@Brips somebody else tested my CUDA miner on a GTX980 and the result wasn’t spectacular, roughly the same speed as OpenCL. On my todo list now first is getting the CMake config right, so you guys can build it for Ubuntu, and after that adding additional kernel tuning parameters so you can achieve maximum thread occupancy depending on the card you use.
I’ve had several people ask about the NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB . (Update: Bitcoin Core is less usable as money due to much higher fees and delayed transaction times. The Core team has also expressed an interest in keeping these fees high since they view BTC as a “store-of-value” and not something to be transacted on a daily basis. In contrast, Bitcoin Cash’s transaction fees cost pennies and payments can be validated even with zero confirmations. These facts make BCH the ideal cryptocurrency for sending and receiving money anywhere in the world.)

Processor: If you go with an LGA1150 motherboard the Intel Celeron G1840 Processor is often used as it a TDP of just 53 Watts and costs $55.99 shipped.  If you opted for the newer Intel LGA1151 platform something like the Intel Celeron Processor G3930 at $39.00 shipped would not be a bad choice and has a TDP of 51 Watts. Since the CPU load is minimal (usually under 15% for pooled mining) you can get away with a low-cost processor and they both come with a heatsink fan (HSF) that you can use. We highly suggest turning off the Windows 10 search indexing service (simple guide) on your dedicated mining rigs as that eats up power for something that isn’t needed. With it enabled we noticed our CPU load was going up to 40-50% and the system was using significantly more power.
Step 15 CPU mining: Type in ethminer and press “enter” and you will start mining with your CPU. Again you will need to create a DAG file the first time you do this which can take some time. But after that is complete your Geth program downloaded in step 1 should start talking to your ethminer program and you should start mining!
But this is where the money hits the wallet and while the 1080+1070+1060 was 42.5% more profitable in terms of hashing to power draw the initial cost makes payback insanely high as cost 3x as much as the 470+570 configuration. Something very important in the long game.
This point can also be addressed in two ways: empirically and theoretically. Empirically, botnets so far have not been substantially involved in mounting 51% attacks in existing altcoins, generally, they are content simply to extract revenue as “legitimate” miners. Theoretically, the current public prominence of botnets as a threat is backed largely by their performance in network flooding / denial of service attacks – situations where each computer in a botnet is only used for the number of connections that it can make. In the context of mining, however, botnet-infected computers tend to be running older operating systems and have weaker specifications, meaning that they will have a much lower performance and impact on the network than their size might initially suggest.

STEP – This is where the optimum should be, reduce the power draw to only 50% and test for 3-5 minutes. It should give almost full hashrate with massive 50% power draw reduction. If you get crash/freeze/Claymore error increase the power draw to 60% and that’s your optimum. You should get something like this:
Bitcoin mining and Ethereum mining are quite different. Ethereum’s development team is more centralized and can therefore can plan and implement POW changes. The Ethereum development team currently has plans to change Ethereum from proof of work to proof of stake. Changes to the mining algorithm are much harder to implement with Bitcoin and aren’t likely to happen.
With so many changes coming to Ethereum in the future, it is expected that interest in this altcoin will only continue to increase. Whether or not that means there is a future for ASIC mining hardware focused on Ethereum is a different matter altogether. Bitmain has not officially confirmed this product will come to market, and common sense says they will never do so. Then again, Ethereum’s switch to proof-of-stake may still be years away, for all we know. An Ethereum ASIC miner is an interesting idea, but for now, it’s nothing more than an illusion.

Actual results vary depending on your customization. AMD cards allow for greater customization while Nvidia cards are locked to certain configurations.
This video card is the older brother to the RX 580. For some cryptocurrencies, the AMD RX 480 actually outperforms the RX 580, but I put it at number 3 on the list since it is discontinued and somewhat difficult to find other than on the used market. My favorite model, of course, is the AMD Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ (Model #11260-20-20G). If you can find these at a decent price point (again, always worth checking eBay), they are a great value.
