Yesterday I bought 6 AMD RX580s because I got a smoking deal on them. It all just depends on the economics of the moment. Its still really hard to beat the performance/energy/price ratio of the GTX 1060 though.

Hi Bhavesh, OK, this seems to be a fairly common error but it’s beyond my capabilities to diagnose precisely from that log. Thanks to both of you, I have checked my worker stats and I am mining at around 16.5~MHs, I have a GTX970, I think this hashrate is roughly whats expected of it. One thing that I do not have is an 0x (to signify a hexadecimal number) before my address, is this something I need? I havent had any payouts yet, but I think dwarfpool pays out at 1 Ether anyway

When looking at mining for profits, it should be approached like any other business venture. The best GPU for mining cryptocurrency will be the one that has the best combination of hashrate, price, and power consumption. This is the card that will have the highest return on investment over a certain period of time (usually 6 months). This definitely will not be the fastest card on the market.  You’ll also want to consider time of ownership and resale value. Either you will run these cards until they die, or you will replace them annually with faster hardware. Again, all in your ROI equation. It’s super important to do your research and completely ignore YouTube comments, as much of them are completely wrong.  You wouldn’t get stock market advice from YouTube comments would you?
The quality of the equipment would also play a role. E.g. if you buy the cheapest versions of either a 1080ti or a 1060, they’re going to be more likely to fail. Is it more cost effective to buy more-robust GPUs at a higher price that will last longer? Or is it better to keep replacing cheap ones more often? Difficult to answer, since GPU prices are crazy.

The diff change value is calculated by looking at the current difficulty and comparing it to the 12 hour moving average of the difficulty one month ago. For smaller coins the diff change can sometimes be inaccurate due to a wildly fluctuating difficulty.

My single most important piece of advice to miners is to make sure you have a near 100% uptime, because if your miner shuts down while you at school, work, overnight, or while you’re on holiday you will lose out on gaining a large portion of your profits. One of the easiest ways to secure your stability is to have safe overclocks, and by testing your rigs. Instability can often be caused by too high of an overclock, or by faulty risers. I also highly recommend the EthOS Linux Distro. EthOS is an operating system specifically made for mining Ethereum and other cryptos alike, such as ZCash, Monero, and many more. The OS is extremely stable and if your rig crashes, the OS will boot up and start mining straight away. The OS also supports up to 16 AMD or NVidia graphics card, which is a huge step up from Windows, which supports a maximum of 8.
However, the cost of mining is far from free in this modern day digital gold rush. Hardware costs and energy consumption represent real financial commitment. Regardless, if you build your own systems or are a PC enthusiast, there’s a good chance you have the spare parts lying around to slap a mining rig together and get cracking.  
Great guide, I wish I had this a few months ago before I started mknkn. I’ve gone through all this the hard way which is good but this guide is very clear and straightforward. Having said that I wonder if you would have any idea how to fix the issue I have come across. After mining for two weeks on windows 10 with claymore on nanopool @ 6 x 1070 GeForce. My miner went offline. It says “ cannot write a buffer for DAG” CUDA error 77. It also says “an illegal instruction was encountered” and “calc DAG failed” I have increased the virtual memory but that did not work. My hard drive says it has not 15gb of 110.

Set up SSH: If you’re going to set up SSH, there are two important things you need to do. Firstly, set up port forwarding on your router, so that traffic redirects to your rig. Secondly, use the below commands, to change the SSH port to something different e.g. 2221. While this won’t stop an attack if there is a port scan, it will reduce the possibility of an attack by a crawler. You can also consider using private & public keys to 100% ensure that only you can access the rig.

Of course this card costs a whopping $3000 each.  Six Titan V GPUs in a miner would get you a 492 MH/s rate while setting you back a cool $18,000 USD.  And with a power demand of 250 watts you’ll be mining for 17 months before you break even. But then you don’t care about profit right?
2.3 You need to open up another command prompt as in step 4 – so your going to get two scary looking boxes. Simply click right click on your already open command prompt in the taskbar at the bottom of the page and click on command prompt in the menu that appears. A new command prompt should open with C:\users\username>. This is the wrong place to look for ethminer so you need to tell it the right place to find it.
