Hello, I was wondering if you could help me with a bios modification question. I have a rig running mostly rx470 mining editions, are these cards already maxed out when it comes to tweeking their bios? Im asking becuase i have tryed to tweek them in the past and run into issues and a loss in hash rate…

Does this miner also work for Litecoin purposes, or do you need different hardware for litecoin? Also, can this be set up to mine both/either litecoin/ethereum, at the same time or alternating? I really don’t want to be restricted to only one coin. Excellent guides, BTW

Hätte ich letztes Jahr stattdessen Ether für 50 € direkt gekauft, wären es über 5 ETH, die heute über 1000 € wert wären. Die Frage ist also: Was ist 2017 profitabler? So the platform itself has general practical value above all other crypto’s and that value grows with broader adoption. The high profitability of mining now is only because the mining infrastructure has not been able to keep pace with the growth in value. The huge Chinese farms that are coming online now are putting a huge dent in the equation though.

As my title says, I am a complete newbie to the Ethereum Project, but not to the cryptography in general. Although this will be the first time I will consider investing in the mining process. And I just would like to know, what is the best current hardware is out there for mining, and where best to find available in stock to ship.
The ideal GPU when it comes to mining Ethereum is one which offers the highest hash-rate at the lowest power. Currently there are GPUs which provide hash-rates up to 46MH/s at the upper end and at the lower end there are GPUs which offer a hash-rate of about 24MH/s. There are many others which offer a lower hash-rate but they are quite slow and would take a long time to generate Ethereum.
There’s been a massive influx of newbies due to media hype and I hope they either die out or get smart. This isn’t a get rich quick scheme, it’s a meatgrinder and money pit for people who don’t understand crypto well enough. People who basically started learning this year about Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc have no idea how badly they can screw themselves here.
Whichever card you decide on, be prepared to spend a lot of shopping time at the various retailers and resellers. Only then can you hope to find that coin at a “fair” price. Mining has really inflated GPU prices across the board, which is a good indicator that GPU mining is still profitable—if you play your cards right.
my point was, that if I really don’t make any income from mining (but my other work I do as a developer), I have this -1000€ still in my taxes (for hardware). so if I made 10.000€ (for simplicity) with my developer job and have to pay 20% taxes, I now only have to pay 20% of 9000€ (1800€) as before 2000€ for 10k. So my expense of 1000€ was in fact only 800€. and as i live in a country with high income taxes and social security, it’s not 20% but close to 50% 😉

2) Graphics Card – Pick your GPUs! Some graphics cards cost a fortune but don’t hash much whilst some are more reasonable but use more power. Ultimately its a balance between how powerful you want your rig to be and how much you want to spend – but a word to the wise – make sure you pick an efficient GPU. You can buy second hand GPU’s from reputable providers such as GPU Shack – be careful though when you buy them off a street corner as often they have problems that you won’t see until you get the card home and plugged in.
The current top gaming graphics card, NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, delivers the highest Ethereum hash rate but it also consumes drastically more power under load when mining, versus more midrange cards like the GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX 480. Furthermore, with a bit of memory clock and power target tuning, the GTX 1070 can deliver a higher hashrate, while still maintaining a much lower power draw than the 1080.

The GPU is still the biggest factor in determining mining performance and which card you have matters greatly. AMD cards are still king in total mining performance, just as they were in Bitcoin’s early days. Nvidia microarchitecture (through Maxwell) wasn’t focused on general purpose computing like AMD’s Graphics Core Next. Actual hash rates will vary between different mining software, operating systems, and drivers, but even a GTX 980 Ti can’t keep up with, say, an older mid-range AMD card. Nvidia has made changes in Pascal that make 10-series cards quite capable miners. Then again, if you’re using a recent generation Nvidia card for mining, you’re more likely mining on the side with your current machine rather than making a dedicated mining system out of spare parts.
Basically, today we’ve installed the panel and connected all the plugs and power cables. Safety is always a priority for us so we’ve made sure to make the installation according to all norms. We’ve also tested it and everything works perfectly. I feel so good about it – the amount of cables to connect was quite intimidating at first, but eventually we’ve managed to plug the right wires to the right places.
Generally, any motherboard with PCIe slots on it is suitable for mining—typically one GPU per PCIe slot. The PCIe slots don’t need to be full-length, as we can attach GPUs to 1x slots with the help of risers. With that said, there are potentially some limitations when you start to pack a large number (4+) of GPUs onto one motherboard, even if that board has enough PCIe slots to physically accommodate them. That’s why picking a suitable motherboard is probably your biggest hardware headache if you want to run as many GPUs as possible in your rig.

What kind of GPUs would you use? Do you have any examples? I’ve heard of external GPUs for workstation docks. In theory, it should work, since cryptomining generally runs off the GPU and doesn’t use the CPU very much.
Very easy to setup. Hash rates and returns are quite decent for the money considering you don’t need to worry about buying the hardware, setting it up, or paying for power. Setting up a mining rig is annoying, loud and hot! This is much nicer =)
So with no other alt-coins and no GPU PoW, your options are to try and sell on a depressed market, or to actually realise the actual comput value of having kickass super computers in your lounge room.
Ethereum is about to switch from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake scheme called Casper. Some of the included incentives for this transition are higher scalability, improved protocol economics, environmental friendliness, and easier implementation of sharding protocols. It is currently not yet decided when Ethereum is switching to PoS, but it’s reasonable to expect that it will occur in late 2018. If Ethereum switches to proof of stake, not sure what role miners will have, but it’s possible that Ethereum mining will no longer be possible after that, unless a hybrid Proof of Work/Proof of Stake model is implemented.
