Awesome beginners build guide for an energy efficient mining rig! I have read through it several times and finally purchased the parts you recommended. However, I am not sure what power brick/adapter I need to get to maximize the potential of the picoPSU you recommended: https://www.amazon.com/Mini-Box-picoPSU-160-XT-Power-Mini-ITX-Supply/dp/B005TWE6B8/ref=as_at?creativeASIN=B005TWE6B8&linkCode=w50&tag=mak041-20&imprToken=jre1Yx45yo8HG1jqJ7Y0zw&slotNum=0
CryptUnit is an interesting new service offering up to date data for Cryptonote-based altcoins that you can mine, giving you profitability information along with more details about each of the supported coins. You just need to enter your Cryptonight hashrate and the service will calculate what is the most profitable coin to mine at the moment and give you some extra useful information such as pools and exchanges if you are not familiar with the coin. Of course profitability varies all the time, so things change and the most profitable coins vary all the time. Currently the service covers 16 different Cryptonote coins that can be mined with CPU or GPU (both AMD and Nvidia). The people most interested in this service are probably going to be the ones with AMD-based video cards especially RX VEGA 56/64 due to their very high mining performance especially in the Cryptonight algorithm.
And I know that it won’t take me a couple grand to get a 1 GH rig. If it only took that much, I’m pretty sure the global hash rate for Ether mining would be much, much higher. I meant ‘a couple grand’ on your idea of building a smaller rig.
These figures will change based on when you run this analysis, but for purposes of the example here we would net 109 ETH annually. If sold at the current price, $1537 will be earned from which we subtract the electricity cost of $493. This nets a respectable profit of $1045.
I’ve had success both ways and so if you run into an issue with one method delete the drivers and try the other method.  And if you do need to remove your drivers use the DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) program from Guru3d.com to remove everything cleanly and then start over.
The current top gaming graphics card, NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, delivers the highest Ethereum hash rate but it also consumes drastically more power under load when mining, versus more midrange cards like the GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX 480. Furthermore, with a bit of memory clock and power target tuning, the GTX 1070 can deliver a higher hashrate, while still maintaining a much lower power draw than the 1080.
That would depend on what RX you have as each one as different hashrates for different algos…as I speak the RX 580 would get you $5.58 profit mining Pirl but only $4.41 profit mining Eth, check whattomine to see whats more profitable on that day
These cards are quite effective when it comes to power consumption and they are long considered the workhorse of GPU mining. The cards from the RX 400 and 500 series feature a really amazing cooling and can boast a performance that ideally matches the initial price, but the time has sadly arrived when the cards from these series must be put out to pasture – at least for Ethereum mining purposes. Yet, you can use an RX 580/570/480/470 only for mining altcoins, but unless you can find them at a good price, you should shun the rip-off prices that sellers often charge for these cards.
You are probably aware that Bitcoin cloud mining had a few issues in the past. There were a lot of companies that were deceptive. They pretended to have mining facilities, often taking photos from other providers and claiming them as their own, but in reality, they did not own anything, and they just took your money. Cloud mining providers often disappeared with your Bitcoins (we already lost some money when we tested various cloud mining providers for our readers).
The problem is that motherboards with 2 x16 PCIe slots (either 2.0 or 3.0 should work) tend to cost quite a bit. Currently, I believe that people are buying older high end boards and using Celeron processors (which are the lowest tier for socketed processors) in order to get a board that’s within an affordable price bracket. PCIe is an older socket, so in theory you should be able to go back pretty far and find something that works.
Zwolle, The Netherlands – Bluemining.net is pleased to announce our new cloud mining service. bluemining.net that enables anyone to participate in ethereum mining without the need of purchasing specialized hardware.

SharkMining is one of a kind company developing operating system designed for mining rigs only. SharkOS – served-grade Linux based operating systems with smart control and protection features. Most of mining rigs on the market are based on Windows operating system. Desktop operating system like Windows is not designed for use cases like mining. You will get frequent freezes, unstable mining experience and lower mining speed.
Pour les calculs de rentabilité du cloud mining, je n’ai prise en compte que les rendements et l’investissement de départ. Il y a des subtilités à certains contrats qui rendent les comparaisons plus précises impossibles.
I think Monero has great potential and I am thrilled it’s available at Genesis Mining. I already know I can expect regular payouts from Genesis Mining on a crypto-currency I think will grow in value as others enter the crypto-space.
Electricity costs vary from country to country. Mining consumes a lot of electricity. Apart from the power consumed by your mining hardware you might need to cool the room, this adds to your potential electricity costs. If you can keep your electricity costs minimal, you are bound to enjoy healthy returns on your investment. An efficient PSU is a shrewd investment if you look at the long run. Plus if you choose the most energy-efficient GPU that can offer a respectable hash rate, you’ll cut your power bills.
I update the calculator on 2 weeks basis. Dude, I am normal human beings, not a robot. I like cycling, swimming, beer etc. Just let you know I use data from my own genesis-mining.com account. So it is real, honest and nearly up to date:)
The Radeon R9 295X2 is currently the most popular GPU when it comes to mining Ethereum. It offers a hash-rate of 46 MH/s and is the industry leader when it comes to hashing power. The R9 295X2 consumes a power of 500W. This GPU is in high demand and tends to get sold out as soon as it goes on stock. It comes with an 8GB GDDR5 RAM.
Ethash is intended to be ASIC resistant. That, coupled with the switch to PoS, which will kill mining altogether, doesn’t make investment in ASIC development look very favorable economically. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen, but it’s not that likely.
1. You are a bit late to the party. If you don’t have any rig at the moment, you should expect a learning curve. It won’t run from the start. You will have problems with drivers, hardware, mining software and so on. Maybe don’t start that big.
Mining is also the mechanism used to introduce Bitcoins into the system: Miners are paid any transaction fees as well as a “subsidy” of newly created coins. This both serves the purpose of disseminating new coins in a decentralized manner as well as motivating people to provide security for the system.
had a quick question on setting up geth – I’ve gotten to step 7 and while syncing it keeps generating the same few lines of text (“imported new block receipts, imported new block headers”, etc.) should this be expected? how long does this usually take to complete?
The most important part of a mining rig is the video cards. Currently the most effective cards are the GeForce 1070 and AMD RX 470/480/570/580. One of the newest and most powerful GPUs for mining is the AMD Vega 64 8GB which can reach 46MH/s.

I would like to start Ether, but my GPU isn’t the greatest and I don’t really want to spend the money on a dedicated rig. Is mining from my CPU (in a Linux environment) still worth the Ether? Or will I not be able to keep up?
My top choice is currently the Asus B250 Mining Expert board. It’s literally made for mining, with support for up to 19 (!) GPUs and 3 power supplies right out of the box. Even if you don’t intend to initially run more than a few GPUs, the included mining-centric diagnostic features and ability to expand later probably make the price premium over less-robust boards worth it.
