There is an ever greater threat to mining profitability approaching in the near future: Ethereum is soon moving to a proof-of-stake model with the Casper Protocol. When this happens, something expected in 2-3 years, traditional mining will no longer work and mining rigs will become obsolete. Rigs will no longer be able to generate streams of revenue from Ethereum mining. Instead, only by locking in stake will “stakers” (as opposed to miners), be able to profit from the Ethereum Blockchain. To be a staker you will no longer need the complicated hashing power of GPUs that proof-of-work required.
Even so, you can still use these calculators by thinking clearly about the costs involved. Profitability calculators (for example, The Genesis Block) often ask for your electricity costs, and sometimes the initial investment in hardware. Effectively, you are being asked for your ongoing costs and your one-off investments.
There are currently about 2.5 million GPUs mining Ethereum. The rating for efficiency can be determined by dividing the hashrate by the power draw. This is a primary indicator, which shows how profitable your mining operations will be in the future (after the payback period), given that electricity is a fixed, ongoing cost. The more efficient your card (newer cards are usually more efficient), the more profitable it will be once you’ve received the ROI.
I don’t understand why others ASIC resistant cryptocurrencies such as Vertcoin and Monero aren’t worth mining. At all. It’s not worth buying a high-end GPU to mine these coins even for those who don’t have to pay for electricity bill. But I do. And it’s pretty expensive here (~$0.121) .
Interesting read. Unfortunately for me, I don’t have the luxury of hanging to test products (for free, especially)… then again I don’t have anything to test, beyond what I grab for my own use. I’ve got old hardware, but only one GPU with more than a Gig of RAM and I need that for my everyday driver.

There are many miners who are doing mining rig using cheap electricity due to geographical advantage like in China, Iceland etc. Using this with an efficient number of GPU’s increases the chances of mining ether faster and more in number. However, as more common people are getting into this network, time to mine per ether has increased vastly and thus, profitability depends on numerous factors.
A: You can use any ETH wallet address for mining, but some exchanges do not allow mining or do not allow very small deposits so double check with the site if mining directly to a web-deposit address.  A good alternative to downloading the full Mist wallet and Ethereum blockchain is MyEtherWallet.com, which still allows you to manage your Ether wallet address and maintain control of your private keys (which is important for security wallet backup and restoration if needed).  
Well right now its still profitable but if the price drops below 0.02ETH and difficulty will keep going up like 40-50% everymonth then most likely in 2 months it won’t be worth the hassle…. its a gamble.

This can be important 1) to know your power costs 2) if your rig hangs you can cut power using the iCoostor and then when you restore power (all remotely) you can have the BIOS set to automatically reboot your rig. That combined with the automated startup scripts provided on this site will have you back up and mining in minutes from anywhere you have an internet connection using only your smartphone.
We will note that your rig won’t have a power button so you’ll need to jump the power switch pins on the motherboard. We used a screw driver to tap the pins to start the rig, but you could also buy a power button.
The Total Profits view predicts what your overall profitability will be in the future. This is calculated by taking your current profits and adding them to each following months profits while factoring in the changing difficulty (diff change), the diff change factor can be disabled. This view assumes the price of the coin will stay the same. If you wish to account for a changing price (ie if you think the price will rise in the future), switch to the “Coins Generated” view.
TJ Hooker, an AC unit takes MORE than 1W of electricity to remove 1W of heat. Air conditioning (and all heat exchangers for that matter) are not energy efficient. 2nd law of thermodynamics, and all that jazz. If he’s pumping 1000W of heat into the room, he’s probably using close to 1500W-2000W of air conditioning to offset it.
