Looking at the RX 470, we can do some quick math ($175 / (211 GB/s) ) to see that it costs $0.82 per GB/s.  Compared to a single GDDR5 chip (e.g. Micron EDW4032BABG), which costs $6.83 and has a bandwidth of 24 GB/s, we can do better at $0.28 per GB/s.  So, if we can build custom chip (either ASIC or FPGA) than can interface with 9 GDDR5 chips, we’ll have a memory bandwidth of 216 GB/s at a price of $61.47.  This still isn’t a finished mining product, since we need a FPGA or ASIC memory controller, circuit board, & support electronics.  If the shipped final assembly (adding additional parts, processes, testing, & logistics) costs less than the RX 470 (only $175), then the custom board will beat the GPU based card.  That is, until a faster, more efficient, cheaper graphics card comes to market.  For instance HBM graphics cards cards are already available.  But, if you find low cost, off-the-shelf, FPGA or ASIC chips with 5-10 DDR or HBM memory controllers, or your company is experienced in building custom high memory bandwidth ASIC solutions, you may be able to beat out off-the-shelf hardware.  But, if in this situation, you should probably change your business model and build graphics cards instead, since that’s already a huge market.
For the 12/13 GPU mining rigs, the best motherboard to use is a ASRock H110 Pro BTC (Windows can only support 12 AMD GPU’s at the same time, you can combine 12 AMD + 6 Nvidia GPU’s but it’s not worth it, there are some 19+ Motherboards, but from personal experience you will have problems with them, so better stick to 6 or 12 GPU Mining Rigs)
SMART PLUG – If the rig is frozen and cannot be accessed with remote desktop, then we need to restart it. I use smart plugs for that. You can monitor your power draw and restart your rigs with it (by switching power off and back on)

I reckon just try running Claymore and see what it says. I’m not up to date on Ethereum mining but I heard that the ETH blockchain has gotten too big to sync normally. I don’t know how miners are handling that but presumably some kind of pruning or other solution is used.
AMD cards are likely the best choice for the budget-conscious. However, the top-end Nvidia cards outperform them in terms of power efficiency. Carefully weigh your options, and keep in mind your budget and power costs.
The Claymore miner software source code is encrypted (if someone would have the source code he could make his own miner and would be much easier to remove the developer fee. Dazu hat man sich noch 1 Jahr lang drum kümmern müssen. Jeder der vor nem Jahr ganz einfach nur die Coins gekauft und liegen lassen hat ist heute dick im Plus und das wird in einem Jahr auch wieder so sein. Immer mit Risiko natürlich. Selbst wenn der Kurs mal abstürzen sollte, cool bleiben. Nichts machen. Bis jetzt hat er sich immer wieder erhohlt. Wer versucht zu traden verliert normalerweise. Den Markt schlagen ist verdammt schwer. Das wird so lange weitergehen bis Crypto auch bei Tante Erna angekommen ist. Dazwischen werden auch einige Coins wertlos werden, aber die die sich durchsetzen werfen Gewinne ab, da hat ein Fonds noch nie was von gehört. BTC als Mutter aller Coins steht da recht solide da. About a week ago I was hunting for a few Radeon cards for a project, specifically a second Nitro+ RX 570 for a crossfire comparison, needless to say I couldn’t find one and gave up.  A friend of mine said he was looking for a second RX 480 for his setup and that he couldn’t find one outside of crazy high prices, chalked that up to EOL on the RX 480s and told him to snag a similar RX 580.  He couldn’t find one of those either.  Thinking he just didn’t know how to search, since he’s not very computer savvy, I decided to help out.  That’s when things got interestingly and eerily similar to searching for a Radeon card in late 2013 – early 2014 back when I was deep into Litecoin and Feathercoin mining.  Then I came across Ethereum and everything became clear.  While I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on Ethereum I am no stranger to the world of crypto currencies. Having spent months on end tweaking GPU bat files for LTC and FTC while setting up ASIC miners for BTC, I decided to jump in on this one to see what the craze was all about!

  1. Repeat step 4 in a new command terminal (change directory command). To open a new command terminal, right-click on the previously active terminal icon found in the taskbar and then click on the terminal from the menu.
    @philakone I just picked up a couple ASUS STRIX Radeon R7 370 Overclocked 4 GB cards to install in a new rig. Care to share the settings you used for your R7 370’s or point to the thread? Much appreciated !!
