I am telling you right now that with the broad innovation that Ethereum brings to the table combined with an instant network of transaction processors eager to climb onboard would give Ethereum a fantastic start. Far better than building a new processing network. If you read my above post “Ode to GPU mining” you’ll see that GPU mining is and has shown to be very well distributed and provides excellent and accessible avenues for true enthusiasts to really contribute above and beyond average users who will probably care more about the functionality of Ethereum more than mining it.

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me with a bios modification question. I have a rig running mostly rx470 mining editions, are these cards already maxed out when it comes to tweeking their bios? Im asking becuase i have tryed to tweek them in the past and run into issues and a loss in hash rate…
Your machine’s success at mining coins will be determined by the hashrate afforded by its processor and GPU(s). If you’re unsure whether your machine is powerful enough to mine cryptocurrency at all, click on ‘Benchmark’ in the top bar, then on ‘Start Benchmark’.

According to “Science and Technology News,” the exclusive grasp of the news, bit mainland China is about to launch mining for the Eupean F3 models, the design is to increase the DRAM bus bandwidth, but also to increase the size of the memory. If you’re building a dedicated mining rig, then you probably want your mining rig to boot up and start mining automatically, without any user intervention. We’ll need to enable for that to be possible.
Nvidia GPU’s CANNOT be bios moded, which makes them a bit easier to setup. For them it’s best to only use MSI Afterburner to overclock and limit their power draw. The downside is that you can’t get the maximum out of them, cause we can’t replace the memory timings.
The other piece of the puzzle, of course, is making sure that the components are OPEN CL/CUDA device compatible, so that they interface with the current miners, and I don’t also have to write my own additional miner.  All in all, if it was truly a profitable venture, you would see someone with money to blow doing just that.

Great guide, I wish I had this a few months ago before I started mknkn. I’ve gone through all this the hard way which is good but this guide is very clear and straightforward. Having said that I wonder if you would have any idea how to fix the issue I have come across. After mining for two weeks on windows 10 with claymore on nanopool @ 6 x 1070 GeForce. My miner went offline. It says “ cannot write a buffer for DAG” CUDA error 77. It also says “an illegal instruction was encountered” and “calc DAG failed” I have increased the virtual memory but that did not work. My hard drive says it has not 15gb of 110.
OK, so that sounds like a pretty serious error, the card is halting its mining operation for some reason. It could be overheating or experiencing some other kind of hardware or software error. Can you find the log file? Reading it would probably reveal why the card is giving problems. I believe adding the “-dbg 1” switch will create a log file which will help for troubleshooting.
It is possible that the Ethereum Platform will not be used by a large number of external businesses, individuals, and other organizations and that there will be limited public interest in the creation and development of distributed applications. Such a lack of interest could impact the development of the Ethereum Platform and potential uses of ETH. I’m going to assume that everyone reading this is capable of installing a fresh copy of Windows. Complete the installation and boot into the Windows desktop before proceeding to the next step. If necessary, also install the LAN/Ethernet driver that came with your motherboard so that you can get online.
Step 4: Command Prompt is now open – and can look terrifying to people who aren’t familiar with it. The Command Prompt box usually has C:\Users\Username> showing in it – where Username is your username – so if you log into your computer with the username cryptocompare then the command prompt box will open with C:\Users\cryptocompare>. You need to tell the computer to look in another place Type cd / into the newly opened command prompt. You should now see “C:\>”, You have just used the cd command or “change directory” command to make command prompt look at the C:/ drive.
DON’T overload your PSU! For example, an 1000W gold PSU should NEVER be forced over the 800W power draw for max efficiency, you might end up destroying it. please don’t buy cheap PSU’s for running your mining rig 24/7! If you run PSU at 100% a lot of bad things can happen, I have confirmed from a lot of sources that. If you already have so expensive components, the worst thing would be to save money on your PSU.
The key points to emphasize are follow this guide step by step and you will get it work. This is a VERY BASIC guide. There’s a lot of optimization involved, but this guide is meant to get you up and running within 24 hours.
