Start out small. I don’t recommend starting out by buying hundreds of graphics cards and miners, especially if you have no previous experience with mining. If you start out small you can easily upgrade in the future by either adding rigs to your farm, or by adding graphics cards to your rigs.

We recently explored the idea of building a mining rig at no cost, simply using older parts we had lying on the shelf. I tried to ask this question on Bitcoin forum for Claytons mining software, but can’t figure out how to post the question in the right place. I have set everything up as you said and am mining Ether at 1600Mh/s, but I am apparently mining Decred as well at 1550Mh/s because the batch file from the Clayton miner has in the batch. This guide is going to show you how to build an Ethereum Mining rig yourself which has two main steps – choosing and sourcing your equipment and then putting it together! Depending on times its probably going to take you a week or so to get all the pieces and then another half a day fiddling with configurations etc. Its the same as building your own computer normally but with a few extra considerations that mainly involve which GPU’s you pick.

Enable Autostart for the program, and adjust the monitoring settings – enable network monitoring and type ‘google.com,’ then enable process monitoring as well, typing in ‘cmd.exe.’

Yes yes and yes. I’m 100% you here. The issue is if the difficulty currently keeps increasing as it has, there will be no 6 or 8 month ROI it will never come. Unless it really really flattens out it will be infinity ROI for any miner getting in now unless they’re getting their GPU’s for $120/card or so. And yeah we’ve discussed this before and it ultimately comes down to the fact that no one knows the future so it’s all about what you think will happen.
And you believe that our current monetary system is based in reality? How is a $100 bill printed on paper (not backed by gold or any other valuable tangible object) any more ‘real’ than any of these cryptocurrencies? You do realize that every dollar the U.S. government prints is printed with interest, right? The same strategy applies for other hardware. All my motherboards are used, ram used. New ssd and power supplies but if you’re going to be profitable in this market you have to be as lean as possible.
Another risk, though small, is that if you decide to mine on the ETHash algorithm you have to make sure you have enough VRAM (Video Random Access Memory) on the graphics card, as the networks DAG (Directed Acrylic Graph) will be stored on the VRAM. So if you do not have a large enough VRAM size on your GPU you will not be able to mine that coin. At the moment, Ethereum’s DAG file size is 2.1 GB meaning that you will have to mine on a card with more than 2 GBs of VRAM. You can check the DAG size for some popular coins using this website.

I was sure Cloud-Mining is more profitable, because of the high Ethereum price. If I would buy 10 Ether today, it would cost me about 2300 $. I can get the same amount of Ether much cheaper with Cloud-Mining. With around 37 MH/s Ethereum Mining Power, I will get over 10.4 Ether after 1 year and it only costs about 1090 € at Genesis Mining and it is mining 2 years. So after 2 years you will get about 20 Ether back for only 1090 € instead of 10 Ether for 2300 $ if you buy it today directly.

If you are looking for a solid Ethereum mining hardware, then the Titan cards are something you should look into. GeForce Titan Xp impressed many miners. The large amounts of VRAM are supplemented by an excellent hash rate without too much expenditure of power. Same as RX Vega 64, its top-end AMD rival, this card can be overclocked up to 42 Mh/s, but it will consume 300 W when pushed that hard. I just started about four weeks ago and was lucky enough to amass 20 cards in this short span in this market all for under $300, some used and new, except one at $305. Power related fees can be another obstacle; billing practices and procedures vary in regards to electricity, exceedingly more between different countries, but pricing is commonly calculated in kilowatts per hour. Ideally, having no or low energy costs would be preferable, renewable energy comes to mind, as do other shadowy options (miners in less regulated communities often siphon off of the grid directly, what basically amounts to mining with no overhead).
First Choice Nvidia GTX 1070 –   The very efficient Nvidia GTX 1070  can produce a hash rate of 30Mh/s using only 100 watts of electricity and is the best GPU for mining in 2018. It is much more power efficient than most of the AMD cards available on the market. My favorite model of this GPU is the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 Windforce OC (model # GV-N1070WF2OC-8GD). It has a twin fan design and seems to run cooler than some of the other 1070 models I’ve tested, so I put this card in all the rigs I build currently. Mining works by connecting to the blockchain and verifying transactions by verifying new blocks in the blockchain. By doing this they are securing the network and preventing errors from happening such as double spending. The miners put these blocks through a process by applying a mathematical formula to it, turning the numbers into a shorter, random looking sequence of numbers. This number is the blockchain’s hash. Producing hashes from the data of a blockchain’s block is easy, however it is impossible to work out what the starting data was just by looking at the hash. Each hash is unique and changing even a single character in the hash changes it completely.
