Currently, Ethereum uses the Proof of work (PoW) system- this has been the arm supporting blockchain technologies like bitcoin and Ethereum. Proof-of-work refers to the solving of complex equations, which is a basic requirement for a miner to clear for their block to be added to the blockchain. This system has been picked apart for the environmental damage and electric cost it generates. However, through the use of the Dagger Hashimoto algorithm, Ethereum created a way that permits simple home computers to mine efficiently with little expenditure necessary.
During the warranty period, we will undertake to repair, or based on our sole discretion, to replace a defective product by an identical or similar (e.g. newer) version of the product, unless the defect was the result of Warranty limitations. The repair of the product is free of charge for the parts, components and labor necessary in order to perform the repair and restore the product’s proper operating condition, provided the unit is returned otherwise undamaged and shipping prepaid.
It is possible to mine Ethereum, using online services such as AWS, or DigitalOcean. However, no-one has managed to make this real-time profitable, and you should only take this root if you don’t wish to build your own rig and want to speculate on the pricing.
Step 7: You need to tell your Geth Program to start communicating with the rest of the Ethereum network. You do this by typing in “geth –rpc” – this should look like “C:\>geth –rpc” (on the latest version you should try: geth –rpc –fast –cache=1024) Press enter and the screen should start downloading the blockchain for Ethereum – at this point you are synchronising with the rest of the Ethereum network. This can take a while depending on your internet speed and the current size of the blockchain, anywhere between 20 min and multiple hours. Sometimes your firewall can block this process – just click allow access. Keep this cmd open, you will need this to run in the background in order to be able to mine. Also make sure you start mining only after your blockchain is synchronised, not before. Due to The DAO hard fork you will have to specify if you want to mine on the hard fork chain or on the chain without the hard fork. To mine Ethereum (ETH) use geth –rpc –support-dao-fork in order to mine Ethereum Classic (ETC) use: geth –rpc –oppose-dao-fork
It’s definitely possible to push efficiency even further. For example, you can fight for lower voltages, reducing power consumption at a given clock rate. But your success rate is going to be situational, and largely dependent on luck.
Ameer Rosic uses ‘if this than that’ logic to explain smart contracts. If we create a code online on the blockchain, and someone puts money into the contract, the next action will be executed. This may be a digital contract being sent to somebody’s email, for example. This trigger may execute something else, so on and so on.
Hashflare.io ist mittlerweile auch ein Urgestein der Cloud Mining Anbieter. Seit über drei Jahren bietet der Ableger eines Mining Equipment-Anbieters Cloud Mining Verträge an. Reports suggest that mass production of the chips began in January 2018, while Samsung are said to developing GPU mining chips which will be focused on altcoin mining algorithms. This could be a boon for Ethereum miners in particular, however further announcements will be needed to provide clarity there.
Solo mining is when you mine by yourself. The advantage of this is that anything you find is completely yours to keep. Unfortunately, if you only have a few miners it might take a very long amount of time to find “gold.” Furthermore, the frequency of finding gold can also vary extensively. You may have a week where you hit gold thrice, but then nothing for a whole month. Clearly, if you have a lot of miners (GPUs), then the outcome will be more stable, but below 1GH/s mining rate, Solo mining is not advisable if you want a stable return. If you’re not worried about shifts in when you find Eth, then Solo mining is a good option above 100Mh/s as you do not need to pay fees to anyone.
Always, always make sure you have a system in place for monitoring your fans and temperature, and you can check on these remotely. If you’re using Genoil, then the system will try and correct itself, and if you’re using ethOS, it will shut down a GPU if there is an overheat issue. However, not all miners are created equal, and if you’re not careful, you could burn your house down. This is one of the reasons why it’s so important to continuously monitor your rig and ensure that it runs stable within the first 24 hours. Also, bare in mind the heat fluctuations during summer and winter months as those few degrees difference can have a huge impact.
The same thing applies to Ethereum. The only way to utilize Ethereum is with the product from mining. However, mining Ethereum means more than increasing the volume of Ether in circulation. It is also necessary for securing the Ethereum network as it creates, verifies, publishes, and propagates blocks in the blockchain.
Genoil is a continually developing and very optimized miner for Ethereum. It runs smoothly, and you can get up and running with it very quickly. Personally, I’ve had a few issues with DAG generation, but a few tweaks quickly solved this. If you’re only planning on mining Ethereum, then Ethminer by Genoil is a strong contender.
Yes @allr1, sounds like something isn’t working. Does your alephzero show any peer coneections (at the bottom right of your window). Any strange messages in your terminal when you click “connect” and/or “mine”? Is the “mine” button slightly darkened? Here’s what my client looks like when things are apparently working:
IMPORTANT – be very careful what bios you are going to flash on what GPU, I would recommend you to never have different card types plugged in when you are going to flash, so you don’t flash by accident a wrong bios to a wrong card (even if this is almost impossible, because if you use the AtiFlash properly (as explained in this guide) it should give you a warning that you can’t flash the specific bios, because it’s a different type than your original card)
Dear JR, I’m experiencing a problem that showed up today, after an unwanted windows update (that I was stopping for about 3 weeks), my mining rig slowed down a 35% in hash rate. I have windows 10. Are you or anyone else you know having the same problem ?
Many popular opinion doubts about the value of Bitcoin or Ethereum. The computational power in the form of electricity consumption is the value of the coin. Currently, generating 1 Bitcoin will cost approximately $1000 USD electricity, where the intrinsic value of Bitcoin is stored. While you are receiving the printed $100 USD bill, that bill has no intrinsic value other than a piece of paper promise. The $100 bill does not have any backing stored to retain it’s value (no equivalent gold value is stored along with USD anymore). But the Bitcoin or Ethereum has the value stored by the difficulty of their generation.
Since it is now evidently impossible to use your computer as one of the best Bitcoin mining hardware, a specialized hardware known as ASIC miner can assist. The ASICs, an abbreviation for the Application Specific Integrated Circuits, are what surpassed the graphics cards. ASICs are the best Bitcoin mining hardware that any serious Bitcoin miner should look for. This is a special chip that is mainly designed for the purposes of mining Ethereum, Litecoin, Bitcoins, and because of that, it can provide up to a hundred times better hashing power as well as reduced consumption rates of energy.
All transactions in Ethereum (and other cryptocurrencies) are encapsulated within discrete blocks. These blocks are comparable to the batches of transactions which banks send to each other, except in Ethereum they occur every 15 seconds (on average). Blocks are identified by their “height,” starting from 0 and incrementing sequentially until the current block.
This card generally retails in the $800 range, but mining demand has driven its price to over $1,000 in some locations. If you’re lucky enough to get free power, then this card could be a great choice.
ZCash uses Equihash as an hashing algorithm, which is an asymmetric memory-hard PoW algorithm based on the generalized birthday problem. It relies on high RAM requirements to bottleneck the generation of proofs and making ASIC development unfeasible, much like Ethereum.
Nvidia has great cards for gamers, but the mining community runs on AMD. For several reasons. “Historically”, Bitcoin mining chose in between Nvidia and AMD : the latter seemed to have a far better integer computation performance, which is typically what cryptography is about – integers – so it does make a difference for cryptocurrencies. Note that AMD also gives a good floating-point performance. While Nvidia dominates the high-end market with the fastest performance in absolute terms, AMD is said to reach the best mining performance per watt.
A proxy was created to fix it, so official Ethereum miner is locally connected to the proxy by HTTP protocol, for local network delays due to HTTP protocol are small. Proxy is connected to the pool via Stratum protocol so it has small delays too. Currently most pools support Stratum and you have to use HTTP-to-Stratum proxy to make official miner work with pools properly. Of course you can try to connect official miner to a pool directly via HTTP but you will lose 10-20% shares because of a short block time in Ethereum.
After that, you should see a list of projects on the right hand side. Find ‘ethminer’, right click on the name, and select Build. This will build the project from source. You’re going to see hundreds of warnings pile up in the warnings box, but it should finish with “Build project succeeded”, and it should have zero errors. If it doesn’t say succeeded, and it has errors, something is wrong.
Kuhne addressed the issue by stating: “We have heard a lot of feedback from the community, so this proposal will be replaced with an updated and improved plan. But we will not completely rule out the possibility of a modest pre-mine to provide a basic level of funding for the project.”
Once you have your mining hardware up and running, you’ll need to install the software that will allow you to hold Ether and conduct transactions on the Ethereum network. In cryptocurrency lingo, this is called a “wallet.”
The good news is that getting started with Ethereum Mining is now easier than ever.  You do not need to download the full Ethereum blockchain, which is now over 20+ GB’s and still growing!  You also do not need to manage clunky command line miners with manual instructions.
had a quick question on setting up geth – I’ve gotten to step 7 and while syncing it keeps generating the same few lines of text (“imported new block receipts, imported new block headers”, etc.) should this be expected? how long does this usually take to complete?
This has been discussed in depth many times over. Etherium as it stands is ASIC proof due to the need of memory. The threat of changing to a Proof of Stake is also preventing anyone from developing an ASIC for Etherium.
In step 5, geth wasn’t able to connect to any nodes after upgrading to Windows 10. The reason is that Windows Time / the NTP service is disabled by default in Windows 10. Open Services from your start menu, find Windows Time in the list, start the service and set setup to Automatic.
I would recommend EWBF miner for Zcash, but Claymore dual mining is just as good. Just in case anyone doesn’t know you can dual mine any coin you want, your not limited to just ETH and Decred or ETH and SIA. Just need to read the “Read Me” Text doc in your folder. I made a short explanation video, mind you I am not a top end Content creator… but should help..

  1. We could have talked about mining for days, but it really depends on what hardware you get and how you configure all your software. The AMD Radeon RX 580 and Radeon RX 480 are the cards to get right now, but it’s tough to find them. You can build up a rig like this for $2,500 or less and make an extra $1,000 a month at the current rates. We highly suggest looking at Ethereum profit calculators and factor in the build cost and electricity to see if mining is right for you!
i got 1 out of the 5 GPUs to mine… attempting to start another ethminer instance specifying next card crashes that specific instance (while the first one keeps hashing away)… so no dice with getting all 5 running on win10
