When choosing the CPU, you only need the bare minimum. I wouldn’t recommend getting the absolute cheapest, but one or two points above. The reason for this, is that some extra processing power is useful when setting up and makes reboots slightly quicker. I chose to go with the Intel Celeron G1840.
The card also excels at mining, reaching 70 MH/s with stock settings. But it increases up to 82 MH/s when it’s pushed to its limits. In the raw hash power stakes, this card puts Nvidia far ahead in the raw hash-power stakes, and beats out AMD’s closest rival, the Radeon RX Vega 64. It only reaches about 45 MH/s and consumes more power.
Certain hashing algorithms are designed to prevent a massive ASIC advantage over GPU or CPU mining. However, the truth is an ASIC can be designed for any coin. It’s simply a matter of calculating how much money it would take to develop the ASIC, and how much your profits improve by doing so. For Bitcoin’s SHA-256 algorithm, an ASIC would increase your hash rate tremendously and Bitcoin’s price and transaction fees make it very profitable to mine. For other coins with more memory intensive algorithms and lower prices, you might not see a quick return on your ASIC investment.

Currently, Ethereum uses the Proof of work (PoW) system- this has been the arm supporting blockchain technologies like bitcoin and Ethereum. Proof-of-work refers to the solving of complex equations, which is a basic requirement for a miner to clear for their block to be added to the blockchain. This system has been picked apart for the environmental damage and electric cost it generates. However, through the use of the Dagger Hashimoto algorithm, Ethereum created a way that permits simple home computers to mine efficiently with little expenditure necessary.
Hopefully at this step everything is great. In the command prompt or PowerShell you used above, cd into /cpp-ethereum/ethminer/Debug. You’re going to see a file called `libcurld.dll`. Make a copy of that file and place it in the same directory, removing the ‘d’ in the name to make it `libcurl.dll`. I’m not sure why, but there’s some build error which causes that name to be incorrect, which causes ethminer to fail at runtime.
The remaining question is the significance of the network difficulty. Imagine the guessing game of between 1 to 10, the difficulty that one can guess it right is the chance of 1/10. We say the equivalent of 1 guess is equal 1 hash, the difficult is 10. In average, a player needs to guess 5 times before a guess is hitting the correct number. However, if this guessing game is having too many guesses happening in a short time, the correct guess may happen too fast. The guessing game’s maker (the whole network) will automatically adjust the difficulty, adjusting from 10 to 100, to reduce the correct guess happening too fast. This is the essence of using the network difficulty to control how fast a correct guess can happen.
Whatever the hardware, whatever the GPU : it will heat anyway, a lot. The processing units will be at almost 100% of charge 24/7, so a good cooling is needed. For example, a controlled and well dissipated GPU will – at least – end up with 170 ºF (75 C°). A desktop computer case ? No way. It’s all about airflow. You can add box fans if you want.
– The DAG size is currently about 1.45 GB. You need at LEAST a 1.5 GB video card to mine for now. In a few months, 2 GB will be the minimum. The DAG MAY REACH (most likely not though) 3 GB before Proof of stake. It may not… but what I do know is that they’re working on a way to “split” the DAG in simplest terms. A 4GB card may not even be needed.

It is very easy to burn out your GPUs – I’ve done in two, but luckily got warranty replacements. The first just stopped working after one day. And one of the fans got “sticky” in the second one after a few months.
   You can also specify negative values if you don’t want to restart miner due to pool connection issues; for example, “-minspeed -50” will restart miner only if it cannot reach 50Mh/s at good pool connection.
The AMD Radeon R9 NANO gets an impressive 27 MH/s, but that’s all you can really get on that model as AMD doesn’t allow you to overclock the HBM memory and if you reduce the power usage at all the hashrate drops as well. This 175W TDP card has good performance, but at $515 it will take a longer time to recoup your money. You can actually buy two Radeon RX 480/580 cards for this price and overclock them to get up to 27 MH/s and reduce the power usage/voltage to get about 40-50W lower power use per card. The AMD Radeon R9 390 gets an impressive 30 MH/s in stock form, but the cards 275W TDP makes is less desirable.

I’ve recently gotten back into the mining scene, and I’ve decided to mine Ethereum (or ETH). been mining Monero lately (which I might also set up a guide for at a later date) and has proven to be somewhat profitable. However, at this moment in time ETH is the most profitable coin to mine, whether it be to convert into Bitcoin (BTC) or into a fiat currency. Even though I have years of experience of mining under my belt, it was a hassle (to say the least!) on how to mine ETH. My recollection of how Bitcoin turned out indicates that most of those people will not make money. That, in fact, the simple rules of how markets work mean that most cannot make money, on several counts:

I was able to get about a 10% performance gain over factory settings while reducing power consumption at the same time. That’s good, but we can do better (sometimes much better!) if we’re willing to venture into the world of GPU BIOS mods—and I’ll show you how to do exactly that in the next section of my guide.
Overclocking: Overclocking is the simpler of the two methods. Windows and ethOS support these easily through Wattman and ethos-overclocking respectively. The general rule of thumb is that increasing the mem clock by 10% increases your hashrate by 10%. You can also change the core clock. However, this has a smaller effect. Also, reducing core clock can be beneficial because it can reduce your power use and while your hashrate will be slightly lower, you could be positive overall as you’ll be using less power. The right core/mem balance will depend on your electricity cost and hashrate.
Vereinfacht funktioniert es, dass z.B. ab 1MB durchschnittlicher Blocksize der letzten 100 Blöcke auf zwei Chains geshardet wird und auf eine kommen alle Transaktionen, deren Hash mit 0-7 beginnt, auf die zweite alle mit 8-f. Jede Chain hat dann lediglich ihre Transaktionen und benötigt dann nur den jeweils letzten Blockhash der anderen Chain. Falls die Blöcke im Schnitt wieder auf >1MB wachsen, gibt es einen Shard auf 4 Chains. Auch eine Zusammenführung wäre denkbar, wenn die Blocksize auf unter die Hälfte sinkt… Und es wäre natürlich großen Betreibern überlassen, allen Chains zu folgen (und auch zu minen), wenn sie dies für schnellere Verifizierung benötigen. Natürlich ist das alles noch sehr vage und theoretisch, Details müssten definiert, implementiert und ausgiebig getestet werden. Mit zk-Snarks gibt es heute auch eine Möglichkeit, die jeweils andere Chain zu verifizieren, ohne deren Inhalt zu kennen. Diese halte ich aber noch für zu wenig getestet und wenn selbst Zooko meint, es ist Magie, die er nicht versteht, aber seinen Coin darauf aufbaut, sollte man vorsichtig sein. Für mich ist das jedoch der Erfolg versprechendste Ansatz für eine wirklich dezentrale Kryptowährung, die auch skalierbar ist.
Wenn man jedoch genau hinschaut, erkennt man, dass die Difficulty ein Stückchen rascher ansteigt als die Hashrate. Eigentlich sollte beides synchron verlaufen bzw. die Hashrate sollte der Difficulty vorauseilen.

Hello, first, thank you for the tutorial, miner appears to be functioning. Hoever, it’s not working properly on my machine. I keep getting a Watchdog Error: must restart GPU. Please help me sort this error out. Thanks.
