“Ethereum Mining Bandbreite”

The Ethereum Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) file is stored in VRAM by miners. The DAG grows in size by remaining proportionate to the mining difficulty. About once every epoch (or 30,000 Ethereum blocks), a new DAG is generated, which must be downloaded in order to continue mining.

A Bitcoin ASIC’s specification could be seen as having a certain hash rate (e.g. Gh/s) at a certain efficiency (e.g. J/Gh). While cost is another factor, this is often a relatively fixed factor as the minimum cost of a chip will be determined by the fabrication process, while the maximum cost will be determined by market forces, which are outside of post-fabrication technological control.
That is an excellent hash rate as long as your cards don’t overheat. I like to keep my GPU’s around 65 degrees Celsius. Also, the reason I dial mine back to around 31Mh/s is because power usage goes up significantly once you bump the cards past 32Mh/s.
If you’re building a dedicated mining rig, then you probably want your mining rig to boot up and start mining automatically, without any user intervention. We’ll need to enable auto-login for that to be possible.
There are two types of mining hardware: CPUs and GPUs. GPUs boast a higher hash rate, meaning they can guess puzzle answers more quickly. At time of writing, GPUs are now the only option for ether miners.
It can be remembered that around April of 2017, the cards for AMD Rx 4 & 5 series totally sold out leading to a significant rise in price in most markets. Most miners opted to use this GPU, which was affordably available on the market back then.
Once installed, your node can ‘talk’ to other nodes, connecting it to the ethereum network. In addition to mining ether, it provides an interface for deploying your own smart contracts and sending transactions using the command line.
It is no small wonder, therefore, that almost all of the aforementioned Radeon cards have been swept up by eager buyers. Nvidia cards aren’t affected and can still be bought easily, as they are a lot less efficient at mining Ethereum blocks. This even goes for newer, expensive Pascal models like the GeForce GTX 1000.
Disclosure: Mining metrics are calculated based on a network hash rate of 9,654 GH/s and using a ETC – USD exchange rate of 1 ETC = $ 21.49. These figures vary based on the total network hash rate and on the ETC to USD conversion rate. Block reward is fixed at 4 ETC and future block reward reductions are not taken into account. The average block time used in the calculation is 15 seconds. The electricity price used in generating these metrics is $ 0.12 per kWh. Network hash rate varies over time, this is just an estimation based on current values.
With just 1.0 MH/s of hash rate behind the Radeon RX 480, this is also a great choice for anybody shopping for an effective Ethereum mining GPU. Even though its hash rate {24.0 MH/s} is slightly behind that of Radeon RX 480, both of them share the same power cost per day. With $0.4320 as its daily power cost, the cost per MH/s of this GPU is $9.13. This will bring a daily return of $1.15, which can be translated to $418.16 per year. The cost of this GPU is also very friendly, as it’s on sale at Amazon now.
Please do your own legwork before looking for handouts. We are a helpful community but are not the place for hand-holding new miners through every step of the process. See the multitude of intro guides for that. Similarly, simple questions belong in the “Simple Questions” monthly thread.

@Ursium I am a “hobbyist” miner. I have enjoyed cobbling together mining rigs with spare parts am more than happy if i just break even. Right now, you are right, the “altcoin” markets are just pump and dump avenues. I do GPU mining, but have friends that do CPU mining (there still are CPU only coins being mined out there).
This is pretty much a given. However, I thought I would mention it as it’s always best to start off with a clean installation. If you’re using more than 4 GPUs, then I’d recommend using Windows 10, or you will need to do some tweaks. If you’re going to use Windows 7 or 8, then also install the 6xGPU Mod software. An important fact to remember with fresh installations is that you should disable your computer from ever going to sleep or hibernating.
After you’ve managed to setup all of the GPU’s profiles and have tested them, and you are sure that they produce no, or very few memory errors, you want to make sure that your mining rig works automatically.
 – A standard keyboard, mouse and monitor are needed.  If managing your rig remotely (not covered here in this beginner guide) you will want to get a headless hdmi dummy plug to plug into your rig so it boots into Windows properly for remote access.
With the right GPU (an advanced GPU from AMD or Nvidia) you’ll be able to mine for Ethereum 200 times faster than you would have been able to with a CPU, and many that mine for Ethereum professionally say that the AMD GPU cards are much more efficient than the Nvidia brethren.
This guide is focused on the Ethash algorithm mining, so the settings and the tutorials from this guide are not optimized for the other mining algorithms like CryptoNight. For this I plan to make another guide or expand this one so that you will understand how to optimize your GPU’s for the other algorithms.
A: This guide covers using Windows 10 (make sure it’s 64 bit).  There are also various distros of Linux that can be used (not covered here).  But Windows is the easiest to configure and get up and running fast.  There is no Mac version at this time.
While it sounds more complex, the idea is fairly simple. Every time a bitcoin transaction is made, the network ‘breaks’ the total amount as if it was paper money, issuing back bitcoins in a way that makes the data behave similarly to physical coins or change.
@spagnola – I wasn’t being dismissive at all – I own a few GPUs myself. Maybe my tone was a bit assertive because I tire of seeing individuals with no interest in our technology just ‘wanting to mine’ and then becoming hostile when they quickly realize we’re not yet-another-doge to point pools at.
Keep in mind the context… From Bitcoin has emerged a great community of tech-savvy do-it-yourselfers and a new caste of digital speculators, then ASICS and super mining farms came, endangering the idea of wholly decentralized and reliable network : the Proof-of-Work algorithms had to become “harder” for ASICs to mine, ie ASIC-resistant, and this was one of the numerous reasons why Ethereum had been praised. Now, difficulty is approaching limit for mining rentability, raising concerns for the mining community. As if we needed a new eldorado, easy to mine for, that would be capable of embodying a new crypto-era, with a fairly certain future… mmh, ‘ looks familiar. Yet, be quick… because there are always some ASICs coming (remember Dash), and ZEC’s price has already fallen so that ETH is still worth mining.
The recent drop in Ethereum prices may have hurt quite a few investors betting on the rise of cryptocurrency—but the digital coin is still a boon to investors of semiconductor stocks Nvidia (nvda) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
Taking a look back at the Hashing Power vs Power Consumption directly compared to each other.  When looking at this graph make sure to pay attention to the power side as it is set to a x10 scale so that it’s easier to visualize the performance per watt aspect when mining.  Take the R9 390 as example the hash rate is 28.9MH/s and the chart shows 35 for the power draw, take the x10 scale and it’s really 350.  Just like a tachometer on car it’s to make for an easier to read visual.
Ethereum aims to abstract away bitcoin’s design, however, so that developers can create applications or agreements that have additional steps, new rules of ownership, alternative transaction formats or different ways to transfer state.
