it off after a day. The extra heat that the system produces is only manageable in my large, cool, basement.
Geth needs to link up with the network before anything becomes fully operational. Type in ‘geth —rpc’ in the terminal and then press enter (you should be used to this by now), this action starts the download of Ethereum’s blockchain and synchronizing with the global network. This process is time intensive and is dependent on how large the blockchain is currently and the speed of your internet connection. Make sure you wait until the completion of this process before mining.
Another indicator showing that Ether can overtake Bitcoin can be found by looking at who’s backing each type of currency, as well as why they are backing said currency. Bitcoin’s focus on payment technology makes it popular with governments, such as Japan’s and China’s governments.
When I joined The Bitcoin Code 2 months ago, never could have I ever imagined the series of events that would unfold just days after locking in my free software. I was able to clear my $131,382 debt. There is no greater feeling than to be debt-free. Now, I???m in the process of buying my dream home. I still can???t believe this is all really happening???I???m forever grateful to Steve.
In the early days of GPU mining, AMD cards were the clear winners, in terms of performance. More recent Nvidia cards (such as the Titan range) match or even exceed the performance of AMD cards. Mining performance for certain coins may be better or worse, depending on the manufacturer.
So I’ve started playing Aether Legacy now and when I crafted a zanite axe and chopped down a golden oak tree, I didn’t receive any golden amber, even tho zanite should be enough. So I switched to a test world, gave myself a gravitite axe just to see if I would get golden amber with a gravitite axe at least. I did get golden amber, but on every single log, which shouldn’t be the case it’s a bit too op. Also: I even got it from regular skyroot trees(!) and also from already placed log(!). Please fix this!
If you look here: https://etherchain.org/statistics/miners it will show you a graph and a list of mining pools, and their relative size in terms of how much hashrate they contribute to the network. You may want to join a larger pool because it’s payments will be very predictable and regular, or take a chance on a smaller pool if it happens to be geographically close to you or you like something about it. Smaller pools can be unpredictable in terms of payouts and luck – but that can be either in you favour or not.
Created by the original developers of Bitcoin and Ethereum, Skycoin is the new fast, free, secure, scalable, eco-friendly, private and programmable cryptocurrency built to power Skywire, the new Internet.
In an ideal world, we’d all be able to build the most efficient Ethereum mining rigs. In reality, you need to invest countless hours into researching the latest hardware setups and mining rings, and that’s where CoinMiner’s Mining Rigs come in. Our Mining Rigs are one of the best options out there — built to the best standards, with high hash rates, extensive quality control and full of power. Our systems are the best systems on the market.

TJ Hooker, an AC unit takes MORE than 1W of electricity to remove 1W of heat. Air conditioning (and all heat exchangers for that matter) are not energy efficient. 2nd law of thermodynamics, and all that jazz. If he’s pumping 1000W of heat into the room, he’s probably using close to 1500W-2000W of air conditioning to offset it.
