Second, I worked out a way to benchmark using different DAG (directed acyclic graph) file sizes. Chances are the other clients can do this as well, I just didn’t work out how. I felt it important to test various DAG file sizes to show future performance as well. As the DAG file size increases, so too does the difficulty. A new DAG is generated for each epoch around every 30,000 blocks and right now it is estimated that this will happen every 4 days or so. For example, at the start of the month Ethereum was at DAG epoch #126 and now we’re already over #130 and next month we should hit #140, but don’t hold me to that.
On the other hand, GPUs are great calculators for anything, and with a push of a button you can mine a different coin. Now you have the choice – picking and choosing when to mine and which coin to mine. This gives GPUs the upperhand and can greatly increase profits.
Before you opt to start mining this wonderful cryptocurrency, you should be convinced that it is the best thing that you want to do. You should analyze all the necessary investments and related information and ensure that you understand them correctly. Things you need to analyze and comprehend well are like the volatility that has characterized this world of cryptocurrency and getting an ROI after a half a year of being in the business.
The screenshot above shows a single 4GB RX 470 mining at the settings pictured in section 12. I was able to get about a 10% performance gain over factory settings while reducing power consumption at the same time. That’s good, but we can do better (sometimes much better!) if we’re willing to venture into the world of GPU BIOS mods—and I’ll show you how to do exactly that in the next section of my guide.
Miners use their computers to run programs which attempt to solve very compicated math problems which are used to validate, and embed blocks. Mining uses a very large amount of computing power and in turn it also uses a lot of electricty, neither of which come free. So as an incentive, the network rewards those who mine.
At the time of writing this article, the aforementioned mining rig would cost around $2,250USD and would be capable of producing around 0.5 Ethereum per month. This is about $250 per month before variable costs. That means within 9 months you’ll have paid off your initial investment. This is of course assuming the price of Ethereum stays the same.
The only caution I’d give is that you need to make sure you’ll profitable. Not all GPUs are very efficient and you may start using more money for power than you make. The best thing to do is research studies that have been done on GPU hash rates for Ethereum and also their corresponding wattage used.
A miner is an investor that devotes time, computer space and energy to sorting through blocks. When the mining process hits the right harsh, they will submit their solutions to the issuer. After verification, the issuer of the currency offers rewards which are portions of the transactions they helped in verifying. They also offer digital coins in exchange for the work of miners. The result of digital mining is called proof of work system. Some currencies depend on this system alone while other use a combination of proof of stake and proof of work.
The mining demand has driven prices well above normal retail price. That said, the card achieves a hashrate similar to the GTX 1079 Ti and 1080 models. And it’s a fraction of the price and lower power consumption, at least compared to the 1080. However, you must keep in mind that this older technology will have a lower resale value than these Nvidia models (once it’s no longer suitable for mining).
An ideal DAC platform would harness the collective processing power of full nodes to process transactions, secure the network, and payout equally based on per block generation, similar to a mining pool. I know it sounds socialist, but it’s not because work is required. Every miner is contributing to the total processing power of the network as long as they are connected.
A: You can use any ETH wallet address for mining, but some exchanges do not allow mining or do not allow very small deposits so double check with the site if mining directly to a web-deposit address.  A good alternative to downloading the full Mist wallet and Ethereum blockchain is MyEtherWallet.com, which still allows you to manage your Ether wallet address and maintain control of your private keys (which is important for security and/or wallet backup and restoration if needed).
Even though it is not impossible that Bitmain will be developing an ASIC miner for Ethereum, the company also knows about developments taking place in the cryptocurrency world. They are aware that Ethereum will switch to proof-of-stake at some point, and the longevity of an F3 may not be all that appealing to any of the parties involved. Their other miners for Bitcoin and Litecoin have been well-received by the community, but neither of those currencies plans to change their algorithm anytime soon.
Second, copy these figures into the Cryptowizzard Mining Calculator, a more sophisticated calculator which allows you to set your electricity costs, which are critical to determining profitability. Unfortunately, this calculator doesn’t automatically retrieve the current price, hashrate and block time. So, we copy those over:
Based on the release notes from the company, the driver will boost performance for “Blockchain Compute Workloads,” thus bolstering the efficiency of digital currency mining computers that use a graphics processing unit (GPU) for mining.
