Geth is the original software from the Ethereum team. If you wish to solo mine, this will be your best option. It’s simple and straightforward to use. It can also create your wallet for you, but as discussed below, you should get Mist/Ethereum Wallet as well if you prefer a GUI option.
The My Crypto Buddy calculator is another useful calculator which has the option to include difficulty into the calculations. This means that it decreases your mining profit each month depending on how much the site estimates that the network’s difficulty will go up or down. For example, if the difficulty goes up by 100 GH/s in one month, the calculator will then assume that every following month will incur a difficulty increase of the same amount. This leads to a problem. If in one month the network receives an abnormal  difficulty bump, whether due to a price increase of the currency leading other miners to join the network, or if AMD or NVidia release a new graphics card with a big hash rate boost, the MCB calculator will then use that abnormal value as the absolute value for every month, making the calculator unreliable. Ethereum mining can be incredibly lucrative, if you have the proper hardware to do it. You can’t just use the same computer that you use for everyday activities like watching YouTube or sending emails. You need a computer with a high powered graphics card because mining for ether is very time consuming (on your ethereum mining hardware) and on your electric bill.
Once you successfully mine a block and it is included in the blockchain, you will earn ether as well as gas set for that block, which is the computational cost of mining that block. As a miner, you’ll always target blocks with more gas allocated because it is more profitable. The amount of ether you get for gas is computed as gas used multiplied by gas price.
Let’s look at these two words, hash and rate. A hash is a proof of work calculation that you do within a block. Once that block is done you move to the next one. All mined blocks are included within the blockchain. Hash rate implies the number of proof of work calculations in the network per given time. It is usually denoted per second.
This is outsourcing the mining. Cloud mining companies will charge you a fee, usually for a fixed-term contract. A short contract might be one year.Cloud mining is profitable because the GPUs are bought in bulk, hence at discounts.
The RX 480 and 580s are extremely popular mining cards due to the fact that their price is very low, especially when compared to the similarly performing GTX 1070. Another benefit of this card is that AMD allows users to flash their card’s BIOS, which can make the card run at at higher hash rates with lower power draws. However, due to the popularity of this card, it can be very hard to find at reasonable prices, but if you can find this card at a good price it’s an excellent performer for mining. This card is an excellent choice to use on the CryptoNight, and ETHash algorithms. When compared to NVidias offerings however, it’s a very poor performer on EquiHash.
Before any serious outlay of capital, further research into Ethereum’s prospects is warranted. While GPUs may be set to mining other coins and their costs partially recouped through resale, GPUs depreciate rapidly. This is especially true of cards put to the constant, intensive work of mining.
 – For Power Supplies, you want to double check that your PSU has enough connections to support the number of GPU’s you are running and enough overall wattage to support your total system power draw (and to give yourself some buffer of at least 10-15%). However, you can’t use any GPU. Some are better than others when it comes to mining. For example, the GTX 1060 is a great GPU for gaming, but it’s not the best mining GPU on the market in its price range.

GPUs while less powerful than ASICs give you the option to choose what coin to mine, as ASICs will only allow you to mine on a single algorithm. GPUs can swap different algorithms any time they like, and can also be resold to gamers, unlike ASICs which can only be sold to fellow miners.
You’ll also need Ethereum mining software to point your hardware towards your selected pool. And, an Ethereum wallet to receive payouts to. A hardware wallet like the Ledger Nano S would be the best option.
Also, I noticed that there are 14 GPU- and 19 GPU motherboards available and I read somewhere that new WIndows software will support it. That must me a huge saving having that one m/b instead of 3-4 as in case of 5-6 GPU rigs.

You see, Bitcoin was originally designed to be mined using CPU power.
