I though that developing Ethereum ASIC would be unprofitable because of their plans to switch to PoS, but it seems like Bitmain has calculated otherwise. Maybe it will be usable to mine other coins with the same algorithm. But since it won’t be able to mine all GPU algorithms, GPU mining will still be around for a long time, so if this ASIC will take over ETH mining, current ETH miners will just switch to other coins.
“The way the monopoly manufacturer currently operates is abusive to its customers – individual miners – the industry at large,” he said, referring to major Chinese ASIC producer Bitmain. “Manufacturers can produce ASICs at a tiny cost, but miners have to buy at a high price. This violates the one-CPU-one-vote ethos as described in the Bitcoin white paper, because while everyone can buy CPU at the same price, the same is not true for ASIC hardware.”
You could purchase a brand-new computer, but that will cut into your potential profits. Many home-based Ethereum miners choose to build their own systems as a way to save cash. If you like to tinker with hardware and have a lot of spare parts around your house, building your own system might make sense. If you have an older PC lying around, a less complicated option might be to upgrade your existing hardware so that it is suitable for mining.
A password will be of you at this stage, and extra care should be taken here. Be sure about your password, write it down if possible and be sure to type it in carefully. Press enter once again after typing in the password and voila! Your new account is created.
Click on the ‘View’ menu to deselect other cryptocurrencies, until only ETH remains. MinerGate will notify you that it’s loading a DAG (Dagger Hashimoto) file. This is around 1GB in size and represents the proof of work algorithms necessary to mine Ethereum data blocks. If you want to understand this further, see the Ethereum Github page for more information.
Some of my GPU’s can only be reduced to 70% power draw limit, if I go under that limit I lose heavy on ethereum hashrate, so keep an eye on that. In my case it happened because on some GPU’s I can’t get the Core Clock to work above 50 MHz without a crash or freeze. That’s probably because they are low quality cheap GPU’s. On most NVIDIA cards this setting should work properly.
IMPORTANT: The following info is taken from the manufacturers and does not take into account and custom configuration such as overclocking, undervolting and BIOS modifications. Actual results vary depending on your customization. AMD cards allow for greater customization while Nvidia cards are locked to certain configurations.
Since Ethash (Ethereum Hash function) is essentially GPU memory bounded, overclock the GPU memory is sufficient without increasing the GPU core clock. This should reduce the power draw and the temperature of the GPU, while maintaining a great hashrate!
Welcome to Asic Miner Market, the most advanced cryptocurrency mining, hash hardware service. We sell Asic GPU, Coin, Hash, ASIC Mining hardware, and solutions. Why bother with risky mining contracts or renting when you can buy hashing power directly? Asic Miner Market brings more sense to the market.
All of that being said bitcoin mining carries on at an ever more staggering rate. Before the ASICs came around bitcoin already had a substantial mining network built on GPU infrastructure. This initial network effect made the ASICs possible.
The initial price you pay will determine how long it takes for your card to pay for itself, based on your mining profits. This formula will pinpoint your Return on Investment (ROI): Coins earned minus electrical costs and other costs. The ROI is usually expressed in months. Prices should be considered rough indications, since they’re based on the current Amazon prices at the time of writing.
While more significant performance gains are possible by flashing a custom GPU BIOS (which I’ll cover in the next part of this guide), you should at least be able to realize some significant power savings (which has the added benefit of lowering GPU temperatures as well).
