From mining to Al, GPU is very good at complex computations, no matter the type. It can mine any type of coin. as well as get converted to Al machine or something else if mining is no longer profitable.
There is a fourth possibility; which is that I missed the AMD driver update which fixed the speed problems for RX cards. I will do some more research and update the article. Thanks for pointing out the error though.
If you’re thinking about getting into Ethereum mining, you’ve come to the right place.  Finding the best GPU for mining Ethereum can be tough since having high gaming benchmarks and a high price tag doesn’t necessarily mean the graphics card is the best when it comes mining.
There’s a fine balance to be achieved between centralization, security, ‘fair’ distribution, rewarding investors, early adopters, miners, etc. Nothing is yet set in stone and we have several economists building models ahead of our fundraiser announcement.
Putting it simply, your mining rig needs to solve a mathematical algorithm to mine Ethereum. The mining difficulty of the network is a measurement of how difficult this algorithm is to solve. The higher the difficulty, the less Ethereum you receive for each unit of energy the GPU on your mining rig expends. As more miners join the network, this difficulty increases.
The Monero team is also developing Smart Mining. “Smart Mining detects your CPU usage, and if your CPU is idle and you aren’t on battery power, it will begin mining. As soon you switch to battery power or your CPU activity picks up it will pause mining until it sees it is safe to start again.” This would allow for anyone with a computer to become a miner. The more miners there are, the greater
Just seemed inappropriate is all. But it is trendy as all get out. i know Tom has to be unbiased so even if the miners have single-handedly ruined pricing, put most GFX cards out of reach of many users and basically just bleeped things up Tom’s can’t get personal. They are earning money. Putting food in their kid’s tummies and all that. Who wouldn’t like a little extra on the side. My 1080 Ti was purchased at($10 less) than MSRP back in January.

And another factor I read is that ethereum will switch to PoS “soon”. And once they do that switch, an asics device specifically for ethereum would be unusable. I don’t really understand the technical side of PoS and why that’s the case, but let’s just say this is true. How do we know when exactly ethereum will be switching to PoS? I have gotten the feeling that in the mining world, every announcement is always late. almost nobody meets their deadlines. I have read some forum posts of people saying they wanted to switch until the end of 2016, others say it may take another 3-4 years. Why so vague?
I know Panda is packaged GPU’s but I’m not sure OP is aware enough of ethash’s reliance on commodity memory architecture and how that precludes ‘ASIC’ (Application Specific Integrated Circuit, rather than ‘black box with fans’) from being developed. So I didn’t want to get too technical.
Very rare it’s possible that you will get better results with the Beta Blockchain Driver , but that driver only supports 8 AMD GPU’s and please try first the Adrenaline edition (In the Blockchain driver you will not need to change GPU’s to Compute mode, they are there on default).
Remember that every node in the network holds a copy of the transaction and smart contract history of the network, in addition to keeping track of the current ‘state’. Every time a user performs some action, all of the nodes on the network need to come to agreement that this change took place.
Honestly its super weird how this issue was resolved. Basically I just rebooted several times and then it started working…. I really don’t get this stuff, I have 2 degrees in computer science and an A+ cert and still don’t understand it lol
