This is why I have somewhat regularly pointed out (well, at least a few times), that ethash isn’t really memory-hard, it is memory-capacity-hard. And requiring memory-capacity certainly doesn’t make an algorith sufficiently memory hard.
The most important part of a mining rig is the video cards. Currently the most effective cards are the GeForce 1070 and AMD RX 470/480/570/580. One of the newest and most powerful GPUs for mining is the AMD Vega 64 8GB which can reach 46MH/s.
More nodes does not increase the ability to handle traffick on any of the existing coins. Mining doesnt ‘add value’ in any other way than helping secure the network, and solving the problem of issuance. (As PoS issuance is effectively not issuance, it is evenly distributed over existing users)
don’t use PCI-E splitters because it won’t probably work, because the main reason for this is, that the motherboard caps to the GPU’s (PCI-E lanes used) are connected. (some Motherboards can handle 8 GPU’s without integrated GPU enabled, but that can cause instability and it’s not worth the risk).
it’s hard to tell if one GPU produces memory errors or if it’s something bad with the GPU, that would cause it to break in the longer run (Windows has strong tools like HWinfo64 that can tell you precise if your GPU is working properly or if it’s unstable)
We’re going to basically do the reverse with the memory clock speed, but there are some important things to know. If you have a GPU that is factory-clocked at 1750 mhz or less (virtually every 4GB RX 470/480 GPU, and most RX 470 8GB GPUs as well—the Sapphire Nitro being the notable exception—then 1750 mhz is going to probably be your limit via this method. Increasing the memory clock beyond 1750 mhz will likely result in a change to less-aggressive memory timings that will result in a loss of performance, and there is no way to prevent this outside of BIOS modifications. So if you have a card clocked at under 1750 mhz, bump it up to exactly 1750 mhz, which will give you a decent performance boost. If you have a 2000 mhz card, you can increase it incrementally, like the reverse of what we did with the core clock. Eventually you’ll experience system instability: artifacts on the screen, a GPU crash, bluescreen, etc. When that happens, back down a bit until things are stable.
In addition to recording the performance of each card at stock clock rates and after memory overclocking, we also tried to optimize the GPU/GDDR5 frequencies and GPU voltage to achieve the highest hash rate possible at the lowest power consumption. In other words, we shot for the best possible efficiency in a search for each board’s sweet spot.
Yes, GTX 1070 or GTX 1070Ti are the best cards that you can buy. They can really mine Ethereum as well as Zcash at a good output. Talking about the power it might use somewhere in between 180W to 200W per GPU.
For example, the GTX 1050 Ti doesn’t have a very high hashrate. However, it doesn’t consume much power either. In fact, buying four 1050 Ti’s would cost you the same as buying one R9 295X2 and they have a higher profit ratio.
When you use a remote mining provider, they usually just rent or sell you a portion of their mining setup’s hashing power. However, if you are controlling your own mining rig, you know that you control the full capabilities of your machine and therefore are getting the full hashing power available to your hardware. One thing to note is that while the cost of graphic cards continues to rise due to cryptocurrency mining, you should do a cost benefit analysis on how much hash rate you’ll get for your investment.
The R9 390 and 390X look great. They aren’t much slower than the Titan XP and 1080 Ti. The GTX 1080 tanks though and surprisingly the GTX 1070 is faster here, apparently this is down to an issue GDDR5X has when it comes to mining, despite offering more memory bandwidth it’s actually slower for mining, go figure.
This video card is the older brother to the RX 580. For some cryptocurrencies, the AMD RX 480 actually outperforms the RX 580, but I put it at number 3 on the list since it is discontinued and somewhat difficult to find other than on the used market. My favorite model, of course, is the AMD Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ (Model #11260-20-20G). If you can find these at a decent price point (again, always worth checking eBay), they are a great value.

Bis dahin werden die Abstände zwischen den Blöcken auf voraussichtlich mehr als 20, vielleicht sogar auf 30 Sekunden angewachsen sein. Diese Verknappung der Erzeugung neuer Ether mag für Spekulanten reizvoll sein. Diejenigen, die hingegen mit Ethereum arbeiten wollen, werden zu diesem Zeitpunkt beginnen, sich zu wünschen, dass die Entwickler ihrem Zeitplan folgen werden.
Es ist nicht einfach, professionelles und profitables Bitcoin Mining zu betreiben. @Brips somebody else tested my CUDA miner on a GTX980 and the result wasn’t spectacular, roughly the same speed as OpenCL. On my todo list now first is getting the CMake config right, so you guys can build it for Ubuntu, and after that adding additional kernel tuning parameters so you can achieve maximum thread occupancy depending on the card you use.

GPU mining has benefits to the network not discussed here, which is why coins like Monero are unlikely to go to ASIC. New blockchains like Ethereum can perform different types of calculations on the blockchain. Because of this, you are unlikely to ever see ASICs on Ethereum. There will always be a significant number of coins that are ASIC-resistant. The chances that one of those coins becomes profitable is higher than picking a singular coin and hoping that that one coin succeeds.

Step 16 Hashing Power benchmark: If you want to get an estimation of your hashing power you can run ethminer -M (for CPU mining) or ethminer -G -M (for GPU mining). The command will run and you should get a result similar to the image bellow.

From what I understand the algorithm that ethereum uses can’t be done better with Asics by design. Being the 2nd largest crypto for so long I would expect the market to already be flooded if they could.
In the early days of GPU mining, AMD cards were the clear winners, in terms of performance. More recent Nvidia cards (such as the Titan range) match or even exceed the performance of AMD cards. Mining performance for certain coins may be better or worse, depending on the manufacturer.

Tools like SMOS or EthOS are very expensive and they offer you as they describe it: “Simple” mining monitoring solutions. Their tools for overclock and undervolt are not working properly. Those Linux based OS CAN’T have the same Overclock/Undervolt settings as on Windows, or they will crash because of poor driver support (800mV on Memory works on most GPU’s under Windows, but almost none on Linux…).
