The miner seems great so far. On my R9 390 at 1150MHz and -dcri 35 it makes 31.5Mh eth + 550Mh dcr. The power usage seems a little bit higher, I had to increase fan from 45 to 50% to keep the gpu at 70°C.

Quite the opposite I’d think. Gamers purchasing high end cards wouldn’t want them to be hamstrung by a lack of VRAM to play at higher resolutions, whereas I don’t think most mining algorithms would be significantly affected. The only concern would be Eth DAG size reaching 3.5 GB, but it’s entirely possible it’ll go PoS and end eth mining before then anyway. And regardless, you can always mine a different coin.
Hello Peter, I was wondering if you know ethOS well enough to possibly help me getting my Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 480 4G to get higher in hash rate? Okay so I have read about ethereum’s asic resistance… it’s designed to be profitable with GPU’s and they dont want asics to “destroy” that like it happened with bitcoin and scrypt miners. But I don’t understand why it wouldn’t be profitable? I understand that the Ethash algorithm needs lots of memory and that’S not cheap. But why hasn’t a company just produced them in bulk for a lower price and made it profitable ?!
you can buy a gtx 1070 used for the same price u can buy a used rx 480. the 1070 is better in everything, also in mining? is it worth for running the pc 14h with an 1070 on the limit? i hope amd bring this dumb mining cards asap on the market that all normal dudes can buy the nice midclass gpu’s for gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaims!!!!!!!!! i still can remember a time where the msi gaming x 8gb was available for 249 bucks and some other cards for 220. i havent see this shit comming, if so… i better bought some of this little suckers and make +100 bucks per card… i would call it “bitcoin-mining-gpu-mining” damn!
So basically, an ASIC should not have any benefit at all because it’s just general computation. And to top it off, contracts can be released that are specifically ASIC-hard so there would be an active disincentive to using ASICs. Though I’m not sure if that has ever been done or not in the wild.
