Overclocking: Overclocking is the simpler of the two methods. Windows and ethOS support these easily through Wattman and ethos-overclocking respectively. The general rule of thumb is that increasing the mem clock by 10% increases your hashrate by 10%. You can also change the core clock. However, this has a smaller effect. Also, reducing core clock can be beneficial because it can reduce your power use and while your hashrate will be slightly lower, you could be positive overall as you’ll be using less power. The right core/mem balance will depend on your electricity cost and hashrate.
Coming from the Scrypt/GPU arena… What type of array do you estimate a contending miner would need in order to stay competitive (CPU type & number, Memory, additional hardware)? # Rack Units if applicaple? I realize this is complex, but on a rough order of magnitude?
The value of Bitcoin is one thing that has to be continuously kept on the mind. Whereas it might appear very lucrative today, the markets are not easily and the price can come down to any amount the next day. Anyone who has an interest in venturing into this market must understand that one fact.
When choosing a GPU for mining, you want a good balance of low power usage (assuming you pay for electricity) and great hash rates. I’ve listed my recommendations below in the order of what I would buy if I was building a rig today.
A: You can use any ETH wallet address for mining, but some exchanges do not allow mining or do not allow very small deposits so double check with the site if mining directly to a web-deposit address.  A good alternative to downloading the full Mist wallet and Ethereum blockchain is MyEtherWallet.com, which still allows you to manage your Ether wallet address and maintain control of your private keys (which is important for security and/or wallet backup and restoration if needed).
“Bitmain is about to release F3, the ethereum ASIC miner. It’s reported that every miner is mounted with 3 mainboards. On each mainboard there are 6 ASIC processors, each of which has 32 1GB DDR3 memory. Therefore, one unit of F3 miner contains 72 Gigabyte DRAM memory.”
SMART PLUG – If the rig is frozen and cannot be accessed with remote desktop, then we need to restart it. I use smart plugs for that. You can monitor your power draw and restart your rigs with it (by switching power off and back on)
All prices for products sold by us and invoiced by us to territories others than People’s Republic of China are entered without value added tax and customs duties. Hello, I was wondering if you could help me with a bios modification question. I have a rig running mostly rx470 mining editions, are these cards already maxed out when it comes to tweeking their bios? Im asking becuase i have tryed to tweek them in the past and run into issues and a loss in hash rate…
-mvddc   set target GPU memory voltage, multiplied by 1000. For example, “-mvddc 1050” means 1.05V. You can also specify values for every card, for example “-mvddc 900,950,1000,970”. Supports latest AMD 4xx cards only in Windows.
It has become the new standard in Ethereum mining and with the huge price explosion the demand for these cards have far outpaced supply and created an extreme GPU shortage, resulting in much higher GPU prices.  That said, if you shop carefully, set up auto-notifications/alerts and have a little luck you can get some of the AMD RX series cards.
@Brips somebody else tested my CUDA miner on a GTX980 and the result wasn’t spectacular, roughly the same speed as OpenCL. On my todo list now first is getting the CMake config right, so you guys can build it for Ubuntu, and after that adding additional kernel tuning parameters so you can achieve maximum thread occupancy depending on the card you use.
In Ethereum Mining, the difficulty is adjusted dynamically so that the network produces one block in every 12 seconds on an average. Thanks to the synchronization of the system, it is not possible to rewrite history or maintain a fork except the individual attempting to do so has over half of the mining power in the network.
You can create a decred wallet at Bittrex. It’s a very good trading site featuring a lot of altcoins including decred. You can cash out your decred at your account page in supernova, under “My Account” -> “Edit Account” -> “Payment Address” and you need to type your bittrex address there. And now you just need to set “Automatic Payout Threshold” to your desired value, I use 0.5 as my payout cap. I convert my mined decred to ethereum at  a bittrex exchange site, and store my value like that. It’s safe if you use a 2FA (authenticator).
@Ursium I really like your opinion and hope everyone that joins Ethereum thinks the same. Must of the alt-coins are a pump and dump ecosystem and this just tells me people do not care about cryptocurrency. they just live the dream of getting rich easily.
“The way the monopoly manufacturer currently operates is abusive to its customers – individual miners – and the industry at large,” he said, referring to major Chinese ASIC producer Bitmain. “Manufacturers can produce ASICs at a tiny cost, but miners have to buy at a high price. This violates the one-CPU-one-vote ethos as described in the Bitcoin white paper, because while everyone can buy CPU at the same price, the same is not true for ASIC hardware.”
On the other hand, GPUs are great calculators for anything, and with a push of a button you can mine a different coin. Now you have the choice – picking and choosing when to mine and which coin to mine. This gives GPUs the upperhand and can greatly increase profits.
The prerequisite to mining is having a machine installed with a modern GPU. For a typical gamer or a Deep Learning researcher, you would probably have a Windows 10 machine ready to be deployed for Ethereum mining.
You’ll want to work in an Ethereum Mining Pool. Think of solving block hashes as buying lottery tickets, the more computers working on a block the higher chance you have to solve. Being in a pool with thousands will give you a more consistent payout than mining alone.
