Awesome tutorial, very clear and useful …. I have only one question…. If I join nanoppol with a test rig and then, a couple of weeks later I change my hardware for some more enhanced and proper replacing my entire system…. Will I have any trouble or is this transparent to nanoppol? Also, is geth a better option for creating at wallet than myetherwallet for example ???
ASICs are custom built for a single hash algorithm. Therefore, you would need to buy different ASICs for each coin that you wanted to mine. Currently, there are several companies, such as Bitmain and Canaan, that design ASICs. Due to their custom nature and niche application, a powerful ASIC isn’t cheap. For high-end hash power, a single ASIC could run you $3000.
On the other hand, no one knows what will happen with Ethereum prices. At the time of writing, 1 Bitcoin was worth more than $4,000. If the price for Ethereum were to climb that high, that would definitely change all the profitability calculations. In that situation, if you had even just a few Ether in your wallet, you might suddenly find yourself in possession of a windfall.
Geth is the underlying code for the Mist wallet and is the core service for syncing the Ethereum blockchain. Unfortunately, it is a command line service, which can make it hard and annoying to use. http://www.etherwall.com/Etherwall adds a GUI front-end to it, making it easier to use.
Ethereum Mining can be done in the comfort of your home. It requires script writing and some knowledge of the command prompt. It is quite easy and exciting once the process is broken down into manageable steps.
Check out the many great projects* already being built on Ethereum. And since you’ll be among the first developers in the world that are able to program decentralized applications, some of them might need your help.
You can also specify negative values if you don’t want to restart miner due to pool connection issues; for example, “-minspeed -50” will restart miner only if it cannot reach 50Mh/s at good pool connection.
AM200 Ethereum Miner delivers 230Mh/s at 1350W. It is one of the best Ethereum Mining equipment available on the market. ASIC Miner Market provides a web-based management of the miner for ease of use.  You can also mine Ethereum through a cloud mining contract with Hashflare or Genesis Mining.
On the Green selection you can see the “Memory Type”. In this example it’s Elpida. If you bought your GPU’s all at once, and they are the same card type and if you see  that they all have the same Memory Type, that means that they all CAN USE THE SAME BIOS. Exporting GPU BIOS can be done with clicking on the Red circle as displayed in the picture above, under the “BIOS Version”. Now you have your original bios exported, make a backup before going to the next step.
We want to have the latest NVIDIA Drivers installed, so go to NVIDIA driver website, and download the latest version for your GPU’s. After you downloaded and installed the driver, shut down your PC and connect all the other GPU’s. Now after you turn the PC back on wait about 10 minutes for the drivers to be automatically installed on the GPU’s. Don’t do anything in the meantime, you can check if all your GPU’s are installed properly if you see them in Device Manager under Display Adapters.
@Ursium I am a “hobbyist” miner. I have enjoyed cobbling together mining rigs with spare parts and am more than happy if i just break even. Right now, you are right, the “altcoin” markets are just pump and dump avenues. I do GPU mining, but have friends that do CPU mining (there still are CPU only coins being mined out there).
With Pool mining, many miners join forces to try and find the coin. The found coins are then equally distributed between the miners, though with some pools the ratios can vary on a few factors. However, do need to pay a small fee (usually less than 1%) to the pool operator for maintaining the service. The upside is that you’ll have consistent payout and thereby make money related calculations more accurate.
Again, you’ll need to do some research. Some of the miners support only particular GPUs, CPUs, motherboards or operating systems. You’ll need to double-check that the miner you select supports your setup.
@jstefanop Yes, I understood that part And it is indeed a slick improvement to the current implementation. I was asking @work about the ASIC “on the fly” DAG calculation in the kernel inner loop that I *think* he was putting forward as an ASIC alternative to doing random memory accesses to fetch the DAG bits from the whole DAG stored in GPU memory. Sorry for the long sentence.
You will need to Download Geth. This application will serve as a communication hub, linking you to the Ethereum platform while coordinating your setup (hardware and all) and reporting any new development that requires action on your part.
Note: In this tutorial, I assume that you have your graphics cards connected to a motherboard and have already installed/updated Windows 7 and the drivers for your graphics cards. Make sure to install CUDA if you are using NVIDIA cards.
Step 3: After you open and install the setup, you’ll be presented with the option to start smart mining. MinerGate automatically detects your equipment and chooses the most profitable cryptocurrency to mine according to your hardware, market price and difficulty. If you want to mine Ethereum, ignore this option and move straight to Miner.
