Your mining rig will receive “works” from the cryptocurrency’s peer-to-peer network. These works are new transactions to be verified and added to the blockchain : they are divided in “blocks”. Your rig will calculate hash functions for a block. You are said to have successfuly mined a block if you have found a solution to the cryptographic problem associated with. It’s very hard to solve, so enumerating and verifying is the only way to achieve mining. The variable called difficulty level (self-explanatory) is an ever-increasing constraint at the scale of the network. Then the block is put at the end of the blockchain and you earn a reward (coins), made of static and transaction fees. For this kind of process, you need to run a tremendous number of simple operations in parallel. To be more accurate, this is not exactly the process your mining rig will run : this is a short description of the solo mining process, while you might go pool-mining (cf Section III).
My recollection of how Bitcoin turned out indicates that most of those people will not make money. That, in fact, the simple rules of how markets work mean that most cannot make money, on several counts:
-cclock   set target GPU core clock speed, in MHz. If not specified or zero, miner will not change current clock speed. You can also specify values for every card, for example “-cclock 1000,1050,1100,0”.
Finally, and this is important, if you look at our linear (but steadily decreasing year on year) inflation mechanism you’ll find that we are miner friendly, as miners eventually own the majority of coins, diluting everyone else. Demonstration:
Disclosure: Mining metrics are calculated based on a network hash rate of 232,030 GH/s and using a ETH – USD exchange rate of 1 ETH = $ 723.40. These figures vary based on the total network hash rate and on the ETH to USD conversion rate. Block reward is fixed at 3 ETH and future block reward reductions are not taken into account. The average block time used in the calculation is 15 seconds. The electricity price used in generating these metrics is $ 0.12 per kWh. Network rate varies over time, this is just an estimation based on current values.

I would also recommend you buy an SSD as it is a just little bit expensive than HDD. So, you don’t have to buy any 240 GB SSD or; higher 120GB is enough. The only things that will be going on the SSD will be OS, Drivers & mining software.
Before we go changing any values, if you haven’t run your miner at stock settings already for a few minutes to get a decent idea of its baseline performance, now is a good time to do that. Look for output along the lines of “ETH: GPU0 XX.XXX Mh/s” while Claymore’s miner is running. There will be some variance from line to line, but that XX.XXX number is the hash rate for that individual GPU. When you have a good idea of your average hash rate, close the miner—it’s time to start making some changes!
You might also want to consider installing Linux on your mining system — one of the lightweight distributions like Lubuntu or Xubuntu is a good option, although there are also Linux distros made specifically for mining. While it’s possible to mine with a Windows PC, it’s a little bit easier with Linux. Currently, you can’t mine Ethereum from a Mac.

I can understand you not wanting a ton of scrypt coin mining rigs turned to Ethereum right away, but also consider that a big reason Scrypt took off was it gave former Bitcoin miners a new platform for their hardware after ASIC made GPU mining basically impossible. The same thing could be happening to scrypt soon, with a number of ASIC miners having been announced now.
Geth needs to link up with the network before anything becomes fully operational. Type in ‘geth —rpc’ in the terminal and then press enter (you should be used to this by now), this action starts the download of Ethereum’s blockchain and synchronizing with the global network. This process is time intensive and is dependent on how large the blockchain is currently and the speed of your internet connection. Make sure you wait until the completion of this process before mining.
I hope this guide was easy enough for everyone to follow. Now, anyone has the ability to figure out how to mine Ethereum. While it might seem complicated at first, with a guide like this, no way will you be steered in the wrong direction! So, what are you doing? Try these 10 simple steps out, and start mining some Ethereum!
ZCash is an anonymous cryptocurrency that uses zk-snarks to ensure that all the information regarding user transactions is safely encrypted, while still verifiable by miners that can ensure no double-spending has taken place using zero knowledge proofs.
There are many factors involved in joining a mining pool. Each pool might not be around forever, and the computational power of each pool is constantly changing, so there are a number of factors that go into deciding which to join.
Note : one may say “sounds weird to me, why hashing etc ?” Well, this is the Proof-of-Work paradigm, which solves the issue of “consensus”. For example, Zcash’s algorithm was introduced in a paper called Asymmetric Proof-of-Work Based on the Generalized Birthday Problem.
While Linux offers some significant advantages when it comes to GPU mining, Windows does have one potentially important edge: undervolting your GPUs currently requires quite a bit less effort under Windows. If you want your mining rig to run at its maximum efficiency, you’ll want to keep power consumption to a minimum, and with Linux that generally requires flashing a custom BIOS to each GPU—whereas in Windows you can usually accomplish this at the driver level with a simple software setting.
Other recommandations : 8 Go RAM (better when compiling Zcash’s source on Ubuntu, for example). Of course, enough space on the HDD to run an OS, the drivers, the miner, etc. If you’re not mining with a pool (see section III), you’ll have to download and sync the entire blockchain of the cryptocurrency, which might get very big : Ethereum’s blockchain reached 30 Go in…one year. Beware.
Hey everyone! I’ve recently gotten back into the mining scene, and I’ve decided to mine Ethereum (or ETH). I’ve been mining Monero lately (which I might also set up a guide for at a later date) and has proven to be somewhat profitable. However, at this moment in time ETH is the most profitable coin to mine, whether it be to convert into Bitcoin (BTC) or into a fiat currency. Even though I have years of experience of mining under my belt, it was a hassle (to say the least!) on how to mine ETH. Why not put up an idiot-proof guide on Steemit so everyone can see how easy it can be to mine ETH? Follow these instructions coming up next, and you’ll be mining ETH in a half an hour or less.

Mining is permitted by the cryptocurrency software itself. If you go solo mining, you can start mining with the software that is running your node. But it stops here. What about pool mining ? What about dedicated miners for GPUs ? Some great people have not only implemented mining algorithms but have also permitted pool mining and hash optimizations ! They’ve made their softwares available on the Internet : some are open-source and you’ll need to compile the source code, others are closed-source and you can download their binaries only. The choice of the miner is significant in terms of performance and thus of ROI. Try the different mining softwares yourself : don’t care about the hashrates read in forums. Actually, future miners often forget that a mining software comes with parameters that may have effects on mining performance.
    1. You published this article on January 19,2017 and you talk about RX 480, but you recommend a driver that is not for this type of video card. I know that Claymore recommends it, but I think it was long time ago, when he wrote his program.
