Not sure how I’m kidding myself here, but you’re making the point for me. You don’t mine fiat, you mine cryptos to convert to USD at some point. You’re right to say that that point can be delayed into perpetuity. Over that time horizon, prices can go up, or go down, which determines how “profitable” it is to mine or not mine.

It is strange, yes. I thought that too. At some point I abandoned the Claymore and started WinMiner just to see in the command prompt that… its using Claymore 9.7 Beta. It connected and started mining from the WinMiner pools. In a few hours I tried again the newest Claymore and it connected to mine ETH.
You must be new, but if Eth was to crash or go there would be multiple no profitable cryptocurrencies to mine. Do your research, the only reason they are profitable is because of the horde is on ETH. HA noobs….they think they know everything.
Sometimes a Claymore Ethereum mining rig can become unstable or unresponsive, particularly when optimizing GPU performance by overclocking and undervolting. Not sure:) I think there is a problem with supliers of the hardware. Cryptocurrency is very popular. For example it is difficult to buy a graphic card to the PC because averyone want to mine cryptocurrency.

Its basically like how you used to play video games and after winning each level, the next level gets unlocked. Similarly, the game here is mathematical puzzles and new levels are blocks in the blockchain.

You say the Vega 64 does 41 MH/s on 135 watts – but 2 – GTX 1060s can do 46 MH/s on 140 watts and costs less…. so not sure about ‘dominating’ the competition. They are definitely a worthy option, especially if you have limited GPU slots on your motherboard.
